The New and Improved Allmendinger Thread

wtf are you talking about? where has anyone with inside knowledge said aj is a drug addict?

AJ has been labeled and the end result really doesn't matter. Aegis said AJ is an addict and it has to be true.

They said he is a addict?????????????????????????Starting to look like a Andy post.
Even if Smoke 14 really believes this (and I doubt that he does ) ,he is likely the only one on this forum who does . The problem is that outside this forum , the percentage of people who think that way is much , much higher . AJ should have come out and explained what it was that he took and why.

Damn straight. Randy Lajoie did just that when he failed his test. He didn't even bother with having the 'B' sample tested. He came on Sirius Speedway on SirusXM NASCAR Radio and stated to the listeners exactly what he had done. He moved right on to the RTR program and was reinstated shortly thereafter. The right move.

Randy knew he smoked a joint. Although AJ's hiding after that test hasn't given me much reason to believe he didn't 'take' drugs, I still give him the benifit of the doubt.

If I were subject to drug testing, I wouldn't even drink tap water when I travel.

Hospitals and drug companies spicing up the water supply.

The chances of him coming back next year are slim to none, no sponsor in this sponsor scarce climate of Nascar would dare take a chance on damaged goods like AJ. He has to face the fact that he may need to find a different career, either that or race in a different sanction that might let him in.

Reinstated as an owner, big difference...he doesn't drive anymore.

He wasn't an owner. He was a crew member at the time. True enough he doesn't drive anymore. Reinstated none the less.

My point had nothing to do with him being a driver anyhow. It was simply an example of someone going through the program and being reinstated. This has occurred over and over with the crewman ranks. Examples of drivers even being suspended are rare. A couple of examples of drivers busted and reinstated are Kevin Grubb and Shane Hmiel if you're looking specifically for that. Both making a comeback only to be busted again. In Kevin Grubbs case it ended up much worse.

I understand what you are saying, my IMO is that it is much harder for a Cup driver to make a comeback from substance abuse than an owner or crew member, especially with sponsors being so scarce. I still don't understand why AJ hasn't disclosed what he actually tested positive for and why. If it was something that was in a supplement, that can be much more forgiving than say a perscription drug. It makes me think that it was more serious of an infraction or he would of already released the info.

Team owner Roger Penske said he will meet with AJ Allmendinger this week to discuss how they move forward as an organization.

This is exactly what I am talking about. People I work with who do not follow racing have already condemned AJ. I doubt he did anything intentionally wrong. Heck, I still don't believe Mayfield could have had the levels of meth in him and not been dead.

My point is, the sponsors do not want to risk association with AJ with the publics perception of what he did.

You're absolutely right, on the other hand though A.J. hasn't done himself any favors through this not speaking out or combating some of what is being said. As I said in another post, while he is quiet everybody else is speculating and talking. Sponsors, manufacturers, team owners and drivers. I commend A.J. for entering the program and doing things the right way as far as that but we haven't heard from him yet and that leads me to beleive there's a little more to it.

Interesting comments from Shane Hmiel on AJ.

Shane Hmiel says he understands the confusion, loneliness and anger being felt by suspended NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger today, but insists there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“AJ is in a deep hole of sadness, embarrassment and emotional upheaval,” said Hmiel, who was suspended three times by NASCAR for failed substance abuse tests nearly a decade ago, before returning to racing and being paralyzed in a Sprint Car crash in October of 2010.

“When I failed my drug test, I knew (I was guilty). When they took my sample, I knew there was a good chance it wasn’t going to come back pretty. AJ says he hasn’t used drugs, so it’s got to be way worse for him. He was driving for “The Captain,” Roger Penske; one of the biggest, most successful car owners of all time, replacing a former Sprint Cup champion. I feel terrible for him. He’s a good racer, he’s won in everything he’s ever raced in, and he was getting close to a NASCAR win, if you ask me.

I'd love to read the evaluation report from the "expert" that AJ met with last week.

I can't believe that another week has gone by without a word from AJ . It's getting a little weird . (The silence ).I feel like there is another shoe going to drop.

He made a statement last week. What else can he really say at this point? They are now waiting on his evaluation report and further instruction from NASCAR. I just don't see what someone who doesn't have a drug problem is supposed to do to recover. How do you recover from something you never had?

AJ Allmendinger released from Penske Racing.

Penske Racing announced today that AJ Allmendinger has been released as driver of the No. 22 Dodge Charger in the NASCAR Cup Series. Allmendinger was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR last week for a positive drug test.

"Penske Racing fully supports NASCAR's substance abuse policy and we are disappointed with AJ's positive drug test results," said Roger Penske. "AJ is a terrific driver, a good person and it is very unfortunate that we have to separate at this time. We have invested greatly in AJ and we were confident in his success with our team. The decision to dismiss him is consistent with how we would treat any other Penske Racing team member under similar circumstances. As AJ begins NASCAR's ‘Road to Recovery' program, we wish him the best and look forward to seeing him compete again in NASCAR."

Sam Hornish Jr., will drive the No. 22 Dodge at Pocono this weekend and for the foreseeable future.

Penske Racing will evaluate its options for a driver of the No. 22 car for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.

Very very poor wording by the Penske PR staff. They have potentially painted themselves in a corner.

They would have been better off saying "While we still support AJ in he recovery from this incident, he was on a 1 year contract and Penske Racing doesn't see him as the future of the 22. Therefore we are releasing him today so he can focus on his recovery and rebuilding of his career."

What they just said was basically anyone who fails a drug test will be released, no ands, ifs, or buts. While I think it is highly unlikely they better hope Kesolowski doesn't fail any future drug tests.

I'm guessing he (Roger) knows all the answers to the qustions we have about the situation so I'll say he didn't have an option.

AJ's mouth piece said he was nanograms over the limit. NASCAR responded that it was substantially over. It looks like AJ's test results can't be explained away by a supplement, and Penske has their own in house testing that results in termination. Roger said last week that he didn't feel AJ, who is an independant contractor, should be treated differently.

Guess it wasn't a supliment.

Maybe, maybe not!

A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine, titled American Roulette-Contaminated Dietary Supplements, discusses the dangers associated with consuming dietary supplements, which often times may contain contaminants due to the relatively unregulated nature of dietary supplements.
The article begins with a vignette about a police officer who took a dietary supplement intended to help him lose weight, but unknown to him the supplement contained amphetamines, and due to a resulting urine drug screen positive for amphetamines, he lost his job. The amphetamines were not listed as an ingredient in the supplement, but the manufacturer of the weight loss supplement added them anyway.

NASCAR had the results of the test and they let AJ practice????

AJ's PR person says he was a few "nanograms" over the "legal" limit????

NASCAR says AJ was "way over the "legal" limit"????

How the Sam Hill can any amount of amphetamines be legal????

I have a lot of questions about this whole mess but it isn't going to end up good no matter what I think.

Penske execs made it very clear on the radio today . Penske has a zero tolerance policy for every employee . From floor sweeper to executive , you fail a drug test , you are gone . Surprising it took so long .

He did not practice after the results were know by NASCAR. Were did this info come from?

His PR person was misrepresenting the facts. Here's a link that explains his PR's misinformation in great detail.

Again that link explains this very well how a few nanograms is actually quite a margin. There are also links in the right side of the page that go into further detail about this. It is very informative. You can choose to read it or not. That's up to you.

I listened to this too. Did you also listen to Lee Spencer after she had just got off of the phone with AJ early this afternoon? She is going to be talking to him again soon. I think we're pretty close to hearing more from AJ's side about all of this.
