WNBA

Yeah, I see Sabrina as a future, grizzled, hardened, version of Caitlin

TOO MANY COMMAS, PAL! 🤦‍♂️

It was a great game. The lynx plays some great defense. The Ionescu / Stewart combo is something to behold and you can never count them out. At this stage though I think is can still go either way. Both teams are deserving to be in the Championship Series.

I heard that Alanna Smith got hurt in Game 3. :(

Obviously I love Minnesota's entire squad and have gushed about them all season long, but I really have a soft spot for Lan, especially after learning about her W backstory, one of several good redemption stories I've heard and read about this season. (Indiana had her and cut her two years ago, which is wild to me.)

Lan can shoot like the rest of the Lynx, but just as importantly, she's a hustler and is a major part of their interior defense. She claims she's okay physically and is gonna tough it out and at least try to get some minutes in Game 4 tonight. As the headline accurately says, they need her. This could be the last game of the season. 😬

I have a real problem. The Steelers also play Sunday night and I have been a fan of them since 1950 when Joe Geri played for them.
Watch Game 5 afterwards on League Pass, and if you have the WNBA app and care about spoilers, make sure you go into the settings there, turn off all notifications, and hide the scores.

Putting it on the "must see" list .
I'm in the MN camp since I have a bunch of family there.
I like that NY team too though.
That's pretty much how I feel. I'm so torn. I obviously can't help but root for the Lynx, but I can't root against the Liberty either, given their history (that's Becky Hammon's, Spoon's, and Vickie Johnson's team), the fact that they're the closest thing to a home team that I have, and their awesome current ownership group that put this great current roster together. They're a top notch organization, like the Lynx have always been.

The Liberty are, to my knowledge, the only OG WNBA team that has never won a championship before despite coming so close so many times. I'd probably be a little happier to see the Lynx win, but I'd legitimately be sadder if the Liberty lose. I mean, I can't reasonably be expected to root against JJ, Stewie, Sab, Sloot, Leonie Fiebich, etc. Come on now.

Ryan Ruocco is a really fun PxP guy. Phenomenal year from him.
Yep. The Liberty's Michael Grady and Ryan Ruocco are my favorite play-by-play commentators that I've heard so far. Minnesota's Marney Gellner is my sentimental local favorite. Debbie Antonelli, Rebecca Lobo, and Chicago's Shimmy Miller are my favorite analysts.

Overall, I've liked the local coverage better than the national coverage so far (though I do enjoy ESPN's playoffs theme this year, I'll give them that). I like Connecticut's (NBC Sports Boston's) coverage the best right now. I love their little opening/intro tune. The whole crew has a great camaraderie that shows during the broadcasts. They're professionals, yes, but they also like cutting up and having fun, which for local coverage, I love. Makes me feel like I'm just kicking back and watching the game with some friends. ^_^

I could listen to Courtney Williams all day long. This little moment between her and Marina Mabrey during the Minnesota/Connecticut series (I think during Game 2) had me hyped, for obvious reasons. Just two of my favorites and two former work wives goin' at it, talkin' that trash. 😁

Things were gettin' a little chippy out there, as I would expect during a playoff series between two of the most physical and best defensive teams in the league. Marina and DiJonai Carrington both got into it a little bit with Kayla McBride, who stood strong and held her own. McBuckets is tough, man. Even though she got T'd up on this exchange, I respect the fire and was proud of her for standing up for herself.

I am not torn between who I want to win the Championship. I love Collier and think she is great but I hope the Liberty win..

After learning today NY Liberty doesn't yet have a title,
it won't hurt my feelings if they win tonight.
Yep, I'm still pulling for Minnesota but won't be upset to hear that New York won.

Either way, since it's a work night, I'm gonna make myself scarce around here and will find out who the champions are tomorrow morning. Enjoy the game, guys. 👍

The place is electric tonight. Great preshow.
No lead is guaranteed tonight, as we know.
Just read Breanna Stewarts wiki, what a resume.
Now to check the NLCS.

Going down to the wire, again. Really gritty game so far, buckets are tough to come by. Hopefully Collier or McBride can seal the deal.

This is blatant. Minnesota robbed of a clear path foul after a steal.

This is so, so, so bad. This league’s officiating needs a total reset next year.

Collier draws way more contact on a drive to the basket than Stewart did at the end of regulation and of course it isn’t called. You ****** idjits

I’m ill. Holy ref ball.

Ionescu 1/19 and Stewart 4/15 from the field, but the Liberty win the free throw disparity 25-8 and take the Finals.

Sickening. So glad I don’t have to give a **** about this league for another six months.

They need to get better officials for sure.

Watched too many Indiana Fever games get decided by refs this year.

She fouled out shortly after this and finished with 23 shot attempts and zero FTs.

One of the actually blatantly rigged sporting events I’ve seen.

I remembered how many times Liberty kept coming up short during Houston Comets dynasty in WNBA Finals

So, I see that the Liberty finally won themselves a championship - congrats to them - and that folks are really going in on the officiating. SMH. I read an article about it, but I'll have to watch the game for myself before I form an opinion on it one way or another. I'm still at 1-1 in the Minnesota/Connecticut series, so it's gonna be a little while. :lol2:

Bad fouls have been called all year. I don't believe that anyone was more involved in bad calls than Caitlin Clark, but I didn't see much support for her. I don't believe that the officials intentionally make bad calls but that they are just not very good.
Yeah, there were some questionable calls in the Liberty vs lynx finals but all in all I believe the Liberty outplayed them. The lynx had enough turnovers to lose most games. Reeves gives absolutely no credit to the Liberty for winning and that PO's me.

Welp, my first WNBA season has come to an end. I'll finish up the last few games I need to watch as I get time. I've got 6 months, so definitely no rush.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started watching it or how long I would stick around, but I really enjoyed it. It took me back to my college days at times, when I would come back from the dining hall to the dorm with my food and turn on a Sixers, Nets, or Knicks game. It was a familiar experience, yet different, in a good way.

As I jokingly alluded to downstairs, I'll likely be making some changes next season. I'll see what the rosters are looking like by then, but if the star/key players stay put, which is likely to be the case for Minnesota and Connecticut from the little I've heard, I'll continue following the two of them and will stop following Indiana.

It's way too early to call right now, but as things stand today, Indiana will be replaced by either Phoenix, Washington, Vegas, or whatever team the next superrookie Paige ends up on (likely LA, last I checked).

Scrolling the tl and now I’m pissed again. Damn.

Aww, keep your head up, Phee (you too, FL). Use the disappointment as motivation for next season.

When I started following Minnesota, I knew they were one of the all-time great franchises and had a good record this season, but I wasn't even thinking about the possibility of them winning a championship or anything. I just liked the way they all played together as a unit on both ends of the floor.

They went from having an under .500 record and being the second-worst defensive team in the league last year to winning 30 games and becoming one of the top two defensive teams. They came within a couple points of winning a championship. Man, that's a phenomenal turnaround, and I'm super proud of them. I get that the loss is a heartbreaker for them, but I can't hang my head.

I really should buy some Courtney Williams and Phee swag. I believe that Courtney is signed for another year, so unless she gets traded (please, no!), she'll be there next season.

In case no one has noticed, the NY liberty also finished the season with the best Conference winning percentage of >800 (32 W - 8 L.
