The cars are too loud

40 cars with the old style "turbo" mufflers but with 800HP would be plenty loud. We are talking about going from 130db to 95-100. 95-100 is pretty fracking loud. 130db is stupid.
So get ear plugs or a scanner. Thats why they are available at the track and vendors everywhere. Be the change you want to see.

For what its worth everyone that goes to a race comes out just fine. But did you die?

You laugh but that's pretty much what it came down to. Typing text messages on our phones and looking over each other's shoulders. Imagine trying to explain the lucky dog rule like that.
Perhaps take the travel time to the event to explain the rules to the race they are going to watch.

There you go.. a viable solution. Texting. OR, I have heard they make headphones you can share with a buddy and talk to each other through them.

We've got two sets of them. We spend a lot of time pushing the button and saying 'Huh'. Ours aren't quite the quality of Chad's but they are RE's.

When I saw my first on track race, I didn't care a thing about rules. It was the cars, the speed, the closeness, the sounds that drew me in like a moth to a porch light. Rules were something I learned on the internet.

That's not good. I hope you didn't pay Race Buddy prices. I see them at $399
Racing Electronics sell their package deals every December. I bought them over two separate seasons. I let someone borrow them for their NASCAR trip. They weren't quite the same when they were returned. I've yet to take them back to the trailer to be repaired.

You may be a redneck if loud=fast to you. Not directed toward you, just general opinion.

If they were mine :dual9mm:

I'm going to let that slide.

I think Mikey has lost his mind. View attachment 25158

"I think the cars are too loud," Waltrip said.......I think Mikey is too loud, Skoal said

I am pretty sure no one wants to hear an actual Toyota Camry go around the track. And paddle shifters would rustle the NASCAR fan base so hard.

It would be funny hearing that a driver cooked his engine cuz he missed a paddle.

My first race at Bristol, I left my ear plugs out when they dropped the green to start the race to see just how loud it would get. I've not experienced anything that has come close to that noise.

The noise is more like a loud screech above the sound of the engines, IMO.

Might I suggest to all having problems communicating during the race to take a notepad and a pair of pencils. You can then talk to each other through the written word. Better yet, take a small chalkboard. Wouldn't want them to have to throw a debris caution because of your discarded conversations. :D
or texts each other. problem solved.

I can't point to something AND explain it in text at the same time. By the time I'm done typing, whatever I wanted to explain has already changed.

Stupid question: does a quiet car necessarily have to be slow? Does a fast one have to be loud?

they can go 10 mph, I want them to be loud. never been to a quiet race, so I wouldn't know.

My buddy and I do hand signals. Flash numbers with your hands to indicate cars (this gets old fast when Truex or Junior is involved) and do the "reeling in a fish" motion to indicate closing in and other odd gestures. It may look funny but it works. Entertaining in itself, to say the least.

Yeah, my Dad and I have a similar set, but that doesn't work with newbies. If we're going to get people interested in the sport again, we're going to have to be able to communicate with them while watching it.

Of all the things that have been changed over the last several years, turning the engine volume down strikes me as one of the least objectionable, especially if it can be done with no impact on the racing itself.

No offense, but I'd be telling you to hush and let me watch the race.

I have Racing Radio head sets for my wife and I with the push to talk button on the head set. We talk to each other all during the race. Bought them 18 years ago and use them all the time at live Nascar races.
Next time you go to a race, rent a set and try it, pretty sweet.

they are going to lose horsepower if you restrict the exhaust.
