I'm reminded of the early MTV era when all the pop music acts insisted on having a connection to pro rasslin'. Capt. Lou and Roddy Piper were everywhere.

"... now we’re going to show the world NASCAR is not only a sport but it’s a culture."

Sounds like the edgy Monster lifestyle all over again. But I know nothing of this guy's following. I guess he can't do any harm, or attract any fewer new fans than Pastrana did.

Awesome! Pitbull is in the house. I hope he brings some of the pit dancers with him. This could open up a whole new level of fan base. :jamming:  :)

I'm wondering how much of an ownership stake he has? Maybe I'm wrong but when someone references being a fan since the movie "Days of Thunder" I don't take a lot of stock in them being a true fan of the sport...

Barely heard of him, wouldn't recognize him if he was sitting in my office. It IS a him, right? Who was the last entertainer to get involved in auto racing and stay more than five minutes? David Letterman?

Pitbull was 9 years old when DOT was released. This logic is awful. That movie is older than me. I guess I’m not a true fan either. Piss off.

Where's the deathbed thread at these days?

I found it Andy, it's right here (and it's never far away)...

Why would I expect anything less than you taking that comment out of context.......
Your expectations are of no concern to me.

Your stupid remark was sexist, plain and simple. Maybe take that and your political "insight" and park that stuff somewhere else.

Honestly, I only know of Pitbull through the memes, I've never really listened to his music.

Get ready folks, the influx of new owners and the new car may lead to NASCAR boom #2. Probably not as big as the first but maybe we can sell out the "re-sized" facilities.

There are a lot of things to be excited about, especially with the road courses and NASCAR eyeing new markets, looking at short tracks like Nashville, and even street courses.

I still hate stage racing and the playoffs, but aside from those things, there's a lot to be excited about.

If I have his identity correct, I know him only from an ad for an alcohol delivery system, and I usually muted it.

If somebody with money to burn wants to reduce his net wealth, more power to him. Whether he'll have an impact remains to be seen. If he brings fans, fine. At this point, to me he's just another owner of another bottom-tier team. What he does away from the track or how he made his money doesn't interest me more than any other owner.

I'm sorry but I take notice when someone says yeah I loved watching the 43 or I was a huge fan or Dale sr or I remember such and such race as a kid. Not mentioning a movie that loosely depicts the sport. That's like me saying I'm a huge fan of football because I liked the movie Rudy...

Yeah I just never have followed very closely the comings and goings of lower tier teams. I get interested when they do something like Kaulig for example. Moving up the food chain can be done, but they are few and far between.

I don't see this level of cynicism from fans of other sports I follow. It was the same thing with Jordan and 23XI. Even if Pitbull owns a tiny sliver of Trackhouse, that's still capital and it's coming from a big name. When Jay-Z had a small stake in the Brooklyn Nets basketball fans thought it was cool. No "well akshually it's only x amount", fans just appreciated the involvement. A lot of high profile celebrities just throw some money at stuff they think is fun, and it gives a nonzero amount of exposure to the sport. It's a win win all around.

Some of it is cultural gatekeeping. Not all of it, but the most ardently pessimistic. If it were a somewhat successful country singer worth a fraction of the $100 million that Pitbull is, they wouldn't be quite as protective of turf they don't own.

prepare thy self to hear "fireball" a couple times this season

Funny you say that because the movies "Cars" and "Herbie Fully Loaded" didn't introduce me to the NASCAR per se but they definitely increased the amount of real estate it held in my little 6 year old brain. One thing leads to another and before you know it I'm enough of a fan to spend time out of my day on an obscure online forum discussing NASCAR. Really not sure why you make it out to be so improbable.

There are plenty of fans of the sport that found their love in various outlets.

I’m happy they are making noise. The day it goes quiet is when we’re really in trouble.

What difference does it make what attracts someone to a form of entertainment? Isn't what he or she has picked up since then that matters more?

I've got to get around to looking at that film one day ...

Honestly if that were the case, the story wouldnt even make the rounds.

Actor Patrick Dempsey drove for his own GTD team for several years in the late '00s and early '10s. Before that, NFL coach Jerry Glanville ran part-time in the Truck series.

But yeah, celebs who get into the sport and make any impact are rare. See any number of NFL QBs.

Would that be one of his tunes? Seriously, what genre of music does this guy make? If I like Jimmy Buffett, Meat Loaf, and Weird Al, would I like him?

It is. Pitbull has done a lot of pre-race performances and been around nascar quite a bit in a variety of ways. So he is a really good addition to nascar with the reach that he has as a celebrity outside of that. These are the best type's of co-owner's to bring into an ownership stake, because they obviously already like and enjoy the sport, and they bring an additional element to the table of drawing in even more fan's.

oh and Popular hip hop I would say. if Jimmy Buffet... prob not
