It's glorified iRacing, like the whole sport is becoming. Pretty soon, everyone will jump from a computer to a car because that's the only skillset required.

I hate this culture too. I think sports should require physical skill.
 
The Michigan/Pocono month and a half stretch sucks for the most part. Too bad its too hot outside to do something besides watch this snoozefest
 
Unpopular opinions. This ought to be fun......:dual9mm:

1) The playoffs suck in every form and we should go back to a modified Latford System that properly rewarded wins, top fives and ton tens.

2) Restrictor Plate racing sucks, and I wish all four plate races would go away.

3) I actually LIKED knock out qualifying, about 100 times more than single car qualifying. It's a shame that it just isn't practical at many tracks.

4) I think Joe Gibbs is a puppet ownership for Toyota. (Only half kidding).

5) I love road courses, but Sonoma and the Roval are crappy road courses.

6) I think the cars are too fast for most of the tracks they race on. You can't keep going faster and faster in the corners and then wonder why the racing is no good.

7) No tracks except Darlington, Dover, Bristol, Martinsville and Richmond should have two races. Watkins Glen should GET a second race. Pocono can keep two IF they make a GOOD road course in the infield.

8) The season is too long and should be 32 races MAX. I would also move the clash to the Friday night before the 500, and the All Star Race to the Saturday night before the 600, then move the 600 to Monday so drivers could do the Indy double.

9) Throw all the active Cup drivers out of Trucks and Xfinity, and then move some of their races back to some of their traditional venues. (IRP, Hickory, Myrtle Beach, Nashville etc.

10) Divide the NASCAR Hall of Fame into sections, Cup, Xfinity, Truck, Modified, etc, and then people could be multiple time inductees. Kyle Busch could get inducted three times. :micro:
 
Unpopular opinion: 40-60k people is still a huge crowd at any sporting event. Nobody but football and NASCAR drawing that many to a single event. Some MLB games get under 1000 people.

I'm assuming you mean 10k, not 1k? There have been a few games under 10k but they are pretty uncommon outside of Miami. Only five MLB teams average less than 20k fans per game. And each MLB team plays 162 games a season, so not really a good comparison.

The 974 person White Sox game comes to mind. As well as a Kansas City game with around 500 this year.

Oh come on lol. Those were very unusual circumstances. I guess technically you're correct, but using a couple extremely irregular outliers shouldn't be relevant to prove your point.

Well that wasn't even the main point. People trash NASCAR for only getting a crowd of 50k. That's a good crowd for a live event of any kind.
 
Give the drivers all the horsepower they want, but cut the spoilers down to about 3 inches. I don't believe there should be a track on the circuit that a driver can hold the throttle down all the way around. Make them drive the cars!

2.) I like Fuel mileage races because you can see strategy play out in real time
3.) I love the Brickyard 400
4.) Ryan Blaney is overrated

I agree with those except the Roval. But those are fairly unpopular opinions at least among the hardcore fans lol.

1.) I hate the Chase, Playoffs, Playoff points, stages and wish the Winston Cup Points system would come back.
2.) I hate this aero/rules package and fear the way Cup is headed toward spec racing with teams probably no longer making chassis in house or engines in house. I dont want to watch IROC racing every week.
3.) North Wilkesboro should be on the Cup schedule instead of a race at Kansas, Texas, or Dover.

Hey...I finally agree with you...on most of this stuff. Do believe that North Wilkesboro should return, but as an added event not as of instead of.

North Wilkesboro is never coming back, if anything else anything else Rockingham should be added back to the schedule.

I'm tired of the North Wilkesboro thing, if I had the money to do it, I would love to revive it. The thing is, who is going to get the funds buy it off of the current owner.

Kansas contractually cannot be removed from the schedule atm and Texas is Gossage's baby, its sure as hell not going anywhere.

The past is the past, I wish fans voices would be heard, but its gotten old. We complained about the schedule getting stale and small changes were made so far. The Roval has been a great addition to the point now IMSA is interested in racing and IndyCar.

Road courses add a great challenge and variety to the schedule. Its much needed and should not be taken away.

I agree too. It just isn’t a form of racing I enjoy watching, and having those skills doesn’t of themselves demonstrate the driver is a great stock car driver.

