Park their cars, share a beer and sing "Margaritaville" together.

Dega, the ultimate party. Between the campers, who love their partying and their racing and the short track across the road. It is one of the best times in real fan experience.
This should be an all out, balls to the wall, go for broke, wicked good race.

I've seen the Talladega infield party compared to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.... by someone here. I forget who... but they made it sound epic.

Heading into Talladega.

NASCAR Numbers:

2.8: Joey Logano's average finish in the first five races of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Logano has two victories and three fourth-place results and is already assured of advancing to the Chase's Eliminator Round by virtue of his victory Oct. 5 at Kansas Speedway.

15.4: Jimmie Johnson's average finish in the first five races of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, one reason why Johnson is tied for 11th in the standings with only one more race left in the Contender Round. Realistically, Johnson needs a win on Sunday at Talladega to keep his hopes for a record-tying seventh title alive.

3: The current number of consecutive top 10s Ryan Newman has posted in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. Newman has been the quiet man in the Chase, but he stands an excellent chance of advancing to the Eliminator Round, if he can only get past Talladega without a catastrophe.

162: The number of laps led by Kevin Harvick in Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte, bringing his season total to 1,815, far and away a career best. For once, Harvick and his team weren't subject to Murphy's Law and won the race the way they ran it-in dominating fashion.

5: The number of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories recorded by Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Talladega Superspeedway, the site of Sunday's final race in the Chase's Contender Round. Earnhardt hasn't won at Talladega since 2004, but he's looking to end his decade-long drought with a win that would propel the #88 team into the next round of the Chase

Cant say I dont like those numbers :) Especially that first one... the way it looks right now.. the 2014 cup goes through Joey

For those that may have missed this the first time.

With Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick already guaranteed spots in the next round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, five drivers control their own destiny entering the second-round finale Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway.

Eight of the 12 drivers advance to the third round following Talladega. Winners (as long as still in the Chase) automatically get one of those eight spots with the rest determined by points.

Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin don’t need to finish in a specific spot to make the second round, but if they don’t want help from other drivers, they do have a chance to do so with a certain finish.

— Busch (26 points ahead of ninth) would clinch a spot as long as he finishes 24th or better, 25th with leading a lap and 26th with leading the most laps.

— Newman (21 points ahead of ninth) clinches a spot with a finish of 19th or better, 20th and at least one lap led or 21st and most laps led.

— Edwards (20 points ahead of ninth) clinches a spot with a finish of 18th or better, 19th and at least one lap led or 20th and most laps led.

— Gordon (18 points ahead of ninth) clinches a spot with a finish of 16th or better, 17th with leading a lap and 18th if leading the most laps.

— Hamlin (17 points ahead of ninth) earns a spot with a finish of 15th or better, 16th and at least one lap led and 17th if leads the most laps.

Kasey Kahne (currently eighth, one point ahead of ninth), Matt Kenseth (ninth, one point behind Kahne), Brad Keselowski (19 points behind Kahne), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (26 points behind Kahne) and Jimmie Johnson (26 points behind Kahne) can clinch a spot with a win. They would need a high finish and help to advance otherwise.

Ties are broken by best finish in the round. If drivers have three identical finishes, then whoever got the best finish earliest in the round advances.

Talladega's infield is the only track that I've camped at that doesn't have a quiet time. If you want to sleep wear earplugs. It's a helluva ride though and every race fan should experience it.

EDIT: Every fan over 21 should experience it. :D

Talladega Boulevard: Location: Talladega Boulevard is a limited gated area and runs parallel to the backstretch located on the infield. Vehicles Allowed: MOTORHOMES, PULL-BEHINDS, TENTSPrice: $510 (includes space & 2 admissions) Atmosphere: No Quiet Time Enforced

Eastaboga Boulevard: Location: Eastaboga Boulevard is located close to Turn 2 and the South Tunnel on the infield. Vehicles Allowed: MOTORHOMES, PULL-BEHINDS, TENTSPrice: $510 (includes space & 2 admissions) Atmosphere: No Quiet Time Enforced

If the current guys 9-12 get eliminated thats 8 of the last 11 championships gone. Which would leave us with 7 drivers with no Cups, and Gordon. Of course the odds of that happening are zilch cause something crazy will happen sunday.

Sunday?

@dustinlong

Since 1999, more than 50% of the Cup race winners at Talladega started outside the top 10.

Don't leave early - 9 of the last 19 Cup races at Talladega have gone to a green-white-checkered finish.

hey! odds makers takin notice of the #10. They are not placing her at the bottom

I really think that Maalox should have been the sponsor for this race or at the very least, the official sponsor for the 'Big One'.

Maalox, supported by 10 out of 12 crew chiefs of the Talladega 500.

It's sad that Terry Labonte is going out like this. He should've retired on a high note in 2004 with Rusty. He had just finished 10th in the points in 2003 and even won the last Labor Day Southern 500.

Taking the retirement route a la Darrell Waltrip. Hard to call it quits, I guess.

I like those odds... honestly.. there were times I thought I would never see something like that... Im sure Im not the only one lol

Im starting to get excited about this weekend more and more. This is pretty much my favorite track.. and with all this drama and tension piling up it's getting more exciting. Plus not having to worry about my drivers finishing position just takes a load off my mind and I can enjoy the racing and championship implications without worrying.. I was worried about this round and especially this track since the format was unveiled. So glad Joey was able to take that Kansas victory.

Something not many have mentioned....is even with the pressure off to advance for drivers like jolo and uncle harv, there is the threat of injury at this unpredictable track. This makes me wonder...I know harv made a half joking comment about start and parking at dega. Wonder what goes through the drivers mind...

Not sure they're too worried about that.. of course its on their mind but I think more so they're probably thinking something like

No riding around the back of the pack waiting to dodge wrecks etc..

Well here.. this is what Joey says.

JUST HOW MUCH OF A RELIEF IS IT TO BE RACING AT TALLADEGA KNOWING YOU ARE ALREADY LOCKED INTO THE NEXT ROUND?

“I think everyone would like to be in the position that we are in and that Kevin (Harvick) is in and know that you don’t really have anything to worry about here other than going for the win. That was one of the first things that went through my mind and my crew’s mind when we crossed the line at Kansas was how it made this weekend’s race easier and less pressure packed. We know now that all we need to do is to go out there and win. We don’t have to worry about riding around and staying out of the wreck. We can get up there and go for the win. But we also want to get a good finish out of it. We have five straight top-five finishes to start the Chase, and we’d love to keep that streak going and make it six in a row at Talladega.”

I assume Harvick has pretty much the same train of thought.

Good points to consider, and you are likely correct.,Dammit you

My driver still has a chance at this whole Chase thing under this format that he otherwise wouldn't have had. I'm looking forward to this race more than usual because of that. Even if he weren't the story for me I'd still be waiting in anticipation for this race. Talladega has always been one of my favorites.

"... but it wouldn't be legitimate!.. I hate the chase!.. I hate NASCAR!.. I hate everything!" LOL :D

He has as good a shot as anyone at Dega for sure. Good luck this weekend. I'd rather see him get to the final four then the Gibbs twins.

Yeah, whatever. I've been on the I hate the Chase fight for 10 years now. The fight is over for me. It was 10 years wasted. It's here. It's been here for 10 years. I'm still here. Let's get this Talladega race started!
