Riggs qualified on the pole and led wire-to-wire as chaos ensued behind him during the course of the 90 lap, over three-hour event. A race that started with 23 Late Model Stocks and finished with just seven cars running at the end of the race which was shortened from the scheduled 125 laps due to the race’s 11 cautions and four red flags and an 11pm curfew.

The race was slowed by 11 cautions and four red flags, resulting in an average speed of 11.882 mph over the course of 90 laps. The race was halted twice due to track repairs and ended under caution when a late-race caution came out just prior to the track’s 11pm curfew.

The infield of Myrtle Beach Speedway looked like it had just been hit by a category two hurricane after a marathon wreckfest ensued in the Southeast Limited Late Model Series race on Saturday night.

The caution came out 23 times in the crash marred 100 lap, two-and-a-half hour race. Many of the cautions came in the final 50 laps, which included multiple aborted restarts. The cautions continuously interrupted a thrilling battle between Dylan Hall and Terry Evans. The race descended into chaos and anarchy in the final laps as, during a red flag, Evans’ teams came onto the track to refuel his car as he, and other drivers, were running out of fuel.

Cole Glasson scored the win in the Southeast Super Truck Series, his first win in the series and his second win of the weekend. Glasson had run in all three races but was one of the many victims of Saturday night’s man made disaster at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina.

Opening week of Speedweeks at Myrtle Beach was something of a horror movie at times last year when the track played host to a handful of controversial and bizarre races.

The races saw everything from disqualifications of drivers who were not eligible to compete to disqualifications contested by a sanctioning body to a race that felt more like a Final Destination movie – on top of technical problems with electronic scoring. And there wasn’t even a conclusion for many when they left the track. In short, it was the racing equivalent of a horror story.

It took 18 minutes to complete the 75th lap of the race, and that was only because race control mercifully decided to start counting caution laps up until the final five laps of the race. Already, headliners, such as Cole Glasson, Dan Moore, Jeremy Pelfrey, Haley Moody, Chris Burns and Ryan Glenski had fallen victim to American Horror Story: Myrtle Beach.

Overtime distance should be based on the length of the track, among other factors.

Bristol/Martinsville/Wilkesboro - 5 laps.
Richmond/Loudon/Phoenix - 4 laps.
Gateway/Dover + intermediate tracks - 3 laps.
Superspeedways - 2 laps, one attempt.
Road courses - 1 lap, one attempt.

As a production, NBC crushes FOX. They make the sport feel big time and their pre and post race coverage is really really good and actually worth watching. As someone that doesn't need a whole lot of info given to me during the race, that carries more weight for me these days.

Fox's commentary booth is better because of Mike Joy, compared to Rick Allen. But for me, Steve Letarte blows the Fox team out of the water when it comes to technical analysis. I'm a huge Larry McReynolds fan too, he's just not utilized to his fullest abilities. Plus, NBC has more pit reporters and relies more on them than Fox does. I've said this many times, I learned more about the new car from NBC's coverage from Nashville than I learned the entire season on Fox.

Plus, the energy of the NBC booth does keep your attention.
 
I really think you guys should try using the scanner app during the race. It's completely changed the way I take in a race now. Pretty much could care less what the guys are saying during the broadcast as long as they show video of the race. All the other info I need I'm pretty much getting through the scanner

Dave Burns is awesome. He has a pleasant voice and is well spoken. He is knowlegeable and does not run his mouth. His booth work for a couple of Xfinity races has been spot on.

The Red Sox did it last year on their regional broadcasts. It was only retired athletes and some were….not good.

It's basically his car, if not for the concussion he'd still be driving it.
Can't blame him for getting a bit emotional at the end, I thought he was much better in the booth than Bowyer.
 
I really have no problem with an announcer rooting for someone as long as it's not excessive, and I don't think Kurt was excessively rooting for 2311. What surprised me was how much I like Kurt in the booth as I did not like him as a driver.
 
Kurt Busch was a race long toyota commercial. I haven't seen any other guest announcer do that. It isn't done. He's some kind of substitue driver or paid 23xi cheerleader, who knows, but that is what manufacturers pay for in commercial time. They have had car owners announcing that have multi cars in the race and they don't spend the whole race telling the history of the organization. Maybe he was trying to keep his driving job open, hell if I know, but we don't need manufacturer reps in the booth.

Larry McReynolds really elevated the booth. Even Clint Bowyer was improved. I also loved the insight from Jamie McMurray and Kurt Busch from the studio.

Yesterday was Fox's best broadcast in a long time. I wonder if they decided to cater their coverage to die-hards because it was on FS1 and literally no casual viewers were tuning in with the LSU/Iowa game on.

If they did change their approach, they need to utilize that approach moving forward.

Much improved. Still not as good as NBC, but that was still a fine telecast.
 
Larry Mac was on top of things Sunday. His insight is sorely missed in the booth each week.

I'd have to disagree I actually think Steve does a little better job than Larry during a broadcast. Maybe Larry is just too removed from the box compared to Steve

I think Rick Allen is ok as a Nationwide / Truck broadcaster, but the Dale Jr / Steve Letarte / Jeff Burton booth without Rick Allen was decent last year for some reason. I thought Dale Jr did a pretty good job with play by play.

Steve Letarte is my favorite.

He gets a little verbose sometimes, but his analysis is spot on.

Fox should put Larry McReynolds and Jamie McMurray with Mike Joy and Kevin Harvick and put Clint Bowyer on pre-race with Chris Myers.

I wouldn't care if Chris Myers was never associated with a race broadcast again. So tired of his 'We kid because we care' crapola. If you know you have to justify what you just said, you know you were wrong to have said it.

I say this without exaggeration. My friendly believe in my heart that Rick Allen is the worst broadcast decision made in the entire history of this sport. I think he represents everything artificial and conflated about the current state of NASCAR. He calls races like it's a wrestling match. His voice in his enthusiasm is so obnoxiously fake and I think it's an embarrassment.

My wife genuinely does not take the races she watches with him (all of NBC for that matter) seriously. It's awful.

Got awful. Best wick would be great, McReynolds was absolutely fantastic on Sunday. Miss him a lot.

I also miss the old ESPN crew. Andy Petrie was another one who is fantastic

Letarte seldom knows how many laps are left on a fuel run, much less how many laps they have on their tires, or how many sets left. Larry Mac always knows.
 
Actually if you wanted to put a crew chief in the booth I think Todd Gordon would actually do better than Larry or Steve. What he breaks down on Sirius is impressive
