Superstar Racing Experience

I'd like to see a mix of guys with dirt and pavement backgrounds and other styles as well like get Ron Capps out there with them.

1. Jeff Gordon
2. Dale Earnhardt Jr
3. 7 time
4. Tyler Reddick
5. Josef Newgarden
6. Felix Rosenquist
7. David Gravel
8. Brad Sweet
9. Kyle Larson
10. Sebastian Vettel
11. Kimi Rakkionen (SP)

SRX could not identify the drivers or crew chiefs it expects to compete next summer. But with just 12 drivers per race, it expects to have its pick of well-known crew chiefs and drivers, both active and retired. The series will randomly pair teams, grouping an up-and-comer with veterans. As for active drivers, the startup would have to work around other series schedules and any rules that could prevent those drivers from competing.

Sounds like something for oldheads really. I’m not sure how realistic it is to acquire active full-time drivers considering everyone is in full swing over the summer and “scheduling around” series would be difficult to do on a large scale. Six races over summer is a pretty condensed calendar.

They mentioned some interesting tracks though and an OTA TV deal with CBS is pretty significant so maybe it has some legs to it. It could be interesting to check out depending on who they sign as drivers.

Don't believe they have said anything about having 6 full time drivers. What Evernham HAS said is that there is going to be a generic type car to supercede limitations that some drivers have about driving different brands of race cars. I think Stewart and Evernham are a bit smarter about what they are doing than some seem to give them credit for. Both have learned from the mistakes made with the IROC series when they participated and what worked.

Most of those guys had no right to even be on a track with other people. The thing to remember is that the retired drivers of this era are significantly younger than before. Guys are retiring now because they're financially set.

Look at guys like JR and the Biffle they come back and run very competitive

crap. I forgot Mark Martin. and Carl Edwards, but I would think they'd slam the door shut on coming back for anything. Might be wrong.

not sure i am really interested in more reality programming using famous names to sell a product.

i would much rather see tony take on 11 other stars from whatever type of car they are racing, like he has when he has driven in authentic short track events.

I dunno, I'm not particularly excited about an IROC like series. Maybe if they allow set-up adjustment & put in place real elimination style heat races, I'd be interested.

My idea for the grassroots/best-of-the-best combo that Tony is going for is this-

Get Tony and 11 other guys in some nice Super Late Models. Go to short tracks around the country. Have the dozen "touring" superstars locked into an A-main, and have 12 local guys try to make the feature via heats/consis. THAT would be a show.

I say this because my hometrack, Stafford Motor Speedway here in CT immediately tweeted out to Tony and Ray Everham after this news broke asking for a race date. It very well could happen. The Arute family owns the track, Ray Everham comes to the track (I've gotten his autograph and he's raced vintage cars here), and it's the definitive premier asphalt short-track in the Northeast (and certainly in conversations on best weekly racing program at the national level). But anyway...I asked myself if I would be interested in going and it's tough to say. Seeing superstars on your local track is amazing, but it's watching how they fair against the hometown drivers you see week-after-week that REALLY what makes a show (from a short track fan's perspective at least).

Like the article says too, the cars sucked and were not set up for the track. I remember the attempt and watched it some but then lost interest. This whole idea made me remember it. I also seem to remember some retired racers (Cale being one) that were looking to develop a series where teams represented cities? It never got past the concept stage.....

12 reasonably close to equal cars should be raced by 12 reasonably equally-skilled drivers, no?

This could be a way for iRacing "professionals" to get a shot inside a real car...I envision this being the easiest way for a real iRacing series. Have that be a feeder series for SRX

I meant if they are pursuing appearances from "active" drivers most guys will have full-time commitments and busy race schedules over the summer so that driver pool may not be that big. Retirees and part-timers from various series, I can see. It could be a good opportunity for someone like Larson if he doesn't commit to one particular championship next year.
