Chase Elliott frustrated at Las Vegas finish: ‘We didn’t deserve to beat anybody’

“We just about wrecked down there and, thankfully, Brendan had a great save and was able to get it straightened back up.
“It’s frustrating. Man, we were absolutely terrible. There’s nothing to be proud of at all today, zero percent things to be happy about. Today was just absolutely terrible.”

Saturday’s result matched his finish last week at Atlanta.

When asked what he and the No. 9 team need to work on going forward, Elliott was blunt.

“Anything and everything,” said Elliott, fifth in the standings, 24 points behind series leader Ty Dillon. “We were battling for 10th there for the latter part of the day. That’s not acceptable.

“We’re going to step up, everybody, especially me, and we’ll try to get it again next week at Phoenix.”

Hamlin: Fourth-place Las Vegas Xfinity finish ‘mediocre at best’

“Mediocre at best,” Hamlin said. “Proud of this whole Monster Energy team, but that’s about what we had for a car. We didn’t have any short run speed and that kills you on these restarts.

“We had a big hole in the nose that in hindsight we probably should have fixed, but other than that it was kind of a status quo day. It’s kind of what we had. Didn’t tear anything up and we’ll build on it and try to run better next time.”

Hamlin was in the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Monster Energy Toyota Camry in place of Busch, who suffered a broken right leg and broken left foot in a wreck in the Xfinity Series season opener two weeks ago at Daytona.

In just his third Xfinity start in as many seasons, Hamlin might have been able to mount a late charge, but his car’s handling went away in the closing laps of the 200-lap event at the 1.5-mile racetrack.

“It just got tight at the end of the day, but still proud of this team,” Hamlin said. “Just didn’t have the car or the speed to run with the 33 (race winner Austin Dillon).”

I think it's funny that a majority of the people on this board (I'm guilty as well) hate on Austin Dillon but constantly throw praise at Kyle Larson. Dillon has 3 nationwide wins, 11 poles, and a championship. In trucks, Dillon has 5 wins, 12 poles, and a championship. Yet the driver we hear about every week being the "next Jeff Gordon" has a whopping 2 nationwide wins, a pole, and a truck win in almost 3 years. IMO Dillon is underrated and Larson is overrated, Larson doesn't win enough to be considered an elite driver. And when you compare the stats, Dillon is better. The only thing Larson has over him is rookie of the year, and that's a prestigious award that Ricky Stenhouse and Kevin Conway have won, so that award has basically become meaningless. And this is all coming from a big Larson fan

Let's see, he ran one full year in nationwide with questionable equipment under him, finished a respectable top 10 in points. Next year he runs mostly all of the races and gets 2 wins.

Not too bad.

And in Cup it's not even a contest. Larson is running laps around Austin. And Austin had a few years advantage in cup.

C'mon man..

Dillon has more wins and championships. Are you going to honestly tell me you would take Larson's resume over Dillon's?

And I'm not disputing Larson is good I'm just saying it's time to cool the hype. He's more of a Kasey Kahne then a Jeff Gordon

In a heartbeat.

Austin hasn't done anything in Cup to warrant attention or interest. Larson is on his way there. Pull out the stats, they're there.

Larson only ran one full year in Nationwide while running for the championship also. Austin had been in it since 2008 and ran 2 full years running for points.

Outside of that championship, their stats are very comparible. Even with Larson running 20+ less races than Dillon.

That's like saying do you take Jimmie Johnson over, say Kyle Busch.

It's not even close and you know it. You cant argue stats.

Well we know Kyle's more talented then Jimmie, so let the firestorm commence.

welp using Kyle Busch dog wins logic Austin Dillion has more wins this year than Larson. :partytime

What?

I'm more than happy to use any other kind of logic. We can toss out Nationwide and go Cup only.

Larson would still be a better driver.

I'm not. way too early to tell who does what as far as I am concerned, this year will be the one to watch, both of them have raced at all the tracks. austin is going to be racing a bunch of Xfinity this year so let the whines begin.
