78 FRR is done

I'm sure after all of the millions he and his company poured into that team over the last decade, that extra couple of million dollars (if he gets it) will make him feel MUCH better. This isn't the Dallas Cowboys where you buy the team and the stadium for 140 million and have it be worth a couple of billion 30 years later. Sorry to be snarky, but I just have never seen much value in the charter system. It's only SLIGHTLY better than the old pennies on the dollar team auctions.
your tax dollars at work

Everyone is screaming to contain costs and the current sponsorship model is going the way of the dodo, but what's the answer? I seriously ask because I don't know the finances of it all, but what if NASCAR went to a similar system as other sports leagues like the NFL? Meaning owners are granted franchises (charters), and revenue AS A WHOLE LEAGUE is then divided up amongst the team owners. In other words, the Frances stop getting rich while teams are left to fend for themselves. TV money, advertising as a whole for the sport, etc is divvied up instead of going to NASCAR, ISC, and SMI... I know it's an apples to oranges comparison, but would some variation of this model need to be enacted for the sport to survive long term?

I didnt say it will make him feel better, I stated a fact that he will leave with more then he would have if it didnt exist.

Do you think HMS has a legitimate shot, or is he using them for negotiating leverage with JGR? Would the other teams (HMS, SHR) want him as a "Head of Competition" type role or a CC on one car?

One thing is for sure, he probably could never work under Chad Knaus. Chad is a stickler on the dress code......:D

Champs one year, closing the doors one year later.
Not the first time it's happened though. The Raymond Beadle team closed up shop after the 1990 season after winning the championship with Rusty Wallace in 1989.

It isn't any other sport, it isn't taxpayer funded for one thing.
You’re ignoring the significance of the current champion closing up shop.
You ignore seating areas being removed, ratings tanking, attendance waning, the CEO is on dope and driving drunk...
NASCAR is always going to be there in some form but from a business standpoint this isn’t a positive and NASCAR overall is going backwards.

Yeah, I know that was a different situation, just pointing out that it's not the first time. It was still due to a sponsor leaving though, and I'd say that whole thing occurred a little bit before the boom years.
NASCAR in the modern era has never been this unpopular.

my point also, but it is another topic for the all repetitive deathbedders to say the sky is falling and cry in their beer. It happens all of the time in the racing world.

Bankrupt BK racing sold theirs for2.3 million with many creditors owed. I would imagine Barney will get more than that for his Charter and equipment, much better stuff.

How much stuff does Barney actually own? Sounds like the cars were prepared by JGR (at least the fabrication of them) and engines were supplied by TRD so I can't imagine there was a ton of tooling in those shops. Not even sure if they owned the chassis?

But once again the price comes down to demand and besides GMS I don't think the demand is very high. Look at some of the teams that are currently leasing charters, I can't imagine they're paying much for those

Darlington has found its niche. Close to 80,000 Sunday night including the infield.

HMS is having difficulty securing funding. Ol 7 time even lost his sponsor.
Regardless of whatever words you use to pass off what is happening this is a negative for the sport. Period.

I don't think anybody here doesn't know that, jus sayin, some deathbedders look for any excuse to remind us all. Anybody that even follows the spot casually knows that so, so why do some find pleasure in reminding the rest of us is the key.;)

Well this is balls.

Barney’s team got too good and priced themselves out of the sport. If only they would have let the 18 win more lol.

Its ironic, because money caused this problem and its exactly what NASCAR and the owners saw coming. NASCAR can do everything they can to save these guys money but they will spend it and escalate the speed race regardless of what NASCAR does to help.

What drove the cost so high that FRR decided to hang it up, was it the preacher wanting more? Lots of other teams probably run with less funding.

That's without a doubt a sad day for the sport.
We all know that NASCAR is in a deep crisis, but with the reining champions shutting down, it's probably even worse than I thought it was.
However, this may also be a wake-up-call for NASCAR. They will have to change completely, which considering its' current state, can only make it better.

I receive zero pleasure voicing my opinion when I’d rather see the sport flourish.
We’ve been over it a zillion times about the exact reasons that the sport is losing its fanbase.
I certainly lost interest. I absolutely hate the gimmicks and the constant changes. I hate the Chase, the stages, the playoffs, the eliminations...but what am I going to do? I’m a gear head and I like fast cars. So I’m screwed.
I would much rather be cheering about sellout crowds, no parking, cheap beer, 43 car fields...
The only thing I can talk about is what I see happening. It’s not positive and I can’t help that but I’ve never been good at fooling myself and I’m going to complain if I see something I love dying.

heck of a lot more can be done, already has in the trucks and Xfinity.

and you can't do a thing about it but o complain to anybody and everybody right?, I do feel sorry for your plight, but I sure wouldn't waste my time personally. Life is way too short IMO.
