What should be done with Talladega?

One guy found a way to make it work. When he arrives in the Ford camp, they will finally get back in the game and win some championships.

You are saying that he is wrong, I take it. hmmm...
OK, Mang! Dream on!
No, reread both posts. He is placing ALL the blame on Brian France, as if it was Brian that brought about plate racing. History dude, history. Unless, of course, you are also saying that Brian France is the one that is responsible for the plate racing that was introduced to NASCAR in 1988?

It all seemed pretty clear to me. Pack racing was always a crap shoot. The fact that Brian was at the helm when the tandem developed is just circumstance. People wanted the mayhem back, so they got it. I will say that using engine temp they way they are is pretty dumb. Hopefully they will figure it out soon.

I wish they would just call me. :D

I'm not putting ALL the blame on Brian France for the crappy quality of plate racing. The only blame that I'm putting on Brian is the new cooling system change and the inability to come up with a better option that does not result in a crapshoot winner and half of the field being dragged off the track by the wrecker (which also opens the driver up to possible injury as seen with the Eric McClure crash). Today's stock cars, aerodynamically, have exceeded the characteristics of dinosaur tracks like Daytona and Talladega.

UMMM....we'll see if that minor nuance makes a difference next week . The good news is that you won't have to retype the thread heading , just insert the track name change . I can also promise you that myself and quite a few others will still love the race and not want to blow up the track.

I like Darlington.

And your solution is? Oh yeah, to keep on bitchin'. That'll get it fixed.
I was actually waiting on the VaDirt solution. We all are. Unless you feel that it doesn't need fixing. Unless you feel that half of the field getting wrecked out because there isn't enough room to actually race. I'm sure if you talk to the 19 drivers that got caught up in somebody else's crap they would have a different opinion that you do.
Of course, their opinion doesn't matter. Only your opinion matters; because you had so much more to lose because of the cooling system and aerodynamic changes. You only care about viewing content, not sponsorship obligations or point standings. You have so much more vested in this Cup Series deal. I'm sure that the 19 other people that DNF'd the race, that were actually IN the race cars and have more to lose would certainly disagree with you.

VD thinks that all is right with the "race" in Dega.
Nothing you can say will change his mind - so let it go...

It's OVER!

Next Up, DARLINGTON!
Saturday Night. Under the lights!
I can't wait!!

I enjoyed the race but turning on one another because you didn't, makes no sense to me, though. If people watch a race they know they're not going to enjoy and then don't enjoy it, that's kind of their own fault

Anyway...

How about this from Kenseth, "I wasn't too fast," Kenseth said. "I was just too stupid, I guess, at the end to keep (Biffle) with me." :D

Are you writing the #2 off for the cup this year and putting all your ovum in the Ford womb? o_O

Wait, what? You're making too much sense here.

We will agree to disagree. Some of us like different tracks. I just do not like restrictions on race cars or race teams that inevitably result in torn up race cars. Should be 'run what ya brung" not, here run in a pack with with a sh1tty compromised cooling system and see who comes out the other side.

I hate to disagree with you Bobby because I know that you may be passionate about some form of motorsports , and more power to you . I , on the other hand , am a Nascar fan . I love plate racing , cookie cutter tracks , historic tracks that are hard to drive at todays speeds , short tracks , road courses , all of them . The different challanges that each track presents to the teams brings me back each week. I don't know what you guys are looking for , but I already found it. Why Jeff Gordon crashed is not my problem , the winners always seem to handle the track conditions as will the winner at Darlington next week. The losers will complain about everything , it has always been that way.

Just to clarify my OP I obviously prefer short tracks, Darlington etc....
But I don’t hate Talladega, and the race
Sunday was a good one. A perfectionist will disagree, but a person with real world expectations should be able to accept matters and find a lot of good, even with some blemishes.

The speed potential at Talladega does bother me. A CUP car could probably average 230 mph unrestricted. We no doubt would have suffered a 1955 Lemans type tragedy without the restrictions.

There are no bad guys or need to tirelessly insult Brian France on the topic. I by no means am a fan of the corporate shareholder interest outweighing the emphasis on quality of the races.
But the races at Talladega are good ones. I miss Earnhardts presence his stunts and skills, but that couldn't last forever and life moves on.

Talladega isn't going away or be subjected to a reconfiguration, only a 1955 Lemans like tragedy could make that happen. NASCAR has to keep the cars at about 200 to keep them on the track. If you don't like it, you respectfully would be better served to find a new hobby. Why torture yourself with the contemptible?

NASCAR is in tough spot. A purist will never be satisfied, and you can't reason with the lobby demanding no plates. That literally would result in criminal charges demanding justice for the many lost lives.

Tandem 2 x 2s then gets added to the RP sucks chant. RPs violate the idea of real racing etc.... So here comes another round of tweaks, they will never stop and the show must go on.

NASCAR'S task to please everyone is an impossible one, just try to enjoy the race or show. Do yourself a favor and be happy, that's life.

Thank you for posting what I've been thinking as I read thru this mess of post.

Bring on Darlington! The Lady in Black, Track to Tough to Tame! My favorite Saturday night of the year!

You continue to berate anyone that enjoyed the race, yet you also continue to claim that my opinion is the only one that matters. Does that make you the pot or the kettle?

Oh, and apparently you missed my very first post on this thread. But then again, I guess you'll find all kinds of fault with this statement.

Nothing needs to be done with Talladega. The cars, however, need to be worked for the track. If someone could come up with a well planned and acceptable to all parties way of slowing the cars down (or keeping them at about their current speed) while still allowing throttle response.

That being said though, I like plate racing. But like DPKimmel said, I also like short track and road course racing, it's all part of the season. And I also thought yesterday's race played out well and enjoyed it overall.

Just a fact you need to know before you continue. He's had his LR vaccination, so he's immune to logic and reason.
