is there a list of who is locked in? the road course is going to be fun. the teams will have to bring alot of cars, two road races and the 500

I'm not sure, but apparently Tony Stewart requested entry as a driver, and NASCAR ignored him
The criteria for entry is based on 2020 season accomplishments. Tony is just whining again.

  • 2020 Busch Pole Award winners
  • Past Busch Clash winners who competed full-time in 2020
  • DAYTONA 500 champions who competed full-time in 2020
  • Former DAYTONA 500 Busch Pole winners who competed full-time in 2020
  • 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff drivers
  • 2020 NASCAR Cup Series race winners
  • 2020 NASCAR Cup Series stage winners

Wouldn't it have been easier to just say "Everybody but Spire and RWR."?

The eligibility requirements include: 2020 Busch Pole Award winners; "past Busch Clash winners", Daytona 500 race winners, and Daytona 500 pole winners who ran full time in 2020; 2020 NASCAR Cup Series playoff drivers; 2020 NASCAR Cup Series race winners; and 2020 NASCAR Cup Series stage winners.

Stewart won the Busch Clash in 2001 and 2002

Notice the positions of the commas and semicolons.

"2020 Busch Pole Award winners; past Busch Clash winners, Daytona 500 race winners, and Daytona 500 pole winners who ran full time in 2020; "

"... who ran full time in 2020;" applies to the three comma-separated clauses that precede it.

Honestly tho. It’s an exhibition race. I say screw it still. Not like it truly matters or anything.

I’d love if they did an exhibition race, and had some rules like that, but also opened it up to retired racers.

Here is how it was written originally, I had highlighted the "past Busch clash winners" Seems to me it would have said winner singular for what you are saying. There is an s after winner.

Yep. Noticed how semicolons separate "2020 Busch Pole Award winners;" from "past Busch Clash winners, Daytona 500 race winners, and Daytona 500 pole winners who ran full time in 2020;" from "2020 NASCAR Cup Series playoff drivers;",

Also notice how there are commas, not semicolons between " past Busch Clash winners, Daytona 500 race winners, and Daytona 500 pole winners who ran full time in 2020;"

" ...who ran full time in 2020;" applies to each individual clause in "... past Busch Clash winners, Daytona 500 race winners, and Daytona 500 pole winners ...". If 'ran full time in 2020" wasn't supposed to apply to "past Busch Clash winners", that clause would have ended in a semicolon instead of a comma.

Tony isn't a past Clash winner who ran full time in 2020, so he's not eligible.

Truth be told tho, and I say this as a fan of Dale Jr. if he wanted to race it, they very likely would bend the rules for him and allow it.

If you're going down that path, you might as well assume Dale would have been active in 2020 and have been eligible without having to ask.

Indeed, you assume Dale in 2021 would have been interested. His option to limit his participation in recent years says otherwise. As I noted, I think the only reason Tony is interested in 2021 is because the road course will be used. He hasn't asked about running this race since his retirement.

yeah it wouldn't matter what the rules are, Nascar already had a rule made so Jr. could run the All Star races as long as he was in the series. It's bad business to keep any past champion or retired driver for that matter out of the series for a race that isn't for points IMO. This really looks petty to me about Stewart, but you never know what Stewart might have said either

I meant if everything played out how it did for Jr, and he asked. He would’ve very likely been allowed.

I honestly just don’t see the problem here, I mean it’s not like it truly matters at this point. 2020 was a **** show of a year. Just open the flood gates for 2021, let them do things differently and have a fun little exhibition race.

I'm just clarifying the rule; I'm not justifying its necessity, or the lack thereof.

I'm not a fan of exhibition races in the first place, either this one or the so-called "All-Star". If it was my call, this race wouldn't exist for Tony to ask about.

This was written for the 2019 race. Much clearer, better written

The Clash is limited to drivers who were 2018 Busch Pole Award winners, former Clash winners who competed fulltime in 2018, former Daytona 500 champions who competed fulltime in 2018, former Daytona 500 pole winners who competed fulltime in 2018 and drivers who qualified for the 2018 Cup Series playoffs.

The 2019 version is also better in that it doesn't include the previous season's stage winners. That pretty much lets in everyone except Brendan Gaughan and most of the hauler drivers.

That is the good part of controversal stages, the mini races that sometimes occur for that win. Does the good outweigh the bad?

It should become the all-star race IMO. Allow everyone to participate including retired drivers, but have 10 lap qualifying/elimination races prior to the main event. Plus a longer clash means more air time for us to get used to the new drivers, sponsors, teams, etc

I understand each individual word; it's the 'good part of ... stages' that doesn't make any sense.
There are more than one component to the stages if that helps. There are points that a driver can race for, a pit stop that teams can use for strategy. Fans get to watch rarely but yeah get to watch some hard racing for stage wins that before the stages, the middle of the race mostly was drivers playing follow the leader under the old way. I'm sure you can fill in the rest of the blanks with what really twists some racing fans off, ya know gets their goat at full bleep.

Notice the commas, they all fall under the "ran full time in 2020" requirement.

Reading comprehension, dude.

Ah, I didn't make myself clear again. The snarky comment was intended to convey my opinion that there's =nothing= good about stages. I apologize for my lack of clarity.

Tony would probably have a better chance to beat Chase Elliott on a road course than any current drivers if he was allowed.

Perhaps he should just enter the points paying race there as a one off instead of the Clash.
