Solar Eclipse 2017!

The eclipse will be happening on August 21st incase someone somehow hasn't heard yet.

I hadn't seen a thread for this yet. Anyone plan on traveling to see it in totality? My dad and I plan on driving 1 1/2 hours to Beatric, NE to view the eclipse. A national monument there is apparently listed as a top ten place to view the eclipse. The local station here in Wichita says the weather in Nebraska isn't looking great, but the weather channel says mostly sunny, so who knows. My Birthday is the 20th, so this should be a great birthday gift.
 
I'm at 85%. I hope it's not cloudy. Since I'm in Florida who knows.

I live a little North of Nashville..... supposed to be the no.1 spot in the nation..... I guess all motel rooms around here have been booked for over 2 years..... they predict an infusion of SEVERAL thousand folks here ....... I'm just making sure I have plenty of food, gas and beer that weekend..... The crazy thing is....... it's supposed to start a little after noon.... be at total around 1;30..... then another hour and 20 minutes as it moves away..... Our company..... in their infinite wisdom has decided we will close at noon for the safety of our customers and employees....... !!!!!!!! JEEZ!!!!!! That's when the traffic is gonna be the worst!!!!!! They say maybe an extra 400,000 people ....... expect traffic to be at a standstill........ this is a relatively small community...... :rolleyes:

It's one of those in the moment inspiration kind of things. It's like when I am hiking some awesome mountain trail and encounter an amazing view. I'm speechless at the time, then it means nothing when its over. I'm still VERY excited to see this thing.

The price people are paying for the solar glasses are crazy! I bought four pairs for $1.99 each at Dillons. I could just bail on the viewing experience, sell my glasses and make like $50!

I'd never heard of the glasses until tye other day, going to try to build one of those pinhole projectors out of a shoebox or something see how that works out
 
Some of the hotels around the eclipse path are charging prices like it's a NASCAR weekend.I saw where a Holiday Express is charging $350 for 1 night.

They work well. The last time there was a partial eclipse close to Houston, my school let all of the students and faculty go out into the yard to watch. Most of us had the simple little box and it worked well.

And the eclipse in 2024 will come right over my house!
 
95% here... no way I'm dealing with the traffic a couple hundred miles south for the other 5%...

Turn you're house into a B&B for a few days and make a tidy sum.Hotels around here are really gouging people.
 
I'm gonna put on my cheap shades and look at the sun for a little bit tomorrow morning. **** yeah.
