2018 Chicagoland -- OVERTON'S 400 - Pre-Race Thread

Not trying to go all "negative weather" but there is one helluva line of thunderstorms forming to the west...

It's dead at the track.

I haven't been there for a race but I did drive by it on an insanely hot July day (Roy Halladay left the game against the Cubs due to heat related sickness) and I can't imagine being there. It sits in a wide open plain just south of downtown Joliet. It's just baking in the sun....

Every single one of those people in the stands should be given a 50% of voucher on next years tickets. Hell, buy 1 get 2 free!!

That was Jim Cornelison.

He does the anthem at Chicago Blackhawk games.
That explains why the stands went ape poop when they announced him and kept it up all through the Anthem. I was wondering about that.

Fans cheering like crazy during the national anthem is somewhat of a Chicago Blackhawks tradition.

Some people consider it to be disrespectful but when I experienced it while attending a Hawks game I thought it was great.

I never thought it was disrespectful at all. They were cheering but "all" of them were standing with their right hands on their hearts. Tons and tons of respect.

Its quite expensive to sit up there. Tried it once it wasnt too bad but its not easy to see the back stretch if you sit in the last row of those seats like I did. Think I paid about $200 or so, got em late.
Are there usually many empties up there that I might be able to just mosey on up to after the race starts?

I've given it a few minutes of thought, and decided cheering is better than just continuing your conversation as if the anthem wasn't being performed at all. I'd probably still stand there saluting, but it's harmless.
