This sums up Nascar fans perfectly

Haters cannot help themselves. Thread derailed. Kyle Busch moves the needle. You either love him, or he is like gawking at a traffic accident. There is no in between. NASCAR probably needs more like him. Indifference produces empty seats and poor ratings. This whole Sam Bass thing is completely stupid. Kyle's intent wasn't to disrespect the man. This is clear. He was trying to be funny, and then share the pieces with his team--the very thing many assert that Kyle doesn't consider--he hates his team, and treats them like ****, right? He tried to make things right with Sam, and as I understand it, Sam is good with Kyle....

When you think you know what somebody else is thinking? That should be your first clue that maybe just maybe explaining that to others might just be a little off kilter?

uh no, I don't think I have ever thought I knew what a driver was thinking, and go so far to try to explain what he was thinking? to others.

Uh, yeah, if you assert that I am not correct in Kyle's thinking, I think that is exactly what you are doing. Whatevs.

Can't speak for anyone else but which driver it was didn't have an impact on how I felt about it. I would have been every bit as turned off by the move should it have been my driver at the time.

I don't have a problem with that....this thing still has legs because of the driver involved, however.

Probably why most of your rants are about how everybody needs to pay attention to the car instead of driver's personalities. :p

I can't help but wonder if fans of Kyle's antics that day would have also found it fun to watch him destroy a Daytona 500 Harley J. Earl Trophy or maybe a Martinsville Grandfather Clock after taking the checkered flag. For many, including the man that had devoted his time, effort & love for the sport into that iconic trophy, we find it unimaginable that someone would do that. If someone doesn't get that sentiment, they never will. My feelings are that Kyle has probably matured a lot since that day and wouldn't make the same choice in today's victory lane. If I'm wrong, he's a bigger A-hole than I thought.
Was it disrespectful for drivers 30+ years ago to sell their trophys after the win to afford to race the following week? They probably didnt order several more trophies after the fact either.

Look, I’m not a KB fan and what folks like SOI keep intentionally leaving out is the face that KB talked with Sam after the race, even posed with the destroyed guitar, and agreed to make Kyle two more. You really think a guy, who is made to sound gutted over the incident, would agree to take a photo op and paint two more? Come on. The blind hate Kyle gets is irrational at times.

Bingo. Sam really looks like he is about to kick Kyle's ass in my avi, doesn't he?

many of us think he has earned every bit of it.;)

Sam took the high road -- but he did state his disappointment.:)

Happily. Still don't know who you like.

This is one of the most idiotic arguments against Kyle that gets passed around. Do some research.

Kyle made a promise to his team that if he won at Nashville, he would smash the guitar and give a piece of it to everyone on the team.

What you dont know, is Kyle ordered two more guitars from Sam Bass immediately after the celebration.

Sam wasn’t hurt, and it’s his own artwork.

Details muck up a good story :(

Selling it to make ends meet and destruction are two completely different things in my eyes. We can certainly agree to disagree on that.

I heard Sam interviewed on Dave Moody's show in the days following that race and it was clear how he felt about it when it happened and afterwards. I'm not relying on a history lesson from any other posters.

Again, it could have been Driver X. Who it was had/has no impact on my thoughts about it. I thought it was wrong then and time hasn't changed my thoughts on it.

Details.

"...it was a revered Gibson Les Paul guitar that had been hand painted by longtime NASCAR artist Sam Bass and has become the symbol of Nashville Speedway.

Yesterday, Bass told NASCAR Scene he was heartbroken to see Busch destroy the trophy.

"It was stunning, absolutely stunning to see that thing destroyed within seconds of him getting it," Bass told Scene. "It's his trophy, he can choose to do with it what he wants. But I'm not going to lie about it. If he had asked me, ‘Hey, I'm thinking about destroying that trophy guitar whenever I win it, what do you think?' Of course I would have told him, ‘No. Please don't. Let us give you a prop guitar.'""

What would you like to see done with this? I mean you are beating a dead horse after it died at least 10 times. Would you like Kyle's fan base to dissolve? It won't. Would you like me to admit that Kyle is a bad guy? I won't. So, just want are you trying to do here? Make new friends.....on a message board? C'mon man. Ancient history. Move along. Who do you like?

Kyle got a trophy, that must mean he won a race and we got to see a bow and a bit of snark ..... what in the heck more can we ask for ? geeeez it seems all too simple :idunno:

“Drivers need to show personality and emotion!”

*already most hated driver in sport celebrates in a way you disagree with*

No not like that!!

We are very similar here. I coach 16u, 12u and 8u baseball and we celebrate our successes. We celebrate them as if they were our last. We do that because we don't know if it will be our last. I tell every single one of my kids that there will come a day where they no longer can do whatever it is that they love, so take the time that you have to do it and maximize it. I loved playing baseball and at 26 I was done. When I started coaching it brought back an even more intense love for the game and a desire to make a difference in kids lives. When we won our Championship last season we celebrated on the mound and dumped jugs of water on kids. It looked like we won the World Series. It pissed off the other parents, for no other reason then it is hard as a parent to watch your kid lose.

