Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

That's part of the fun of talking about it weeks or years later. It's not part of the fun at the time.

I do wonder how many of the people complaining about Atlanta in July also screamed Darlington had to be returned to Labor Day and want Daytona moved back to Independence Day. :blink:

I'm just telling you what I see a lot of people complain about, and what keeps me from going to these races in Atlanta. I've seen plenty of people say they go if it was some place better on the schedule.

I've been to the Chicagoland July races in the early life of the track....... super hot. The NHRA races in early to mid June at the drag strip across the street also hot. I've been to Kentucky in July, Daytona July race and the Rolex 24 at 11pm at night when its really cold. I'm not throwing down my race fan card, sorry dont mean to come off like that but I love racing so the weather wouldnt bother me much, maybe more so a bit as I've gotten older but.... if I got the chance to go to a Southern 500 Im crazy enough to go even if it was during the day. Sometimes going to a Major or crown jewel race is just worth it, weather be damned. Just me personally but I'd like to go to the July Atlanta race, maybe id have a shot of going to a Braves game too.

This. I only get a couple of opportunities to see a race each year, even fewer now that Dad is too old to go and share driving duties with me. I'm not passing those chances up due to weather. It may not be the conditions I want, but I'll be there.

I remember awhile back they released that image of a redevelopment and everyone pointed out the track was missing the doglegs
 
Somebody may have already mentioned, sorry haven't read every comment, but the irony of Nascar trucks snd xfinity ditching Nashville in 2011 while granting Kentucky a cup race back then and now things have reversed. Never, ever, ever thought I'd see a cup race at the "new" Nashville track. Life is good!!

I've been reading some of the critical comments on here especially concerning the bristol dirt race and I'm thinking damn, this ain't gonna be any good. What a bummer. I needed some positivity so I resubscribed recently and listened to the xm pundits on channel 90. Chocolate Meyers has got me to thinking I need to go see the Bristol dirt race in person. It's going to be one of two things. Really good or really bad. And probably not anything in between. But I always said I've never seen a bad race in person. After all we went to Kentucky several times and enjoyed the heck out of it, and when we watch it on TV we usually take naps lol. I watched an old video of the outlaws race at Bristol on dirt and it looked wild. I know it's different cars but still. So I'm real excited about the new schedule, all of it, and cannot wait to see what the new generation race cars bring in 2022 either.

Since Texas, Charlotte and Atlanta are all very similar looking I could see Bruton messing with the tri-oval/dogleg area. That main seating area is not going to be rebuilt again so they'd keep the track design with that in mind. I could see anything from a 1.5 mile Michiganish track to a little bigger Rockingham? Who knows at this point...lol. Bruton's liable to have two off camber turns and a chicane.

Thats my view on Bristol I want to see it to say either I was at the first one or I was at the only one. Plus I love dirt

Yes! I can't believe all the negativity regarding this change. I've always said the cup cars should run (at least) a couple of dirt races every year just to keep them honest.

I love dirt. I first saw midgets on an old fairground track starting about age six, then USAC sprinters at Eldora when I was ten and soon after that real stock cars on dirt, '56 Fords and '57 Chevys. All oval series should run some dirt IMO, it separates the men from the boys.
 
I love dirt racing exponentially more than NASCAR racing. My favorite NASCAR series of all time is the NASCAR Busch All-Star Tour dirt late model series that I grew up watching tour Midwest dirt tracks.

I'm intrigued by what they are doing, and enthused by what it says about the renewed popularity of dirt racing. I'm also aware of how many difficult aspects are in play with making the event a success the first time out, because there isn't going to be a lot of patience when the alternative is paved Bristol. It will be a considerable achievement if they do.

I don’t understand why people think it’s going to be a bad race. The trucks at Eldora always put on a hell of a show. Some of the best NASCAR races I’ve ever attended were the trucks at Eldora. Now imagine the absolute best out there with high banking? Should be terrific!

I can't stand The Morning Drive on NASCAR Radio, but they did a poll, and like 80% of the respondents (I think 3,000 or so) hated the idea of Bristol on dirt. I wonder if there is anyway to truly capture the voice of the NASCAR fan? ....and just what the hell does that voice say? I am lost anymore on what this series wants to be, and what its fans truly want.
 
Would they use the high hp or low hp setup? It's a short track but 750 hp on dirt seems a bit excessive.
 
I know a LOT of folks in my hometown that have a very low opinion of modern day Nascar but were huge fans back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. And I know one race that gets a LOT of them excited and many would say is the only Nascar race worth watching all year long is Eldora. Why is it such a bad thing for cup to run one measly race a year on dirt which is back to the sport's roots? I've heard Moody's argument in the afternoon a 1,000 times that a cup race on dirt makes Eldora not as special anymore. I disagree. I think as long as the weather holds up this dirt Bristol race ought to be a pretty decent show. The weather seems like the only thing here that coukd really derail it.

What they need are a couple of bill boards bolted on to the front and back for ...wait for it...downforce, and rear tires about twice as wide as they have, and they still won't be as fast. It is what it is, it won't be a speedathon, but it should be interesting. Can't wait for some of the driver's comments, one in particular. :laugh:

They are gonna need forward bite and mechanical grip on these lead sleds lol. Hope fully NASCAR will let them go on a diet

There is few things I hate more than a dirt late model. Probably the all time ugliest car ever put on a track. They make a CoT look like a work of art. It's a damn door stop with an odd looking turret on top, and it drive me nuts to watch the left rear of the body try to peel itself right off the chassis.
 
I kinda think it could be a brilliant move. They tout Bristol as being a rough and tumble wild fender banging race..and it mostly never happens. The odds are much better of that happening with some dirt thrown down.

It's not for everyone. They do look silly and are the ultimate twisted sister car. That's because they aren't pretending to be a grocery hauler or anything other than a car that turns left on ovals. Beyond the cosmetics, the racing is excellent.

That's a pretty apt description of it. I don't think there is any worry of a cup car morphing into something like them

If you say so. I never saw anything that kept me tuned in for more than five minutes.
 
Something that would never happen, but I would watch a two or three race card with Sprints, midgets, and Cup cars racing the same day at Bristol..As long as they are going to all of the trouble to haul in the dirt

I think there is likely to be a sprint car race the week before or after, and a decent chance of a late model race for you to ignore ;), as that is definitely late model country down there.
