Back on the topic for a moment, its interesting for me as a long time fan to see this 'Jr.fever' that has swept the WC circuit the last few years.Ive given it a little thought and here is my two cents worth.
1.Jr. DEFINITELY gets more attention, sponsorship money and 'hoopla' than his skill level deserves.Of course, the same thing applies to both Harvick and Mikey, though to a lesser degree. And all are because of the link to the Earnhardt name.
2.Jr.also gets more attention than he deserves because Sr.was killed.Pure sentimental reasons pull a lot of fans and money into the Earnhardt/Childress/Ty Norris camp. This is a very obvious fact that is skirted around by most fans. Not that there is really anything wrong in that.Except for the plain-english fact that NASCAR is keenly aware of this and certainly feeds the Elvis-like status of Ol'Sr.....
3.Jr. would not likely be in a race car at all if not for the name. And for those who think NASCAR wont milk Kerry for all he's worth are very naive.
4.Jr.-despite his handlers and NASCAR's best attempts-just aint no Davey Allison.Of course,Sr. was no Bobby either....
5.So,IMO,Jr. should, and eventually will be,regarded as the 'kin of great ones'...like Phil Parsons,Mike Waltrip,Kenny Wallace,Kyle Petty,Todd Bodine,etc...So ride the name Jr.,its really all youve got.
But Davey and Clifford....now THOSE were race car drivers!!
