2018-19 Fall/Winter Weather Thread

24 hours ago we were at 60 degrees. 22.5 degrees now and a fresh 3" coating of snow. Just enough to make this afternoon's commute longer than it needed to be.

Weather has been bipolar as anything.

The past two weeks, it's been going from highs in the upper 40s one day to highs in the mid-70s the next to highs in the low 50s the next day. No consistency.

I've lived in the south for six or seven years now and will never get used to these winters. If it's going to be cold, at least stay cold.

Rain tonight and likely on and off all next week. We need it. My grass will be happy.
Not ideal weather for working on cars, though.

More than 30 centimeters now. The most we've had in years.
Rain in the forecast for the next days.

I'm not gonna complain, though. Some regions in Bavaria and Austria have several meters of snow.

Rained so hard last night that it woke me up a few times. Still raining now.
It’s supposed to let up tomorrow but then rain again all next week.
The burn areas are going to slide.

Panic about to set in in the northeast. Milk, bread & toilet paper soon to be in high demand.

Bring it Mother Nature! I need a reason to fire up that dusty snowblower.

Is that a competition? To get the first chair?

The first chair equals first tracks on a powder day, and there is nothing like it. You would have to be a skier or a border to get it I guess. The energy and the buzz you get in the line up on a powder day with the sounds of avalanche bombs going off is epic. People are hooping and hollering with huge grins on there faces. And when that first chair gets loaded, it's officially on, and there are no friends on a powder day. If you got a buddy who might not be as good as yourself, and can't keep up, you tell them I'll see you at the bar at the end of the day.:lol2: ********, I can't wait till tomorrow.:D

Remember: there are no friends on a powder day

Riding with friends is great, but if it’s dumping you must follow your inner Yeti and remember this sacred commandment of the ski bum: there are no friends on a powder day.

As any powder hound will tell you, if you wait for your friends to get their **** together in the morning, the trails will all be tracked out by the time you get your posse rounded up. Fresh pow is a perishable commodity!

I love my friends and there’s certainly nothing wrong with skiing or snowboarding in a group on a powder day. But the adage does capture some mountain wisdom. Powder days often mean slow roads, big traffic delays, long lines, and other obstacles, all of which conspire against a wolfpack converging.

If you wait for your friends to show up, get dressed, put on their boots, buy their ski pass, go to the bathroom, get a snack, readjust their boots, go back to the car — the powder day may be over before it starts!

Damn. I'm glad that I grew up water skiing.

Damn. I'm glad that I grew up water skiing.

Yeah, it's a highly addictive sport, but there's nothing like it. I still get out there and water ski and shred my Kawi 650 single jet ski in the summer, but I would take skiing over any of them in a heartbeat.

The northeast is about to get blasted today. They are calling for 12"-24" in my location. A lot more northeast of me. Stay off the roads and stay safe. Good luck to all of those in its path.

This looks like it could be generator weather. Mine just had a fresh oil change and is full of gas ready to go. I've got 40 more gallons of gas on standby.

29 expected here in the morning. High tomorrow 45.

Now calling for 4-6 of heavy wet snow [heart attack snow]followed by sleet and freezing rain. Also a coastal flood warning issued. Weather genius says maybe more snow depending on how the storm tracks.
Bread and milk are flying off the shelf!

The snow has started here. In addition to the snow, the temp is to drop to 15 degrees tonight. Tomorrow a high of 16. After that it's then supposed to get cold. #hottubweather

We only got a couple of inches of snow last night before it warmed up a bit and we got rain. Another inch or so of rain coming before temps plummet later today. The slushy accumulation is going to freeze, into the 20's before 5, the teens by midnight.. Going to be a ugly mess.

Well, they got the snow totals wrong. We got about 8" of snow last night but due to warmer temps as the storm set in, we got a lot of rain. The temp for drop throughout the night though. Sitting at 14 degrees now with the temp still dropping.

Been skiing for 35 years and can't remember at any time a resort was closed because of lightning. All is good at Kirkwood, except it's raining at 9000 ft. Looks like a good day to stay inside and watch some football.
