The Announcers Thread

Absolutely loved DW the racer and I’m sorry for those that didn’t get to seem as he was very, very good. I can’t comment on him as an announcer as a lot of times I have the broadcast on mute. None of the broadcasters add a lot to the the races for me.

I wished the powers to be would quit making them wear a suite and tie. A nice golf shirt would look good and be comfortable. I hate watching a person on a 100 degree day in a suit and tie.

It would be nice to incorporate the radio broadcast and the tv broadcast together minus the delay.
The radio version (PRN,MRN) of the race description is more desirable to me .

I am not sure what the delay time is, but would an easy solution be to just delay the race a few seconds using the DVR?

This is how they need to kick off a race, instead of a bunch of talking heads B.S. ing. The drivers are the stars of the show and that should always be remembered as #1 instead of reduced to a stat starter sheet interrupting their announcing no telling what at the start of the race. They have plenty of time to do this when the cars are lapping behind the pace car.

So i notice every time i watch the truck division they have michael waltrip as a guy in the broadcast booth. And i cant figure out why. All he ever says is "this is some fantastic racing we are watching right here" or "these athletes are so good at what they do" like we cant see for ourselves.

Then in the closing laps last night freesen (sp?) is running low on gas but does waltrip talk about that? Noooo he says something about "all it takes is one slip of a tire and chastain will close that gap" trying to build fake drama. He does these stupid comments every race bc he doesnt know what else to say.

They should let him do his clown show on pit road before the cup race and keep him there. He does not belong in the booth.

None of them in the booth were talking about Friesen running out of fuel. Probably because Friesen's crew chief Trip Bruce when he was interviewed said Friesen was fine on fuel.

They flat out blew the call,as soon as he went to the apron after running the high groove you knew he was in trouble.
Announcing isn’t Nascar's strong suit right now.

Kurt Busch was good in the Xfinity booth -- he actually made Alexander and M Waltrip an enjoyable listen, imho.

Shannon Spake is styled up nicely and just catty enough to keep me interested. And the Mac's look and sound like a couple.

This was one of the best NASCAR Races and Coverage combos for the year -- a complete surprise.

it would have been more entertaining if they would have taken kurts meds away from him, a few days before the broadcast.

I turned it on, heard a waltrip, and turned it off. It's shame they continue to use such polarizing individuals in the booth

On the podcast DW says having two drivers in the booth isn't the best combination, both think alike too much. Liked it better when they had the leader Joy (car owner) DW (driver) and Larry Mac(crew chiefs) coming at it from three different directions if they are going to have a three man booth.

I'm so confused, they literally said they'd be announcing a replacement this summer about a month ago.

I’m hoping for Harvick/Knaus once they retire and Gordon goes on to work more at HMS. Until then I’m not sure they need to stick a guy in there who’s only a seat warmer.

Still kinda wonder if/when Harvick retires and takes a job in the booth like so many on here are saying....if Fox redoes the whole booth entirely. Mike Joy isn’t getting younger, so you would think that’d they’d get a new play by play guy, with Harvick as the driving analyst and then a crew chief. DW was right in that you sort of need a crew chief with one driver if you had to pair it up

Mike Joy is more cringe worthy to listen to than DW most of the time IMO. He's made a lot of errors the last few years and sometimes I'm not even sure what he's looking at. Not sure I'd miss him at all.

I 'd enjoy seeing someone new there too, and not from the trucks or xfinity broadcasts. My luck is they'd hire Bob Costas

Gotta agree on that one. I like Joy and everything, but it's just the perfect time to refresh the booth. Bestwick imo.

TV Announcers are always going to be annoying because of the storylines, talking points, human-interest content they're forced to push to the audience during the race. It's almost a relief when they're blathering on -- that you hear "Caution!","Turn Three!" etc. forcing them to get back to the action with a relevant camera shot and race action reporting.

Good Radio Announcers can't be irrelevant or lazy because they have to recreate the action for the audience -- with words (no visuals) as it is happening.

Would love to see simultaneous 3 screen race coverage for Sonoma. Not 3 pictures on a screen, but 3 screen coordinated race coverage on Fox, FS1, FS2 concurrently.

Now I have the poor man's 2 screen -- TV screen with .com battle cam on computer.

Wash yur mouth out, boy. Ya hear me? Wash it out with soap!

Seriously, I'd miss Mike Joy a lot if he were to retire now. He is the master of weaving a tapestry of the race, keeping it on an even keel, tossing in interesting factoids, and doing it all with class. He is the best around, no one else is even close, not even Allen Bestwick. I'll gladly overlook a minor error or two.

Whatever my personal thoughts are on Darrell's broadcasting style and that stupid ass boogity crap, I know that Darrell poured his heart and soul into what he was doing, and he deserves recognition for his contributions to the sport for the last 45+ years. In an era where few drivers were media savvy, Darrell was a trail blazer, and his willingness to share his world with the fans and his tireless promotion of the sport should not be ignored. Thanks, Darrell, even though you annoy me at times, I will miss you and I hope you find a way to continue to share your stories with the racing world. :)

This is so cool...
