Diversity....what happened in NASCAR?

You weren’t posting about your wife or your daughters. I’m glad to hear you treat them so well.

In the meantime, Bill McAnally’s hauler driver called. He said Haillie Deegan backs the tractor - trailer into all the tight spots because she’s better than he is.
I am surprised you are not still recovering from calling me someone who poorly treats women, because you should be, you're lucky I have a thick skin because most people would be pretty insulted by that. you have no clue who I am. please don't broadly characterize me as something you have no information on. this the problem we have when we get away from someone's pure abilities as a driver. Racing should not be used to make social statements. its survival of the fastest and most talented. if that happens to be a female eskimo so be it. moving away from this is what has given us participation trophies to every kid on the losing soccer team.

Most people aren’t misogynists.

I critiqued your post. You’ll have that here.

why be fixated on this? why be fixated on someones race, sex, national origin as some sort of right to race a car? HERE IS A NOVEL IDEAL, OUTRUN EVERYONE AND YOU WILL GET HIRED. further I would add IMO being a women or someone other than white actually has a better chance of getting noticed if they, let me repeat, OUTRUN EVERYONE ELSE ON THE RACETRACK IN EQUAL EQUIPMENT. The reason no one is racing out and signing deegan is because she drove a mcanally car. The hauler driver could win in it. the K&N series generally has about 5 cars in a given race that are capable of winning. scratch off 1 or 2 because they have trouble during the race. that means if you finish the race in one of those cars you should have a 1in 3 shot at winning. please I beg you understand the series and the environment these people are racing in. who has bought their ride? which cars are capable of winning? How did the driver get to the series? please ask yourself this in evaluating talent and who should be what and where.

the article mentions Natalie decker. all I gotta say is are you kidding me?!? after watching one inteview with her, she sounds like a first year middle school girl. frankly terribly immature. I wouldn't let her drive my go cart. I don't see a bias in nascar, I just don't, in fact I see the opposite. I see women and minorities favored over countless other drivers who would generally run the equipment faster and better. this is a public forum, I have my opinions you have yours and that is ok. I call it how I see it. one last thing, is putting another women in a car and having them fail at the highest level, promote or make it harder for other women coming up attempting to do the same who may actually have the talent to succeed?

Aren't you the same person who said women can't run long distance races because they aren't strong enough and can't stay consistent enough to win championships? (Johanna Long won the 300 lap Snowball Derby; Haley Moody had just won a championship at the time you made that statement.)

Guess I need to enlighten you and banish some of your misogyny ... again.

Danica's "mistake" was her time spent in Europe. She would have been better served staying here with her family. Her experience in Europe wasn't a pleasant one and turned her VERY cold. I'm not talking about the racing. It was being away from home with people that were supposed to have her back but didn't. Would have been MUCH better prepared to race anything if she had stayed here. I believe her lack of camaraderie here was a direct result of getting screwed over by her teammates in Europe. Plus I think her "team" (not SHR/JRM) screwed up moving her to Cup waaaay too soon. Actually...the whole Nascar thing was doomed to fail. Her only racing experience was in pavement open wheel. NOBODY from that background has succeeded in Nascar. Before the JG & Smoke guys come out...they drove sprint cars. She had ZERO experience in anything that wasn't absolutely STUCK to the ground. By the time she got to Cup I think she had given up on actually learning anything. Just take the money and run. Plus the azzholes that kept "accidentally" getting in her LR wrecking her killed every decent run she had. Kasey Khane about killed her while getting lapped. She had at least half dozen top 10 or maybe top 5 runs going and got crashed FROM BEHIND every time. The good ole boys weren't having it.

Pay attention to :50-1:20 then what she says about it later at 2:17-2:42. I know some will say "Richard Petty" or whomever they want to bash but it's a much different time.

No that is not what I have said. you are acting like I am such a hater, what in the world is going on here? I have to ask have you driven a race car? I have and I can tell you running fast laps every lap is hard to do, very hard, what I will say is men and women have unique talents that are particular to each. denying that is ignoring reality, even worse is it mocks and marginalizes those unique talents each sex has. have you ever heard of the term reverse discrimination? its very real and common in our society now days. what I can buy into is whoever runs the car the fastest, a drunk monkey, a green martian, or female eskimo, a male midget, I don't care. In racing that is equality. that is what I seek and like to see.

further if you want to really delve into this, I think certain women in racing have been overlooked and will continue to be who may actually have the best chance at competing because they aren't as marketable as others who have less talent. is that fair to them?

