What should be done with Talladega?

And therein lies the reason that things will never change.

Rowdy, I am not criticizing your opinion. You are not the only person who feels that way. Some people prefer Road Courses, some prefer Short Tracks, some prefer Destructor Plates. And that's just how it goes!

Thanks for your input and Welcome Aboard!

Zdega is about the only track ill go too. I love it. Love seeing the pack togather never knowing who will lead the next lap or who will win! Need a 3rd Dega race! :)

Ryan Newman says..... Move Talladega to a road course. There are some interesting comments by Newman in this article. There's also some good stuff in there on his fine for similar comments made about Talladega two years ago compared to Tony's most recent soapbox moment.

Ryan Newman wondered aloud Thursday if NASCAR really needs to race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Unlike his boss/teammate Tony Stewart's sarcastic commentary of the crashes following Sunday's race that left only 24 cars running at the finish, Newman's thoughts on the 2.66-mile Alabama track were clear-cut.

His solution? "Go to Barber Motorsports Park (in Leeds, Ala.) and have a third road-course race. Seriously," Newman said. "To me, that's the best option."

Flashback to Newman's Talladega interview.

The two races will remain. I might like a Road Course race better but a cup race at Barber MS park is a big unknown or crap shoot. Talladega also was built by the Frances (sorry I am only trying to be realistic it will stay on the schedule).

I would just be happy to have the Talladega race off the Chase schedule. There are too many variables in my opinion. An innocent driver can get caught in to many things that are out of his control (true anywhere, just more on an RP track imo).

Also most every Talladega race is going to get a caution after the last round of pitstops. You have more chances to go the front from the rear with a partner. And environment that encourages more stroking for the first 90 percent, a track without that option will necessitate that one maintains better track position for the whole race.

Talladega is also less open to the typical racing science. If you unload a bad car there, you are less likely to upgrade it with good adjustments.

If also is subject to more collusion. If you are not in the chase, but your teammate who is, just lost the draft then you are a good candidate to wait up and save him from losing a lap (I wish they would DQ the guilty).
It also encourages inter-team spotter coordination. Teams would have to be foolish to not use every opportunity during a chase race to win the title.

Talladega has been around for many years , and it isn't the problem . I think both Tony and Ryan are being critical of Nascar bowing to fan pressure and constantly making changes . Short tracks and road courses breed their own forms of uncertainty . In actual fact , with the increases in power of the racecars and the closeness of competition , the racers need bigger tracks , not smaller tracks to race on .

Ted I have to respectfully disagree. Big tracks that can allow speeds over 200 mph or airflight demand restrictions to protect the spectators. Places like Darlington, New Hampshire, Martinsville etc will be able to accommodate Sprint Cars, without the same risk for a long time.

Neither do they need as much engine R&D
The RP tracks drives up the cost of operating teams more.
