2017 - Daytona 500 - Pre Race Thread

The off season.......... is........almost.........over

I can not wait to hear the roar of the engines , and the smell of fuel and rubber.

Oh I agree. And I do the same thing usually. I was able however to get a nice room 20 mins from AMS for $135/night in a few weeks. So there are the exceptions when it comes to certain tracks I guess.

Daytona knows that people make this week their vacation. And a lot of the people that are at this race are not from FL, so they'll have no choice but to pay the price. It's definitely unfair but it's simple supply and demand.
I guess in comparison to 500 dollars today....... I paid almost that much in today's dollars.... In '92.... I paid 175 dollars for a room at Charlotte..... for the 600.... but.... that was my only time being that silly..... now mind you..... it was a damned nice place..... not a Super 8... it was a place that even Bruton Smith would have stayed in......LOL.....

Officially excited for the 500 and NASCAR to start. Watching the 1994 Daytona 500 right now and maybe the 1998 500 before passing out.

Starting to think bout cancelling my trip out Saturday. Just doesn't look too good when you consider how long it takes to dry that place. 80% during the afternoon and 50% at night. They should get morning practice in but beyond that I'm not feeling very optimistic.

Peak hotel price means the highest price being charged for any room? Wouldn't average hotel price be more informative? Not sure who put this fact out, but seems severely misleading.

If this is the average, I would suspect it is because Daytona is a far smaller city than the city that hosted these other two games rather than some indication of interest.

The point is that most fans won't. I wouldn't pay that for a hotel anywhere, regardless of the event. This is why I usually stay 60-90 minutes away where I'm not going to get gouged as much or at all. But if I can't afford a room within a reasonable distance, then there's no point in getting an event ticket in the first place.

I 2nd that.

I understand the economics, but it hurts the track when the price of lodging keeps people from buying race tickets. Tracks need to put more emphasis on working with local hotels to cap the room prices; say, 33% to 50% above what they usually charge, and none of that 3-night minimum crapola.
