SRX could not identify the drivers or crew chiefs it expects to compete next summer. But with just 12 drivers per race, it expects to have its pick of well-known crew chiefs and drivers, both active and retired. The series will randomly pair teams, grouping an up-and-comer with veterans. As for active drivers, the startup would have to work around other series schedules and any rules that could prevent those drivers from competing.
why?
Don't believe they have said anything about having 6 full time drivers. What Evernham HAS said is that there is going to be a generic type car to supercede limitations that some drivers have about driving different brands of race cars. I think Stewart and Evernham are a bit smarter about what they are doing than some seem to give them credit for. Both have learned from the mistakes made with the IROC series when they participated and what worked.Sounds like something for oldheads really. I’m not sure how realistic it is to acquire active full-time drivers considering everyone is in full swing over the summer and “scheduling around” series would be difficult to do on a large scale. Six races over summer is a pretty condensed calendar.
They mentioned some interesting tracks though and an OTA TV deal with CBS is pretty significant so maybe it has some legs to it. It could be interesting to check out depending on who they sign as drivers.
crap. I forgot Mark Martin. and Carl Edwards, but I would think they'd slam the door shut on coming back for anything. Might be wrong.1. Jeff Gordon
2. Dale Earnhardt Jr
3. 7 time
4. Tyler Reddick
5. Josef Newgarden
6. Felix Rosenquist
7. David Gravel
8. Brad Sweet
9. Kyle Larson
10. Sebastian Vettel
11. Kimi Rakkionen (SP)
Someone call Trevor Bayne. We gotta get Danica Patrick a ride!
We gotta get Danica Patrick a ride!
If they can land those two, they won’t need Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.Someone call Trevor Bayne.
If Carl Edwards doesn't participate I'm just giving up.
Just asking? Was another series that was given a serious go but didn’t make it. Am I not allowed to ask a question? Add to the conversation? Remember some history?why?
oh that was a question.Just asking? Was another series that was given a serious go but didn’t make it. Am I not allowed to ask a question? Add to the conversation? Remember some history?
Yeah I guess a “?” would be needed for some......oh that was a question.
Like the article says too, the cars sucked and were not set up for the track. I remember the attempt and watched it some but then lost interest. This whole idea made me remember it. I also seem to remember some retired racers (Cale being one) that were looking to develop a series where teams represented cities? It never got past the concept stage.....Most of those guys had no right to even be on a track with other people. The thing to remember is that the retired drivers of this era are significantly younger than before. Guys are retiring now because they're financially set.
Look at guys like JR and the Biffle they come back and run very competitive
I meant if they are pursuing appearances from "active" drivers most guys will have full-time commitments and busy race schedules over the summer so that driver pool may not be that big. Retirees and part-timers from various series, I can see. It could be a good opportunity for someone like Larson if he doesn't commit to one particular championship next year.Don't believe they have said anything about having 6 full time drivers. What Evernham HAS said is that there is going to be a generic type car to supercede limitations that some drivers have about driving different brands of race cars.
