2021 Silly Season

Uh, is Penske really that far ahead of the 9 and 88 team?
far enough and long enough. One of the main reasons for a driver to want to leave a team would be to win more races. At best it would be a sideways move. From Penske's side he would have to want to have a driver in the spot that was better than Kez is. Where is that dude?

I think so. The Chevy should be kicking ass with the advantage that they have. They are not. Having said that, I don't think that a driver necessarily signs anything solely based on what is in front of him. He signs for what a team can become as well. So, in my opinion the proposition becomes....Does Kez see more potential in Hendrick than Penske? Again, I don't, but they aren't negotiating with me. Of course, a **** ton of money offsets any discussion about potential, etc. LOL.

Exactly. How many wins should Chase have this season if not for ****** luck?

I think Chevy is holding Chase back. As much **** as I sling about him, I think he would have many more wins if he had been in a better car. The ride he is in now is nothing short of a complete disappointment. Given every advantage, and already everybody has caught up. Unreal.

Just spit balling, but move Blaney over to the 2 with Wolfe and there's the dude. Bring Cindric into the 12.

If Kez wants out, then it's possible they've soured on each other. Changing his team environment could be a good thing.

Matt D to Penske and Cindric to the Wood Brothers would be the move, IMO. Cindric hasn’t shown enough at the Xfinity level to warrant a move to a Tier A Cup ride right away, and I’m sure they’d be aware of the optics.

They could run Matt for cheaper and the sponsors like AutoTrader, PPG, Alliance Truck Parts, Discount Tire aren’t particular to Brad. I still find it bewildering Miller is down to 1 race and maybe out of the sport entirely soon.

What a downgrade

This would probably be the most logical.

I was one of the ones thinking Brad would leave, but I think he will stay with Penske. Brad's performance with Bullens has not surprised me. Bullens and Keselowski already had a connection with one another, so that transition on the Cup side was easy to adjust to. They work together very well and I'd like to see them stay

I feel maybe a multi-year deal with an option for 2022? Miller has shifted to advertising on such as twitch, but I think the ads are lame as **** and corny. They like Coors Light are trying to connect with a younger audience.

I maybe biased, but I feel NASCAR fans are some of the best when it comes to using products advertised by corporations.

If Denny goes, Gabehart would have to go with him. Conceivable to me that Denny would bolt with the Driver Development noise all of the time, but it would be hart for me to think that he would leave Gabehart. No way Gabehart goes. Contrary to popular belief, people like to work at JGR. @StandOnIt Make Kenseth reference in 3-2-1.....

Who ever said they didn't? From the people I talked to crew people over the years, it was generally always HMS first , with JGR a close second.

IF Brad leaves Penske, and that's a BIG if as far as I'm concerned, I think it would be more about relationships than just race wins and money. There are few that admire Roger Penske any more than I do, but sometimes people and companies kind of get thrown to the wind in the wake of Roger's moves. He's used to getting his way and he knows how to play hardball. Whether Brad fits into that category, I don't have the slightest idea.

Speaking about Penske's hardball, I think time is on Penske's side when negotiating a new contract. The longer he waits, the less opportunities there are for Brad to go to another team as other teams have already made their deals with their driver lineup. Pretty important if you may be trying to get him under contract for less money than he was getting.

Nothing harder on a relationship when you were worth 10 million, and now your boss is thinking more like what....3-5?

I guess the question would be whether anyone else can afford to pay him any more than that, of course sometimes its an easier pill to swallow to take less from someone other than the person who cut you off.......

I agree. As usual I think Roger is holding most of the cards. For practical reasons, he's got more solid options than Brad does.

Well, yeah, and that is obviously how the sport is trending. May have started with Matt Kenseth at JGR.... @StandOnIt in 3-2-1.....

Penske hasn't been B.S.ing the "he's family" line so there is no two facing there. Probably why Penske is so successful and the other is a Toyota lackey.

Gibbs is not a successful NASCAR team owner?

Does he? I mean really what are his options? Cindric or Dibenedetto? You would rather have them in the car than Brad?

