Truck race at the Rock

Although Keselowski and Stewart fans will disagree, I think last night's race was better than this.

Perhaps this final dash will help. But it will probably be a wreckfest.

Not a great race but it was nice to see a live race today. I'm surprised at the empty seats considering all of the moaning over the past 8 years.

I doubt there were that many fans in the stands for the last cup race ran at the Rock. That was a great crowd today.

Ty Dillon just flat out got ran over at the end.

That's what happens when you chop a guys front end with 2 to go. He's lucky PK didn't turn him instead of backing off. I see TY running into people lines way too much, and guys aren't going to put up with it.

The empty seats looked like mostly the cheap seats right next to the fence. Up higher was all filled up it looked like for the most part.

Rockingham is a driver's track. Drivers don't just get in and mash the gas. They have to work the throttle and stay on their toes with the steering wheel. That's why it's always been one of my favorite NASCAR tracks.

But with all of the whining about the closing of that place they should have been SRO with thousands being turned away at the gate.

I think you're suffering from gas fume euphoria. That's a lot of seats to fill for a CWTS race.

Whens the last time we heard cup drivers talking about tire fall off and having to really wheel it to the finish?

I was at the Rock in 1976 for the race and that was a day I will remember forever.

I'm curious about your homepage Jim, your business?
They still having good crowds at the Auburndale track?

Yes, that is my business. Unfortunately the track at Auburndale has suffered along with the times.

Someone mentioned they did'nt put the first five rows on sell because of the poor sightlines. 27,000 is not bad for a truck race.

Calm down lil' Andy, everything will be ok. ;)
He is right, one of the reasons they took it away was attendance, and the fact that nothing is there. That's why we get Chicagoland in a bigger city instead. This isn't going get them to go wow we should get the Cup cars back there.

There were a hell of a lot more than 3500 empty seats today. That place was 67% full at most. The first 7 rows were empty and the turn 2 stands were only 20% full.

I do think they should of had it, on a weekend where cup and nationwide were not all the way in Texas, the Truck race at Texas always does well, I am not sure why it is not in the same weekend has the other events. The race today did get good TV ratings.

Nobody shows up to watch "no-names" run.

I didn't think the fans would follow through on their promises, since they never showed up for the ARCA races. I'm shocked they did come through. Good for them. I'm glad I didn't have to kirk out. :) (I was kirking out over my Buick piece of **** instead)

NASCAR, are you watching? The fans are making demands now. They're tired of the crappy 1.5 mile tracks. They will not show up to the Nationwide race at Indianapolis. Keep Rockingham, bring back IRP and bring back North Wilkesboro!

Places like Chicagoland sell out regularly and hold a 75,000 seat capacity, while The Rock holds only 31,000, and there was only 25,000 there Sunday, thats estimated, to me looked more like 20,000 and thats pushing it. Yes, it's the trucks, but that's the reason Cup stopped going there.

Really? You're going to chastise fans when you didn't show up yourself?

People have other priorities, remember?

27,500 is terrible when one considers the hype. Fans screamed for a return to the Rock then they don't show up.

You define "showing up" a lot differently than a lot of folks, it seems. All other non companion truck races draw about 20,000. 27,500 at The Rock is fine in relation, probably about what they hoped for. It's not as if 27,500 is some kind of embarrassment, and there's no point in going back.

Think of it this way: What would be more beneficial for the Truck Series? 11,000 showing up at Nashville (last year's actual number) twice a year, or 27,500 in another race at Rockingham?

I thought the crowd looked great for a Truck race without having the Nationwide or Cup as a companion event. I think that they'll retain that Truck weekend and maybe even pick up a Nationwide event. Good luck to them @ the Rock.

If you think there were really 27,500 there you are more gullible than the rest here.

I'll say this then: It looked fine to the naked eye. No numbers involved, the crowd was fine.

We can debate the actual number, but we're not talking about a half empty facility. They put it on the schedule, and it visibly out-drew any of the non companion events from last year. That's a good sign. A sellout would have been great, but it's not like 10,000 people showed up.

If you want to see a dud of a comeback, check out the crowd at Milwaukee for IndyCar last year.
