No Jr this week

I gotta give it to Jr. I used to hate him when he was younger, but he matured really quick and he's become a humble and likable guy.

Knowing what we now know about the long term effects of concussions and Jr being exceptionally smart I would not be at all surprised if he retires very soon.

Unless they prove to him that this isn't another episode of concussion syndrome, I have to agree. I think that Jr. is rattled big time. I am sincerely hopeful that he isn't done, but honestly, I am concerned. There was a feeling in the presser. Duchart has a different kind of affect, but man, there looked to be some big concern there. Hoping for the best.

^ I also agree that Dale retiring soon would not be surprising, as the hits he took at Michigan and Daytona were not hard hits (relative to what a Cup driver expects to take multiple times per year). I hope that is not the outcome. But I feel like Junior will not carry on if the cumulative effects mean he is at elevated risk from those moderate hits like Michigan and Daytona. Also, I guess it is possible his Michigan hit was more substantial than I judge from TV replays, but the NBC crew did also say those were not major hits.

If Junyer retires this year who gets his ride?

I don't understand the way these drivers think.
Jr sits out for something that could affect him in a bad way later in life and is applauded for it as he should be, but half these drivers would hide it if they think it might hurt points or possibly lose a ride.
But break a leg and their out. In either situation one win and top 30 in points and you could still make the chase.
I hope Jr gets healed up and comes back and wins Richmond.

If Jeff retires again after Indy . How many retirements is he behind Mark Martin and DW ?
jeff never used the word retirement. he has never said he would stop racing either. I think him filling in like this is consistent with the plans he made and told everyone about. Its likely how he envisioned his "retirement" being.

Eric Jones.

The HMS switch to Toyota will be announced the day before.
Is that right after Danica wins the championship ?:D

( please note, I kid because I care, and that should not be taken as me bashing on Danica)

On a serious note, HMS switching to Toyota might just make become a fan of HMS

I hope Jr doesn't retire but that is selfish of me. I think he's really happy with his life, that could have an effect on his decision. Amy makes him very happy.

@bobpockrass

Hendrick Motorsports tweeted yesterday that a decision will be announced today as far as Earnhardt status for Indy.

@MartySmithESPN

Dale Jr. underwent further evaluation Tues at U Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program. Battling balance/nausea issues

It's also where he sought treatment in 2012.

Will not travel to Indy or Pocono.

I became a bigger Jeffy fan since hearing him in the booth. Think of what he will add to the booth after driving this package! And if he wins......break out the waiver.....

If there were ever a way to show just how effed up this championship format is, a Gordon win/waiver combo would magnify that fact significantly. I am going to be one of the biggest Jeff Gordon fans over these next two weeks. #TeamGordon #GoJeffgo