I can't disagree. Villeneuve and the shoe incident as well.

Yes, I have.

Johanna Long - Snowball Derby winner
Danica Patrick - IndyCar race winner
Hailie Deegan - 3 wins in ARCA West
Brittney Zamora - Super Late Model champion

If Deegan can't drive (spoiler alert: she can), this will all sort itself out and she'll be gone soon.

I mean, do you really want to do this, again?

Nobody is doubting those girls ability to drive, but some of us would like to see a woman be a competitive threat to win at the top echelon of stock car racing.

I know that danicas pod cast that she does has her getting in touch with herself more and her feelings more now.

We do have to recognize that "boys not wanting to get beat by a girl" is a thing though

How many woman have had "Top echelon" equipment to complete at the top level? One. She NEVER ran a dirt race or a car with fenders before NXS. So a bit of a disadvantage. Hailie has raced several types of vehicles and is ONLY 18. How old was Danica when she moved to Nascar? I think late 20's?

That's why there are *check notes*

1 African American driver and 0 female drivers in the Cup series.
I am pretty sure I know the criteria for a female driver, but what is the criteria for an African American? How do we know that there are not other African American drivers in the Cup series?

I know of an African american tire changer....NOT a driver.

Bubba Wallace is the only self identified African American driver. I am also 99% sure that he’s the only one with any appreciable AA ancestry.

uh yeah there was a claim of just that. You must have never seen a McAanaly car, even hauler drivers can win in those.

OK...I guess the criteria is it is someone who is self identified. I agree that Bubba would be the only one that appears to meet that requirement. I should probably stop here.

Not probably.

This.
NASCAR should do a "back to the roots" approach to get back it's popularity. Dropping some of the 1.5 miles for southern short tracks would also bring in some new drivers from that region.
They need to cut the season down to 30 races & cars first. They might be able to squeeze 30 cars into the smaller venues. I also think they should eliminate back-up cars. You crash in practice you fix it best you can. The multi car teams could bring two different teams cars in one truck.

Ummmm ok. Did so at Las Vegas & her pole at Sonoma. All very impressive feats. I'm not sure why you think I'm talking her down, I just don't consider the K&N/ARCA series to be the top.

I have bigger expectations for these ladies. Just like Danica was a capable driver to win in Xfinity.

I agree with you. We will continue to see how Deegan does. I don't think she should be in a Truck right now.

Has anyone who's questioning Deegan and Zamora's talent thought maybe Bill McAnally vets his drivers?
oh you mean by who has the check book to pay? that is how the rides are vetted for that team. and it could come from a variety of sources. if its about looking for the best available driver in that series its not hard to find them, lots of former drivers that ran really well in that series but failed to move on to trucks or NXS.

How are rides vetted for other teams?
I don't disagree with that, mostly. since we are talking the west series, the sunrise bruncati teams mostly puts the best drivers in and doesn't pick drivers because of who they are or what money they bring to the table. But their team is a step back from mcanally in equipment. they still win some races buts its more driver talent than just simply having better equipment. but then again what do I know, I do follow that series just a little bit and know one of their drivers. the best driver that has came out of the west series in the last couple of years I feel is noah gragson.

Sorry dude, the ol is it the horse or the rider thing with I know somebody kicker might work for you, but I like to look at the statistics, the results. Deegan had two wins and was 3 points out of finishing second for the year. For someone who just turned 18 had virtually no pavement experience (smoked em at the Vegas dirt track) and the boys better have been glad there weren't more dirt tracks on the schedule, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

you ignored everything I said about the nature of the teams in that series and their makeup. keep doing it, living in la la land. I hope she does well, we will see once the equipment is more equal, because till this point its not been, la la land.

Isn't Suarez a "Diversity" factor?

I couldn't care less about diversity.
Everything should be based on merit.

I'll probably get the real scoop from the hauler drivers. BTW she got a top 5 and 4 top 10's out of 6 starts ( tracks she has never run on) this year in ARCA in a Venturini car. Maybe McAnally slipped a car to her.

He mentioned minorities and the only race you picked out was african american.

remember kyle larson is asain american and daniel suarez is mexican american.

this is not in context to his post, just pointing out some other “minorities” in the cup series that have rightfully earned their spots.
