Austin Dillion Fan Favorite?

If Austin backed out, there more than likely been a bigger wreck from drivers checking up. The 10 was blocking and lost the air off his rearend, Austin did nothing wrong.

It is what it is with AD. You either like it or you don't. I don't mind what he did. If you ask me Almirola blocked a tad late, but he got there. Did Dillon wreck him? Yeah, he said so himself. It's refreshing to hear him say it and explain why. We all sit back and arm chair QB these guys for the moves that they make and the excuses they give to the media as to why and then when a guy comes out and honestly states he did it, doesn't feel bad about it and would do it again everyone is up in arms about it. I see a lot of "he didn't even show concern for Aric." How do we know that? From an interview? These guys are in communication with each other all the time. They don't have to publicly apologize to make you feel better.

It is a potential career altering race. I say have at it. It is the climate that has been created with plate races. Blocking on plate races has become the norm. When guys used to get runs they used to not have to deal with as much blocking, now they do. This is the result. How many of the incidents or near incidents were caused by blocking or attempts to block?

You use the term "career altering race" loosely with this one. He and Bayne can stand side by side and say we are Daytona 500 winners. Austin has one more win in his career of 8 years in cup than I do. It will fool some of the people sure. Comparing the two, Bayne at least won his 500 clean. There will always be an asterisk by Dillions win by some of us fans. Got the ring though right? that is all that matters.

Would you say that Bayne's win has alone allotted him the time he has had in the 6 car since? Would he even be in a top flight ride if not for that one day? I would say it's career altering. He could back at home running Super Lates on Saturday night. Dillon will forever have a ride, but a Daytona 500 provides more opportunity and opens more doors for these guys. Yeah it's career altering and I'm not using it loosely.

Nope I would say Bayne staying in a Roush dump truck parallels Casey Mears staying in the Geico ride for years with no results. It's a head shaker. Dillion like many privileged or silver spooners will stay in the three as long as Childress can finance it. Personally I believe if anyone of the three youngsters that Roush Penske are using in the 60 car in Xfinity had two or three nickels to rub together, they could buy Bayne out of his ride in a heartbeat.

So wait you got 1 Cup win? You said AD has 1 more than you do and he has two wins. Where did you get your win?

Beuscher and Wallace were both in the Roush camp and neither of them were able to unseat Bayne. Do we know if Bayne is bringing the Advocare sponsor to the table?

IDK, I do know Geico liked Casey Mears. But when young Ty came along with RCR affiliation, Mears was down the road. I know Buescher came from common folk from Texas, didn't have squat when he joined Almindenger, but they were able to expand Kroger stuff for him and Bubba has had to surmount mountains to continue to be in the sport. I try not to pay any attention to Bayne. I do the same with Reed in Xfinity sponsored by big pharma. Pretty obvious why Reed has been around as long as he has for Roush.

Its interesting to me because when Bayne won it was all the rage. He was the toast of the town for half the season. Obviously you can only shine a turd for so long, but he has shined it up for quite a while. Plus there have been ample opportunities to replace him and nothing has even been talked about.

that's funny I thought Bayne was a fluke when he won. I think Austin is marginally better then he, and I can't wait until Atlanta, but yeah I bet they will have a blurb or two during the season they will run ..because 3 Remember when Gilliland pushed David Regan to his win at dega, another fluke win..Regan's other win was a Daytona 2 not much big help with those two wins either.

Oh I definitely think that Bayne was fluky. I think Austin is decent. I think he is the unfortunate one who has to watch NASCAR grow with possibly one of the best crops of young talent the sport has ever seen. I know he has had a head start on them, but how often does one sport see talent the likes of Chase, Larson, Blaney, Bell, Byron, Bowman all near a few years of each other?

As a NASCAR fan Lil Sweet has become my favorite avatar.

Yes, Bayne had the relationship with Advocare, and he brought that deal to Roush. I don't know what role Bayne's Daytona 500 ring and trophy played in developing that relationship... probably a large role IMO.

I look like a meathead now for bashing him while also being a fan of his but I had bet money on Almirola so I had a little bit of a Kyle Busch temper tantrum :p. But I really don’t see why people hate on Dillon so much driving wise, he’s won Trucks and Xfinity titles and now has won twice in Cup (Coke 600 and Daytona 500), and made the round of 12 in the chase past 2 years. He strikes me as a Clint Bowyer type and is a solid driver that can win a race every now and then and get consistently finishes. Casey Mears and Paul Menard he is not lol

I think it was Mike Skinner that said he'd wreck his grandma for a win. I can't recall. It's been a long time, and I've slept a lot since then.
Tony said he would wreck his mother for the win at Daytona.
BTW All Austin did was keep his foot in it and keep going. It was Aric that stepped in front of the train and payed for it. That's why he isn't mad and neither is SHR.

I would imagine so. Which is why I said earlier that the 500 is a career altering win. I mean it only makes sense, right? Lol.

If you're gonna wear the black hat, then you have to back it up with wins... lots of wins. Sr could be a huge ass on track all day but still have fans because he won so much. Same with KB today. Austin needs to start contending for real wins soon.

People ignore Austin’s record because they don’t like him. He’s the silver spoon kid who wears a goofy hat, dabs (lulz), and slides through the infield.

I’m not saying many of these things aren’t true. Or that he’s some elite level Cup driver. But fact of the matter is Austin Dillon has made the most of the opportunities he’s been given. He’s won championships in 2 of NASCAR’s top 3 divisions. He’s won the Coke 600, and now the Daytona 500. Id say he belongs.

plate races pretty consistently have winners who aren't that good slip in and steal one. Every once in a while a driver who isn't that fast wins the race because the others run out of gas. Dillion has both of those under his belt.

Do you guys think his penchant for winning the big races will continue?

He has a real shot at Indy... look at what happened there last year. :p

Who ever came up with that KFC commercial was a pure genius. Between this thread and the Atlanta race thread it is the most talked about subject on this forum. And the advertising actually worked...I was going to go to the buffet tonight for dinner, but after reading the Atlanta race thread I ended up going to KFC. I don't have a problem with Dillon, his hat, or the fact that he drives the number 3 car. He has the opportunity to drive for his famous grandfather so good for him.

I believe they are on good terms but I'm not sure actually. lol
