Team Sponsor Shortages

This. Literally every Junior fan I know has already pledged their allegiance for Chase Elliott next year.
Not true, I know some who are going to Ryan Blaney and others have said Larson is their next #1 driver.

EDIT: Sorry after reading your post again I see just the Junior fans you know are going to the 24.

I don't get it, do Jr. fans just not like winning or something? :p

How do you know whether or not every Junior fan I know is rooting for Chase Elliott next year?

It kind of sounds like the primaries where someone drops out and there is a mad scramble for his/her delegates. Of course Dale Jr is like California, Texas, Florida and NY on steroids.

I don't know of any stick and ball owner whose primary motive in purchasing his/her team was because it represented a good investment with great income potential.

At one time I thought it would be good deal to have a major league stick n ball outfit in my city. But after watching teams fleece and blackmail taxpayers continuously over the years, I'm glad it didn't happen.
I have a list of criteria for where I decide to retire. On that list is 'No taxpayer-funded stadiums'.

I have three MLB teams within a 90 minute drive and don't go anymore....too expensive for tickets and parking. I enjoy minor league games like the Trenton Thunder (Yankees AA affiliate), where I can see future major leaguers (like Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge) play and get a GREAT seat for $11.

Yeah, but most still are. That's what makes it so much different. While the #1 motivation might still be the same (winning, prestige, winning, ego, and winning) you can't just ignore the fact that 1) most stick & ball teams do make millions and 2) most teams eventually sell for more than the original buying price. I'm not sure those same owners who might have been motivated by winning/ego/it's in their blood (like most NASCAR owners) would still get in the game if they knew that every year would likely be, at best, a break even, but more times than not likely a loser...and, when you wanted out, you'd get back pennies on the dollar of what you put in. So the question would be, just how motivated would NFL, NBA, MLB owners etc be by competition alone? We know guys like Penske, Hendrick, Roush, etc spend millions to compete. Would most stick and ball owners?

The ROI in a NASCAR race team is probably the worst of any major sport. The current owners of NASCAR race teams clearly got in for the genuine love of the sport.

they put in a minor league ball team years ago triple A I think they call it, and took out a perfectly fine dirt track..grrr that started it with me. Now years later they built an entirely new ball stadium downtown and did they put the track back? hail no, horse show parking..I like horses better than stick n ball but sure miss that dirt track at the fairgrounds.

That crosses a lot of places off the list. Publicly funded stadiums have never bothered me as they have many benefits to jurisdiction in which they play. Cue someone doing a cut and paste on the St. Louis Rams or another team while ignoring the whole. I am rolling my eyes already.

I have no problem with business decisions like those, as long as it isn't coming out of my pocket involuntarily.

Let it cross them off. It's easy when I'm not much of a sports fan in the first place. Most cities with more than one major sports team are already off my list because they're too big for my tastes anyway.

I agree and I think most owners of S&B franchises would identify as businessmen who own professional sports teams and race team owners would identify as race team owners with other interests.

bond issues every one stick n ball milking the taxpayer every time. The racing bunch went up north with their own money and started a track. Out of the city limits.

I built a camper van and was a snowbird for most of the winter, down on the Texas line and over to Arizona for a rubber tramp meet..Back for summer and fishing now. Retirement works for me. Just sold the van and I am going to build out a utility trailer for next years winter if all goes well.

I have lived in large cities and rural settings and have found benefits and drawbacks to both but I don't see myself moving to a city again.

Are you serious?

Very serious as many NFL owners are just frustrated GM's and consider the franchise a toy, a status symbol and a place to entertain people for their other ventures. Remember too that I said PRIMARY MOTIVE which is far different than only motive.