I had to explain to the board of directors why we celebrate the way that we do. Which disgusted me, but I was willing to oblige. It has nothing to do with respect. Respect is earned in the world. Our kids were made to shake each Coach's hand after practices and games and were made to stand and salute their parents in the stands after every game. When we won, we got to celebrate. By mid season our kids would be seen running around together and by year end we were told by every kid it was the most fun the had ever had playing the game.

The reality is that you can still remain humble in victory while celebrating your successes. The one thing we never let the kids lose focus on was the work that it took to get to that point. Three hour practices on Saturday morning, the extra 20 ground balls taken after practice was over, the extra reps in the cage. I would rather have 14 kids who hate losing then 14 who are not bothered by it and if I have to grab a kid and talk them down after a bad game or a loss I have no problem with it. I signed up for it as a Coach. At least they care. If we lose a trash can or a bat in the process, so be it. We can talk it out later and work on better ways to handle it going forward.

Too many people are complacent with mediocrity. They lose and they lean on, "you can't win them all". That is true, but it should be "don't talk to me for an hour because I'm pissed off and need to process this." A lot of this is created by the ideology that you have to be humble and gracious. When you are competing you should want to rip the competitions throat out. KB is that way. It is what has made him successful. He isn't disrespectful to anyone. The squabbles with his team is what happens with competitive people in a competitive environment.
Best post I read in a while. and I can relate I coached youth soccer after I myself was done playing at 27, I relate in so many ways. I would have loved to have a coach like you when I was a kid. And yes..... there DOES come a time when you have to let go of things you love doing. It sucks and I dont think I'll truly ever get over it but its being an adult (or so I've been told). I hope your teams love playing the game as much as you say, that is so awesome. As far as as the KDB Nashville celebration that happened many moons ago, I hated it at the time but as I got older it still bugs me but I also find it hilarious that so many people are still pissed about it and bring it up to this day. It's his trophy I myself wouldnt have done that because I love 1st place place trophies but what are you going to do? I remember reading that he broke it because he wanted to give each piece to each crew member but I might be wrong on that.

I have the utmost respect for Kyle as a driver but on levels other than that I am not a lover or a hater.

If I hated Kyle because he smashed a trophy I would have to hate Tony Stewart for all the stuff he has done. Tony’s actions have been so reprehensible that more than just a few people believed he hit Kevin Ward on purpose causing his death. No one would think that of Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon.

peace in the kingdom

There has been some good discussion on Kyle Busch and his personality. Changing gears do you or any others have an opinion on combining Kyle’s Nascar victories and champs across all series?

I breakdown records and accomplishments by series but I’m good if someone wants to throw em all together.

The two are not the same. You have two trophies. From there the idea that a person would smash a race trophy wouldn't make sense. However, the idea that a person would smash a guitar ala the way a rockstar would at a concert is comparable. When I look at this I see it this way. KB was looking to mimic a rockstar smashing a guitar. If you do not get that sentiment and it bothers you then you are searching for a reason to be mad. IMO, the artist needs to understand as well that once the piece of art is completed and you are no longer the owner/possessor of the piece it's done. If I buy your art and choose to destroy it that is my decision, as the artist he was paid and this thing was clearly a big misunderstanding. It shouldn't be that big of a deal.

That probably would have worked out a bit better if the media didn't explain a gazzillion times how appreciated an artist Sam Bass was ya think? Your technical stretching an event that was wildly proclaimed from everything from shocked to idiotic is admirable. I don't remember anyone saying "oh it was fantastic". Some drivers do some really stupid things, this was one of them IMO.

"...it was a revered Gibson Les Paul guitar ..

Gibson is in bankruptcy and Les Paul is dead.

Did you know that Mr. Bass creates one original hand-painted trophy guitar and has a few others wrapped? Find some close-up pics of Pete ... errr ... Kyle’s guitar.

So because the media blew it up and people all over were outraged it's wrong? We live in a world filled with overreaction from meaningless events. At the end of the day it was his to do with as he pleased. If he wanted to take a dump on it, it's his to do so. It just shouldn't be that big of a deal in the grand scheme. Trying to compare the Xfinity Nashville trophy to the Harvey J Earl Trophy, as was done earlier, isn't even the equivalent of the Conference Finals trophies compared to a Super Bowl/Stanley Cup/NBA Finals trophy. It isn't like the guy tipped over the Martinsville grandfather clock.

Hate to break it to you, but every trophy doesn't have to have significant meaning to every person. I can understand if someone doesn't like KB that this event just adds fuel to the fire, but that is because the people who dislike his antics/actions are looking for a reason. What I have never understood is what KB did had zero impact on any of our lives yet, it was met with incredible vitriol by people. That is a sign of people just wanting to be angry at something.

and the Winner is

Joey Loooo-Gaaaaaa-Noooooooooo!

there is winning and being a jackass about it, and there is winning and being humble about it. I'll take Jimmie for 7 you?
Humility and Jackassery have nothing to do with my enjoyment of this sport. I like Blaney and Busch.

When the battle is over the winner is Big Dog for a week. I go do something else and always look forward to next Sunday.

Fans got annoyed with Jimmie Johnson exposed the deep secret that over driving the car into the corners does not yield to more wins and does not make the driver better.
