The new qualifying format and the Daytona 500

1- Short Tracks
2- RP Tracks
3- Road Courses
4- Everything else.
Short tracks, road courses, everything else, sports cars, open wheel, figure 8, school buses, Pinewood Derby, demo derby, plate tracks. Demo derby comes in ahead of plate tracks because they don't pretend they're about anything other than tearing up cars.

Then F1 :D

Yeah might look good on TV tearing up multiple quarter million buck cars, but to the owners, and some of the fans, it looks pretty stupid and for what.

Plate Racing requires a lot of precision on where you run, and it provides for interesting racing. It's not a total casino wheel because the fast teams still run at the front, it's just a bit easier for mid class teams to run up front too.

Group Qualifying is a clown show though.

I no longer go to Bristol. Had to give up either Bristol or Martinsville due to budget constraints. Martinsville is a much better race IMO. Bristol is the better overall experience but Martinsville is always a great race.

As I've gotten older a lot of the tracks are just too much for me. I doubt I'll go beyond my home track again. I know someone who does Bristol and Martinsville and in the last few years says Martinsville is better.

Bristol is like seeing your favorite rock band in a stadium with lasers and pyro. Martinsville is seeing them play acoustic in the club where they started as the house band.

I'll always regret not getting to Martinsville.

What would be wrong with heat races to qualify fot yhe 500?
I assume you mean just the 'Duels' heat races, with starting positions based on random draw instead of a qualifying session. Nothing would be 'wrong' with that, except Daytona, NASCAR, and Fox would have nothing to do on the Sunday after the Shootout (or whatever they're calling it these days).

For the other plate races, small 5 minute heat races would be cool. But for the Daytona 500, using small heat races to qualify for big heat races to qualify for the actual race seems kinda silly :p

They should just let them draw starting positions out of a hat. This is insane.

at the rate they are going, in a few years, some other form of motorsports will will pass them in popularity. This isn't qualifying..they are calling it that, but it is more like pro wrestling with wheels.

Yet we still have Forest Gump...errrr....M Waltrip and drivers sayin this is what the fans want. Who and where are the fans who like this garbage?:bsflag:

Also, it's just Daytona from what I've seen on Facebook and Twitter. So, if a 12 car wreck occurs in qualifying at Kansas or Bristol, it's different.

LOL.

NASCAR is off to a great start this year. ****** morons.

This terrible format won't put the sport in any danger as it's only for 4 weekends a year.

NASCAR should just keep it simple and do either single car qualifying, because that shows the fastest car, or small heat races, because it's actual racing, this mix between drafting and trying to run the fastest lap doesn't work.