Actually I think Brad holds more cards in this one. His only real competition was Larson and he's not really an option anymore. Bowman is signed. I guess Jones, but again who has the proven track record? JGR booted Kenseth for him and that hasn't really panned out.

Who you going to get that's proven that would be as good in the car? At least Brad has the leverage of well HMS is offering this or possibly even CGR

I guess what I mean is there are several good or potentially good drivers who would give their left you know what to jump in that 2 car. How many realistic landing spots does Kez have that aren't real downgrades? No, none of them are Cup champions, but look at who Kenseth got replaced with. I personally wouldn't hesitate to put Matty D in the 2 if necessary. Would there be some growing pains? Sure, but I think the performance gap would close pretty quickly. Remember it took a while for Brad to get hot when he joined Penske, and then he went on a run . Granted Brad had a win going in, but Matt has much more Cup experience than Brad had.

Is there any evidence either of those organizations are interested in him? I miss a lot so I may have overlooked it, but all I remember seeing so far is a lot of unsupported speculation and pipe dreams.

I like CGR but at this time they're at least a half-step down from Penske.

I don't have any evidence on either, but BOTH would be crazy not to want him. Who else could Hendrick hire that is even in Brad's league? Besides they have history, even though it didn't end very well. IN CGR's case, who knows if the 42 seat is actually open for discussion, but if they have a spot open, they should be trying to get him. I think the BIGGER question is does BRAD have any interest in HMS and CGR?

Rick has said more than once that letting Brad go was a mistake that he plans on correcting.

The lackey did pretty good last year.

Do you believe that Kez will maintain his current salary? .....Whatever that is?
WTF man?

You're the guy citing numbers, not me. You posted that Penske is offering Kez $3-5 million compared to the $10 million he's been making. And SOI countered that Penske may be hoping to renew Brad at his current cost, but Kez is seeking more. I asked both of ya where you're getting your info. And you didn't answer, so I guess David Wilson is whispering in your ear again..:idunno:

The one thing I know is that Brad doesn't need any financial help from me. He's been making $10-12 million per year since 2012, according to the widely-respected annual Forbes estimates. He's over $100 million cumulative gross, he's in his prime, and he's got 5-7 good years ahead if typical aging curves happen. The kid from a hardscrabble blue collar family in Detroit has done OK.

Unknot the panties....I was offering a hypothetical. Brad would be an idiot to not jump all over an offer consistent with his current one. I can't see that happening anywhere. So, my point was that relationships go out the window if you are struggling to accept that your services have been devalued with the current climate that includes that little global pandemic and significant losses throughout the industry. If this was about relationships as you so lovingly suggested, the deal would have been done by now IMO....we saw that with the Kenseth....Asking 10 million or whatever, and JGR had a better deal with a younger driver. @StandOnIt reference to Coach and his "family" quote in 3-2-1....

Relationships are a part of it, but at the end of the day its still business.

It would be hard to Brad to jump ship. He's had nothing but success with Penske and has been instrumental at being the cog in building Penske to the powerhouse it is in NASCAR now. I think he could move, but I doubt it. Especially with how he has been performing, I doubt he leaves because I feel as if the move with Bullens was a huge deal in his staying. Now two wins in, I can see him staying long-term. Penske also slid some of Blaney's (Dent Wizard, PPG) sponsors over to the 2 car because Molson-Coors (Miller) was a primary for one race and an associate for every other race.

It's more than just Brad himself, its the sponsors as well. All has to be in line before signing on that dotted line, we'll see if he stays or not. Penske does not play when it comes to sponsors, it was the reason why Blaney took so long to step up to Cup.

Anyone think that the brickyard 400 might be an audition for a possible replacement for the 48?

I mean maybe? could be a hold off if they don't like other options? idek

JHN would be interesting, but with Harvick getting older, Newman is as well. Ford would be crazy to let JHN walk, but OTOH, I wonder if Chevy has a clause similar to what Buescher had with Ford to get in the 17 car?

Reddick is staying put, RCR would be insane to let him walk.
