Chase Elliott

Chase is a stud. Also keep in mind he’s the #1 driver for Hendrick Motorsports. I think Larson, Erik Jones, and Blaney are pretty close in talent, but Blaney and Erik are 3rd and 4th tier on teams with champions and hall of famers, and Larson is on a second tier team.

What separates Chase from these guys though is that he’s made that next step and is now clutch and can close out races. The floodgates are opening

This.

Chase and his girlfriend, Kaylie Green who is David Green's daughter. They've been together for several years.

I think Blaney is what he is, but Jones is gonna crack open next year I think too.

Jones is the most talented out of all of them imo. Chase is just "better" though. He's smarter, doesn't over drive, reports really well, clutch.. Rev and I talked about this, but he's looking like a JJ light.

The thing that got to me at Watkins Glenn that instead of focusing on Elliott and how he was staying ahead of Truex, the shills in the booth spent there time stroking Turex and not the two in a row factor and what a masterful job Chase was doing. As far as I am concerned Chase proved that on a road course he is right up there with the best of them. Can't believe they downplayed what he accomplished and spent their time talking about second. Qualified front row pole, completely dominated, won all of the stages and the race and we got Truex this and Truex that the whole race. Having a son racing a Toyota? Just about anybody else that had the situation in the past I could deal with it, but papa Burton bias seems way over the line to me anyway. Could be just me, rant over.

That and kybu back in 23rd place passing a backmarker, "AND HERE COMES KYLE BUSCH RACING TO THE FRONT AROUND COREY LAJOIE FOR 23rd PLACE". TV's cost too much nowadays for me to be throwing a BL bottle through it.

Costco usually has some nice deals.

You guys want to hear a funny story/memory?

Just remembered this. I grew up in the 90s, and I HATED Bill Elliot. My dislike of him during my childhood has transitioned to a more tame "not a fan". But after Bill's interview Sunday, I remembered that growing up, I could not stand his voice. I thought he had the most annoying voice I've ever heard in my life. That interview took me back to my childhood.

I was thinking to myself, "look at him, why didn't I like this guy? Oh...that was why". A very ignorant 10 year old Jonathan lol

Idk how many times I heard "Truex dogging Chase" and Truex "turning up the Wick" in that final segment.

It was more like Chase playing catch me if you can all afternoon.

pretty much what I saw, and if Truex would have had to make it a dump job to get around him, it would have looked even worse that Hamlin's. He only got beside Elliott once and that was on a restart and that didn't work as soon as Elliot got up to speed. I don't think Truex wanted what Hamlin got, so the "wall of air"

On that last restart when MTJ was beating on him he said on the radio "why did he door slam me twice? Why don't he just race? He'll give us both a flat tire".

I just don't think Truex could get to him at all.

It is one of the reasons I get a headache listening to the screaming gerbils. I think they get so high hyperventilating, they don't know what the hell is going on. I'm pissed because it was one of the top examples of a driver wheeling a solid axle lumberwagon around a road course, every bit as skillful as Richmond, Gordon, Stewart, Busch, Almendinger, or Ambrose IMO.

I listened to Alan's post race presser and he said that fender was digging into the tire pretty good. I've been wanting to see some close up photos of that portion of the car but haven't found any. There wasn't ever any smoke from what I could tell. Got damn lucky I think, that would've been such a miserable way to end a day like that.

I wish I could repeatedly like this post. The bias was so obvious.

Chase is young.
Chaser is on a solid, well-resourced team.
Chase is winning on different style tracks.
Chase demonstrates discipline, poise, and desire to improve -- he's only going to get better. (imho)

This is the jist of the critical part. There are some charts in there that show how well Chase compares to his peers (very), and even his predecessor Gordon (also favorable) at his age, but to get to the point...

His restarting, measured in the above radar chart by how well he defends position, is simply not up to snuff. When restarting from the preferred groove, he retains position 74 percent of the time, just shy of the series-wide rate; however, his 46 attempts this season from the first seven rows have yielded a net gain of only one position.

Furthermore, his exploits from the non-preferred groove carry the same dynamic — near-average retention (41 percent) and a failure to move forward. In this case, the mitigation of positional loss that is the goal of most drivers restarting from non-preferred groove spots is dooming him. He’s lost 90 positions on 56 attempts, a number tied for the worst total loss in the series, though it comes at a more delicate frequency than Jimmie Johnson’s 90 spots lost on 16 fewer attempts.

In layman’s terms, Elliott is a satisfactory defender of his restart positions who plays practically zero offense.

Fortunately, his struggles are isolated to short runs. He has, despite his frequent losses on restarts, turned in nine races with positive pass differentials in the 17 races this season on non-drafting ovals. Considering his net loss on restarts (minus-89 positions) and his passing net in total (plus-21 positions), it’s clear his ability to sift through traffic on long runs is a plus but wholly dependent on how races break.

In his synopsis, David mentions that another stage break has been discussed...is that news? I'm not sure I've heard that rumored before.

For the time being, his restart ability is in the wilderness, and that’s a serious problem as NASCAR is in the process of making events more competitive. The average number of fully executed restarts per race is down from eight in 2017 to seven this season, but the advent of stages and the potential for adding another stage — it’s been discussed — have placed an emphasis on restarts and increased value on the drivers who restart well relative to their peers. For Elliott, it’s problem that won’t disappear on its own, so he may as well work to improve.

I would have been pissed if I had payed to read that. Nothing new there just twisted a little.

I predicted it was inevitable there would be more the day stages were announced. Does that count? ;)

He drove the heck out of that car to secure the win.

His restart struggles are definitely irritating at times, and it is very Gordon-like. That could be a concern going forward with this particular package where you do make serious hay on restarts, but time will tell. It hasn't cost him any wins this year thankfully.

Less than a cup of coffee a month for every sport I follow, and they have dedicated reporters for most of my teams. Not a bad deal at all.
I follow the Saints and Racing which is easy to keep up with. It's not about the money It's just another service that I don't need.

Welcome to the club, hopefully you'll stick. Please don't be a pretend fan like the guy who always claims to be a Larson fan, but usually just says negative things about him

I’m flattered you think about me :). I saw a gate was wondering where the gate keeper went
