Then explain the accidents caused by undamaged cars in the first stage. Damaged doesn't equal liable.

Harvick's a driver, not a crew chief, and he hasn't had a look at original damage or the resulting repairs.

That's not the 5-minute rule. That's the one about not being able to replace body parts. A handful of pop rivets would prevent that ASAP.

EDIT: the more I think about it, the more I wonder if THAT'S the rule y'all should be questioning.

If there's this many cars left with 2 or 3 laps to go there's going to be another big one. There's too many cars who are compromised aerodynamically to survive a lot of bobbing and weaving.

Is there anything that says they can't bring it to the pit and beat on it themselves? You can bang away on a damaged car; can you beat on an undamaged one?

I think it depends...%-age of previous damage and all.

I would say you should be able to beat on a relatively undamaged car, to a degree. Maybe twice.