I could quibble with #5 but I agree with the rest of these 100%.

I disagree.

iRacing can be can quite physical, especially ovals. When I used a wheel, I turned my force feedback up quite a bit when I was using a wheel. Its hard and I workout quite a bit, its all dependent upon the user. I wish I could afford a Direct Drive Wheel, at 100% could possibly be one of the most difficult things as a SIM racer.

Nothing can replicate actually being out on track driving a 3000 lb stock car though. Not just anybody can do it, Byron and Majeski are freak occurrences. Both have proven to be pretty darn good drivers coming from iRacing, nothing wrong with eSports.

You sound like an old head afraid of change at this point. I disagree with it because not just ANYONE can jump from racing online to being a professional racer.

The original poster is a part timer with an agenda IMO. I've watched more drivers climbing out of the cars this year sweating and exhausted after the races. This car is not easy to drive and they are having to race every lap to get a good finish. Plenty of sawing at the wheel going on, that years past a small shop towel would be used on the face and a comb thru the hair and they looked like they didn't race 400 miles on many tracks.

I disagree in that sorry you're tired of the Wilkesboro thing but many a fan are still upset that its gone and be it as it may they still deserve a voice to. Just as you're tired of hearing about it, I am tired of hearing it shot down and the "let go of the past." I feel like that mentality is insensitive to people and fans who really loved that place. You said who could buy it off the current owner ( Smith's) well why cant the current owner put some money into it? Why not? I am not gonna spend the Smith's family money but really why not at least see if it can be viable for lower level NASCAR? That track is so much cooler than most of what is run today. I would bet more tracks like Wilkesboro ( more short tracks) would be looked favorably upon than more road courses. I like the 3 that are in NASCAR but not dying for more, maybe one more. It doesnt do anything for me to see Stock Cars on road courses, I have Formula 1 and Indy Car for that. I want more short tracks. But this is just one guy's opinion.

Wouldn't it be much cheaper and easier to build a replica North Wilkesboro instead of rebuilding the current dilapidated structure? Unfortunately, North Wilkesboro in it's current state is likely too far gone for revival.

My feelings are due to the fact that I was not born at the time they were racing at North Wilkesboro. I was born in 93 and the last race in 96, so my memory is slim to none of the track. I bet it was an awesome place to race and would be a much needed addition for the schedule. I get that, it sucks that many who love the track are seeing it decay away stuck in time.

It sucks because tracks like it should be given another life, but if the Smith's are not willing to sell it, then no one can do anything about it. Short tracks are needed on the schedule, I'm not disagreeing with you there. It would be great with a bit more variety, but what I mean is the Smith's are letting it decay for their reasons only. It seemed like a great place, but this why I'm saying Rockingham is a better facility because its actually back to life and damn near ready. Technical, abrasive surface, and multiple lines can be run.

I'd love to be of age to remember but, but I'm not. Here in Polk there was USA International off of I-4 near Lakeland, the facility was closed down and turned into a parking lot. I remembered when the then Hooters, now CARS Tour used to run there. Broke my heart and still does to this day that one of the tracks local to me hurt.

I'd be down with that too, in fact that'd be even cooler. A short track in a market they dont go to with an exact replica of the past. I'd be down for that.

Yea I have a good recollection of that place and that's why its easy for you to say "move on" because you were going on 3 years old when they shut the place down. I get it, I am not going in on you, its just that... you didnt know I guess you could say but I dont want to speak for you. I think we both can agree though we think about this topic differently and I am okay with that. But that place was pretty special and I would wager it still could be if the effort ($$$$$) was made. What I am trying to say is it'd be nice if we could have a bit more variety to the schedule while also going back in time, what a neat twist that would be.

Agreed, its the reason I'm screaming for Darlington to get a second date. Its an amazing track in a market and town that cherishes it.

It would be cool, I'd wish the Smith's were willing to move it. My guess is that with Charlotte being the Smith's family crown jewel, they probably feel as if it would be taking money away from events like the Coke 600 and now Roval.

That's just my guess and North Wilkesboro is a small town, I've never been through there. Talk about getting back to grassroots racing, it would be incredible for the primary series to find a way back to it. I'd be willing to bet someone will buy it, it it ever comes available.
