racing-forums.com Deathbed - Nascar section

Might need to get the paddles out soon. This place is starting to flatline.

It's a damn shame to watch this section degrade at its present rate. Hopefully it can last the off-season. Browsing here in recent days only gives me a greater appreciation for the job that @TexasRaceLady did all those years.
I agree 100%.

a simple solution would be to move the deathbed thread and the TV rating stuff to either the chit chat section, or the podium. :idunno:

Pretty simple tha
...and politics.
and both of those are politics, racing politics. like the republicans and the democrats. Get them out of the mainstream of the racing threads, they are peripheral topics. Try that, try something.

This place used to be fun. When Paul was the owner, none of these guys who came here getting caught in lies, continuously troll and insult members, tell everyone how "educated" they are, and used several different screen names, would have lasted more than a few posts. Now it seems its the majority of the posters. There were more mods and the place was kept clean.

I disagree with the idea of moving a few unpleasant topics to the Podium. The business of Nascar is an integral part of the sport. TV ratings and attendance are part of what any racing forum has to include. And we all realize the news has been mixed but more negative than positive. No one here pretends not to understand that.

However, most of us don't want to wallow in that 24/7 to the exclusion of all other racing topics. Those few who insist on spewing bile in nearly every active thread should be received harshly. They're not discussing, not informing... they are trolling. There are only a couple.

@fury the ball is in your court, I believe.

Paul was a cool dude.

The idea of a "death bed" thread existing in the first place is bad enough.
on other forums the ratings for all of the motorsports series are in a separate thread that doesn't deal with the racing topics, not in the main body of the forum also, sure works better than this.

Paul was a cool dude.
Yes, but he could also cause a lot of trouble starting senseless arguments. He'd get into a flame war and
send out an SOS to all the mods to come back him up. They got tired of trying to keep the lid on and left.
I guess I was just dumb enough to think I could help keep the place running.
Got tired of asking adults to behave like adults. So I quit.
I made suggestions to fury and Mag. The steering wheel is in their hands now.
But any sane person would turn it down. Maybe I finally came to my senses.

And not just that but every other thread is some moaning about the schedule, the playoff, the stages, the attendance, the car rules, whatever. Bunch of crybabies here that whine about everything. I need to invest in Depends.

There are many things that can be done but the quickest and easiest thing to do is put people that get your goat or offend you on ignore. This is not rocket science but it is quite telling that people would rather piss and moan about things then use the ignore feature.

Yep the deadline for complaining about playoffs existing should of been over 10 years ago.

If a person is sensitive toward things like ratings and attendance why would they visit the TV rating thread? If you didn’t like negative talk about Nascar why would you come to the deathbed thread? Why would you subject yourself to topics and people that rile you up?

Each thread is a different conversation. Why ignore anyone and only see bits and pieces of a thread? Ignoring a persons post is akin to dodging that person. If the serious posters that care about the sport simply ignore the ones who simply want to stir the pot, then what's the point of this forum? Or any forum? The exchange of thoughts and ideas is a good thing. Some people come here to annoy others. Or simply repeat their worn out takes. For me, that gets tiresome. NASCAR has been around for seventy years, it will be around for a long time. Some eras have been better than others. It's in a down turn, I'll gladly wait for the upturn. It ain't rocket science.

I hope you didn’t spend much time thinking of that answer because it is as weak as water. Put me on ignore as a test and see how well it works and how much happier you are. I promise!

Apparently I've never opened the deathbed thread 'cause after I clicked on it I was taken to the first post of the first page.

sweet . . . .

Also, my effort to immediately close it worked like a charm. :dirtbike:

Not many people visited it. It was mainly a few of us talking about negatives concerning Nsscar and one other person that disagreed about Nascar going through hard times.

The only thing I can get out of OP is that its shocking to see how much fall off the forum has had in recent years.

Is that the point of this thread?

I'm plenty happy. I will tell you straight up. My user name has been the same since the day I showed up. I have never felt the need to try to disguise myself with a new identity. That's what you do. Kinda like a person ashamed to show their face. If people with opposing opinions simply ignore the other side, then the other side will have a monopoly. Here's an idea, why don't you ignore me? Maybe you will be happier.

I wasn’t aware of you until a few hours ago and you have given me no reason to ignore you. You seem out of sorts but that doesn’t bother me.

I'm still trying to figure out why anybody would get riled up by something said here in the first place. It's a freakin racing chat forum for God's sake. Who CARES if somebody has a different opinion than you do? At the end of the day none of this matters one iota, so either jump in and sling opinions, sit back and just see what everyone else is saying, or go find something else to do with your time. I don't understand why certain people always want to make things so personal, and I don't understand why people get so worked up when someone DOES make it personal. There are at least two forum members who CLEARLY don't like ME. So what? It doesn't change a damn thing. I say what I want to say and I try to treat people with with respect whether they agree with me or not or whether they like me or not. I try to have conversations with people and not only find out what they think but why they think it, even if I think it's gibberish. If someone has an opinion I disagree with, I try to counter with actual proven facts and or a detailed opinion what I think, not just shout somebody down and tell them they are wrong. To quote one of my favorite characters in a movies series, "Why is this so hard?

I would never put you on ignore EVER! You are a lot of fun and have an interesting way with words at times. That comment last night about evil hearts made me lol over and over again.

I’ll say this once becuse I’ve said it before and made my views known to the mods, even if it didnt make me popular among those in charge.

There are a very small club of members here that make the most noise in efforts to stir the pot. Insulting members both outwardly and passively. Those who have been insulted are generally punished for reacting rather than the original offender, and its allowed for the offenders to run wild from time to time. Contrarians and trolls. It has caused many solid forum members to leave and have their accounts deactivated. Also causes forum lurkers to never sign up for fear of having mud slung at them for their opinions.

Those members were never dealt with and has caused more harm than good to the forum, in my opinion.

There are other nascar and racing related conversation sites that are thriving. My own opinion is that those in charge should visit said sites, take a look at their codes of conduct as well as observe how the moderators herd the cattle, and apply it here. Do what works instead of going against the grain.
