Talledega Pre Race Thread

With the Gen6 cars I'm not sure if starting in the back is no big deal or a deal breaker.

Pit selection in my opinion is the biggest deal but it's not as critical here and at Daytona as it is at the other tracks.

Yeah, it's based on the #12 car. For instance, Allgaier has only run a couple of races but the #51 car is 30th in Owner Points so he was locked in.
yeah allgaier has two race attempts..Jayski shows he has 31...not.. Hornish has only one, so Allgier gets in because he ran one more race than Hornish. Hornish has more owner points than Allgaier, so the race attempts is what they go by and if it is a tie they go with the higher owner points to determine who races.

Yeah, it's even more convoluted than the top 35 rule. Why they can't just have the fastest 43 cars race is beyond me. Who the hell cares if Junyer misses the race and his fans don't show up on race day?
 Nice try Andy but you're going to have to bring more than that.

Johali, time to get your wheather information somewhere else.

This place is worst than freaking Pocono.

True ......without it though I think the Chase becomes hohum, at least with it in the format you know things will be shaken up.

This is where a Road Course would come in handy.

Yeah, that was yesterdays, they didn't change it to 70% until this morning when it was raining, I check 4 of the best places and they usually have close to the same forecast, guess it's time to shine up the old crystal ball. :)

I'm sure a lot of the Cup drivers & crew members were watching the havoc filled truck race today, tomorrow we'll find out if they learned anything from it...

For those of you who think the tandem racing is any "safer" than pack racing, go watch the truck race. No matter what you do you cannot escape the big one.

They were only 'tandem' racing when they went "checkers or wreckers" at the finish, and would've collided no matter what. The two (or three?) wrecks before that happened in the back of the pack.

Skilled drivers showed (in 2010 and 2011) that tandem racing doesn't make RP pack racing any more dangerous.

Hearing word that someone died in the infield at the track today from carbon dioxide poisoning.

True story? That's outrageous.

Didn't a person died here when he got struck by lightning a few years back? If there ever was a sign, this is it. This track has some bad juju.

I just realized that it's the 2 home improvement chains at the top of the standings.

What a number of people were posting on Twitter. I'll look for something official.

This is a huge open area track... what did they do park a motorcycle in their camper & fall asleep? I'm no doctor but how would that happen in a giant open field?

Race Day in Talladega!

Back in the 90's or so there was a neat photo or it might have been a poster of the Earnhardt crew, and Chocolate was wearing a Big chain like the Junkyard dog used to wear. It fit him well..

Note re: how NASCAR will govern 100% Rule today at Talladega ->

I spoke to NASCAR VP/Comp Robin Pemberton, who said laying back is part of the strategy at plate races and IS ACCEPTABLE competitive practice. Pemberton also noted that that information was made adamantly clear at Chicago when the 100% Rule was first broached.

In short, teams ARE PERMITTED to hang back at Talladega today.

From Marty Smith.

The intro consists of Gretchen Wilson telling the world how much NASCAR fans love wrecks. Pitiful.

Last man standing today. My heart says Kurt. My other heart says Jr.
Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

That Ritchie Parker story is amazing every time they show it.
