Tony Stewart running over someone?

I know tempers are running hot right now, but get a grip on yourselves. Having a difference of opinion about the tragedy is one thing, calling each other obnoxious and insulting names is
something different.

We are all hurting because this happened to members of our "family".

Sorry about that, TRL.

I hope it was an accident, but it does not look good... The following is a quote from an article entitled "NASCAR driver Tony Stewart fatally strikes fellow driver at dirt track event" posted on nascar.com:

quote-- After Ward spun to a stop with a flat right-rear tire, the driver quickly dismounted to confront Stewart, walking out onto the track and pointing at the veteran driver's No. 14. Stewart's car revved and fishtailed, catching Ward with its right-rear tire and sending him a sizable distance from the crash site. --unquote.

Please note the word "revved"...

Yeah I don't think human bodies are very good for traction, I'd be surprised if it didn't lose traction and the engine revved up hitting a real soft spot in the track.

I like you, FB, and you are absodamnedlutely correct.

In my opinion, it would be the right thing to do without question. Surely all of us can agree on that.

Just a quote from HIM offering condolences about the tragedy. We know he feels terrible. That doesn't mean it's OK to skip that part of the process.

They did say that he was going to give a press conference at 1, right? Or was that just a decision that was made when he was still planning to race today?

So what do y'all think the fallout is going to be?

Honestly, I see sponsors fleeing from Tony Stewart, no one wants to be associated with the guy who killed a man, accident or not. He may have to sell his half of Stewart-Haas Racing, not sure on that one. I just don't see Tony returning to the #14 after this season IMHO.

I didn't see anything about Tony having a press conference. I hope he does. It's wrong to hide the raw emotion and address this once you've calmed down.

There still could be charges pending. It's best not to have a press conference at this point.

2nd year Tony's hobby has costs SHR and their sponsors big time. I was joking a couple weeks back that Carl was actually heading to SHR next year to replace a retiring Tony Stewart. With the wrecks he caused, and now this, he may be retiring from Sprint cars.

This is a horrible day. I'm extremely sad for everyone involved.

I really have a hard time believing that Tony intentionally killed this kid, and I certainly don't want to believe it. I think last night's incident was the sum of two bad decisions.

Would anything be accomplished if Tony did come out to talk? What could he say that hasn't already been said?
Feelings are too raw right now. Remember Dale Jr a week after his father's death. Remember how people hounded Sterling Marlin -- issuing death threats.

Totally different situations.

When you hit a guy on foot, under caution, after revving your engine, you need to talk. After your team says "Tony will race. It's business as usual", you need to talk.

From Marty Smith

NASCAR Statement regarding Tony Stewart decision not to race: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and fellow competitors of Kevin Ward Jr. We support Tony Stewart’s decision to miss today’s race and we will continue to respect the process and timeline of the local authorities and will continue to monitor this situation moving forward.”

Darwinism at its finest. Ward's lack of composure got him killed. I feel bad for his family. I feel worse for Stewart for having to deal with something like this.

Waking out on to a dark track and in a black suit. Idiot.

Not really. His moronic a actions caused a huge s**t storm. He was obviously too immature to handle racing at that level.

The kid killed himself with his sheer stupidity. Get it right.

The kid made a mistake, but that shouldn't be an invitation for ridicule, especially knowing he paid for it with his life.

Please show a little a decency for the dead. And I am sorry for Tonys nightmare too. But can you please try not to dance on the poor boys grave.

And for the record I have done some dumb things too that should have killed me, especially at 20.
Unless you were a remarkable exception I bet you did too.

Note: add honesty to the request for some decency as well.

If he meant to hit the kid, he would've hit him with the nose of the car, no?

It's always amazing how few of the people here actually seem to understand anything about racing.

He should release some type of statement as the media is going to be all over the other SHR drivers, unfortunately :(

No one is dancing on the grave. If I die doing something stupid I hope that people point out my stupidity and try and learn from it. The kid is dead. Gone. Forever. My opinions posted on this board won't change that. I stand by everything I said. The dude effed up but doesn't have to deal with the consequences of his stupidity. It's not fair but that's how it goes.

Sara Walsh is one of the hottest women on Earth and I'm sure Ricky Craven loves to sit next to her and look at her but she's dumber than a bowl of mashed potatoes. Should NASCAR prohibit drivers from going to short track races?

I can't believe people are so damn dense that they don't understand that Tony car revved and fishtailed due to the kid being a slick part on the track. Give me a break. The kid had no business dodging cars on a dirt track to shake his finger at anyone and unfortunately he paid the ultimate price for his actions.

You're a weird person. Try to spend more time away from that room full of servers you live in.

If you die at your keyboard today, we'll be sure to post how stupid you were.

I get that is a possibility.
