What do you think about the changes?

I haven't watched plate "racing" in years.
It gets worse every time watch it, I don't know....maybe I'm just an old fart that considers racing being able to actually pass and get away from the car you just passed. Nascar has intentionally ruined Dega and Daytona in the "hopes of creating excitement" with the pack racing.

I'm just done watching 20 car pile ups.

I like the 5-minute rule. I am sure the drivers do as well. I doubt any of them really wanted to drive around for 300 laps just to gain a couple points and keep the sponsor happy. Now they have an excuse to not have to do that and there is no reason for the sponsor to be unhappy. Unless of course, they start wrecking out regularly.

Changes are unnecessary IMO, but it really doesn't matter to me. Fire the engines. Let's race.

Race Day this morning showed that 89% of live online voters think the 5 minute rule is too short.

But "its for the fans"

I just don't see how 5 minutes to short. We are talking about racing here and 5 minutes is a lot if time in racing. Sure they could make it 10 and give the teams more time to fix it but then they'd be completely out of the race.

Out of the race maybe but could always get a few more points. Plus with how long some of the yellows are you can come on and off pit road a lot more to fix it so might still even have a chance.

The only change I think should be made is the clock starting once the enter their pit. 5 minutes is plenty of time when these crews can change 4 tires in 11 seconds.

I haven't noticed any meaningful differences between being stageless and staged in 2 races so far as drivers are not running any different and they aren't wrecking everywhere or being aggressive. IMO stages won't cause people to flock to or flee from the series.

nascar needs to rethink the money it cost to enjoy a weekend of racing at the track, then they will figure out why they can'
t get new fans to show up. what 18 to 25 year old has a grand or more for a race weekend at the track.

What 60 year old has a grand to spend for a weekend??????

Many in the 60+ crowd have the disposable resources to spend on a weekend. I know a bunch of ‘em.

But, I’m they’re not going to spend a dime on the show today’s NASCAR offers as racing.

Besides that, some think it’s excessively loud……..

2 tickets to Martinsville, VA - $120
2 nights hotel in Greensboro, NC - $220
Round trip gas from Cola. SC - $75
Food and drinks - $75

Sounds like under $250 each. It's definitely less than travelling to a concert or an away game. Those tickets will cost more, and there's likely an additional charge for the parking.

Oh, and $4 for two pair of earplugs :p

I'm thinking of going to Martinsville for a race this fall or next spring, is Greensboro the preferred place to stay?

Coming up from Columbia, SC, Greensboro is my preference. It's about an hour south, dual-lane all the way to the track but not controlled access. It's large enough and far enough that they don't mark the rooms up much, and plenty of good places to eat (although dining out isn't included in the cost estimates above :D ).

Obviously, if you're coming from another direction, there may be better choices.

There are plenty of places closer to the track but I don't know their prices as I take the RV route. If you ever want to camp, I know plenty of places around that area.

2 tickets to Martinsville, VA - $130
7 nights camping near Henry, VA W/E/S- $140
Round trip diesel from Western PA - $219
Food and drinks - $4 for two hotdogs. Carry in the rest.

Well I'll be flying in from Chicago so I was thinking of staying in Charlotte to see race shops like RCR, Hendrick and DEI. I also wanted to drive by North Wilkesboro. But I didn't think of Greensboro only an hour out from Martinsville. Didn't want to get too far off topic in this thread, thanks for the great ideas

Okay, I can see that. Heck, if anything, I eat less at the track.

Either way, hotel or camping, it ain't no $1K each to make a weekend of it.
Damn straight!.

I look at those trips to the track as mini vacations. Mine run slightly over $500 for a week. That's a damn cheap weeks vacation wrapped around the best two races on the schedule. I camp about 15' away from one of the largest lakes in the area. A beautiful/peaceful place to take the kayak's, have campfires, BS with other campers. Generally a very relaxing time.

Hampton GA is about 750 miles from where I live so if fuel is around 2.30 a gallon I am probably going to spend around $150. I would have 2 nights out on the road so that would be another $200 plus the ticket would be about $100. I am at $450 and if I add in food and miscellaneous items tack on another $150 for a total of $600. A trip like that would mean driving down on Saturday, going to the race on Sunday and leaving immediately for home after the race and getting in on Monday. When I was younger that would have been fine but even though it is still doable for me it wouldn't be a ton of fun. If I brought my son and grandson with me I would have to add another $200 for tickets plus there would be more food costs and ancillary expenses so the trip could easily come in at around $1000 out of pocket for me.

I am not sure I could justify the expense versus the value based on going to a race only but if I was taking a vacation and spending another 5 days out on the road and the race was just one stop I could convince myself of it.

You definitely need to go to Welcome NC to see the RCR museum as that is worth a trip in and of itself.

Why Hampton? Is that the closest track to you?

I usually combine other activities with a race trip, and rarely make one just for a race alone.
