TV Coverage 2018 thread

My god, the Daytona race broadcast sucked. So many stories and problems drivers had were not covered.

And no post race show for one of the biggest races .

Not hearing the 3 idiots from NBC was addition by subtraction and overall FOX was OK. I did think DW and Jeff said some things that made no sense at all but (dont remember what) as they seemed to be in semi hype mode. That ticker is as worthless as tits on a boar if you ask me but overall coverage good.

The commercials were a bit excessive in stage 3 when the cars were racing single-file, but I guess we didn't miss much considering the cars were racing single-file.

As for the ticker, I'd prefer a horizontal one. If we must keep the current ticker, I'd make it more transparent and shrink driver names to 3 letters.

Also, I'd alternate between driver letters and intervals (instead of showing both at the same time) to reduce the width of the ticker.

Yes, and the amount of ads, and all the different split screens need to go. Did you see them flip to a short word from Duracell right before they started the restart for the finish? How much money does Fox need to generate during a race?

Judging by what Fox paid compared to the ratings, I'd say every cent they can........ I'd rather see THAT than have them go to another commercial break.

I don't think it's any worse than using '-1' to indicate all cars a lap down instead of showing the intervals between them. After all, those guys are gaining on or falling back from each other too.

This has been one of my pet peeves FOREVER! I want to know whether a lap down car is faster or slower than the leader, and if a car I'm interested in is racing for the Lucky Dog, I want to know how whether he is gaining or losing time to the current holder of that spot. This information would be especially useful for the endurance sports car races.

I found the ticker VERY distracting. With the way the positions bounce around at a plate race, I found myself staring at the ticker instead of the race. It takes up too much of the screen too. I could maybe see this style of ticker for the plate races, but I think it's probably a total waste of time at most tracks. Positions just don't change often enough to warrant it.

FoxSports execs said on Sunday that they plan to stick with the new vertical ticker during NASCAR coverage and think that people who initially don't like it will adjust/enjoy it in time.
I luv that part of that. NASCAR fans will adjust. Yeah, we adjust well to change. Just look at the trend since the implementation of the biggest change in NASCAR, somewhere around 2004. Personally, I don't really give a crap about something like a side ticker vs. a top ticker but I know that some do. While I don't think a side ticker is anything to drive yet another fan away from the sport, little things add up.

I'm still trying to figure out why they continue to fix things that aren't broke. I mean, I can't think of a time when I ever thought..... Boy, how cool would it be for Fox to put a ticker down the left 20% of my viewing area? And make it black, so it really stands out. Yeah, that'd be great! I'm guessing in A Stern's pic that he posted above, the darkened ticker covers about a half dozen cars or so. Who knows? Not Fox viewers. I bet NBC is listening though. :D

but you don't give a crap about the ticker..I'm glad you don't, hate to see what would happen if you did :D

That gets me thinking a little. Recently, while watching the Olympics on NBC's Sports app, I notice that they have the same event being broadcast in what they call regular and enhanced versions. Too bad NASCAR, err FOX, couldn't do something similar. One where they load the screen with all the info they feel is necessary, and another that everyone prefers to watch. ;)

I gotta say I dont like the side ticker as much as the one that ran overhead. How I have adjusted is to not look at it at all and just look at on track action cuz where the drivers finish or what position they are in used to be super important to me but now it isn't a big deal. Before the chase I was up on all that stuff but now I just like to see the cars racing each other.

How fricking stupid, showing current speed of top 20 cars on left ticker with no idea where the car is on the track or how far behind the next car it is MEANS NOTHING.
