Talladega - GEICO 500 - Pre Race Thread

Sunday 10-19-2014,
Date line: Talladega Super Speedway, Lincoln, Alabama.

Final lap, Matt Kenseth pushes Dale Jr to win, stands erupt and fans flatten catch fence rushing to hoist their hero driver. Al state police and national guard
Run for their lives.
Meanwhile, Matt hoists a cold one and grins as he keeps his no race win record intact and moves on to the next chase round.
France and company chringe at the thought of Matt and Newman making it to the final four at Homestead as the non race win duo. Yes those are tears
of anguish in Frances eyes.

Kenseth then uses his new found fame to get the mob to attack Keselowski.

Kenseth has to start at the rear of the field tomorrow so he must just as well use qualifying as a practice session.

I like Matt's idea of a duel for the plate tracks only. Everyone races and can actually participate for avout 10-20 laps.

I think that Kenseth was correct; a couple of 20 lap duels and avoid this foolishness.

Whine about the rules - but drivers behaving like idiots here. Namely this second group that just had to work together and all EASILY make the cut.

Kevin Harvick: "This qualifying format is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of."

Preaching to the choir, Harv!

I like the format, but it just does not work for plate tracks.

Harv cannot really say much, he's been a beast over one lap.

At the same time NASCAR =/= F1 or IndyCar.

Wow Ricky Stenhouse DNQ'd (as well as Allgaier and Sorenson). Stewart needed a past champions provisional.

The front of the pack is going to get very interesting at the drop of the green flag tomorrow.

Never got a lap in. He said he was going to run in the back most of the race anyways.
Dafuq

Thinking ahead, worried about his back if caught in a huge wreck?

A format that promotes winning is making drivers race for points?

This qualifying format is so stupid. Why were they all doing 60mph on a 2.66 mile track?!!!!

I'm certain that strategy is to stay out of trouble tomorrow. He came dangerously close to missing the race though. With Stewart getting the PCP, Gordon was supposedly one spot away from missing the race.

Gordon said he mistimed his attempt and didn't get the start/finish line in time to start a lap.

ROFL. That would have been epic.
