2018 Indianapolis -- Big Machine Vodka 400 - Pre-Race Thread

I doubt there's any build-up or social buzz that could be mounted at this point that will
  • pull casual fans away from opening weekend of the NFL,
  • for a playoff field that is all but locked in already,
  • for a race that's going to delayed until Monday anyway.
I'll be watching football and tuning into the race during commercials.

3.7 inches of rain?!

Raining at IMS. AccuWeather says 3.7 inches of rain today, 80% chance throughout. Saturday is high 64, 68% chance of rain. Monday is High 70, 40% chance of a stray morning shower. ... Sundown 8:05 (no lights) ... W/overcast, expect well over 90 min to dry track. #nascar

NASCAR moved the Indy date and the rain followed. The BC39 dirt racing was fun to watch. Sadly, I couldn't find any broadcast after the A main.

I don't follow the series, but one car did flip and I noticed what seemed to be a steel tunnel around the drive shaft. I wonder if that was added after Tonys leg took a beating from a separated drive shaft.

looks like since they upped the penalties for failing inspection, many teams are running thru the tent to get a penalty free pre inspection

Sucks that they may have a short week while trying to prep for the first playoff race.

Sounds like maybe late afternoon tomorrow the sky's will clear. Too bad the place doesn't have lights, but tradition and that ****.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive the Chevrolet ZL1 pace car for the Brickyard 400. He is getting a look at the car today. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-41031072-4 …

Was thinking about going to Vegas then looked at the hotel prices (obviously NASCAR still holds some value). Still would like to go regardless of fair weather fans opinions on weather, but holy crap, I'm not sure what they were thinking to begin with running the afternoon races in September.

The Truck race is at night but we’re going to get cooked Sat and Sun.
Bring a lighter in case anyone in front of us is thinking about a sombrero.

I was thinking about bringing mine to be honest... the sombrero of course.

I was trying to think of another race where the Cup cars took the green flag having never turned a single lap leading up to it and could not think of one. Does anybody remember it happening? How about for Xfinity or the trucks?
