Chase Elliott

I like Chase, but don't see how anyone but Larson should win this award for 2021. I assume Larson's narrative doesn't fit the bill for ESPN though.
Even though I like Chase I definitely agree with you. This is more of a popularity award then it is a best driver award. imo

It's for the 2020 season, but yeah. Also, if it is for 2021, Max Verstappen would like a word. What he has done is, imho, more impressive than Larson's streak.

ESPN has fully jumped the shark IMO. When Stephen A went on a tangent about white privilege because Steve Nash became coach of the Nets & Brad Stevens became GM of the Celtics I was done man. The whole MAGA bull crap was absolutely annoying and thank God that has subsided quite a bit, now we just need that woke bologna to fade as well. People just need to be nicer to each other is all

ESPN has been trash for years. Half of the headlines on their website are political (some shot put lady, who nobody ever heard of, looked away from the flag during an Olympic ceremony, OHHHH so interesting!!!) or off-the-field drama regarding legal matters (some assistant NHL coach might have been accused of sexual misconduct with an intern back in 2007! How riveting!!!!)

I used to LOVE watching ESPN back in the day when it was actually about sports. Now it's just a bunch of hot take BS without any depth or real journalism. I haven't even watched Sportscenter in over a decade.

That is exactly how I am with late night talk shows. I have no use for them anymore. They are more about politics and the so called comedian hosts are not funny at all. I haven't seen a funny one since Leno.

ESPN does not follow motorsports as in depth as it used to.

I'm fine with Chase because his name on a mainstream level is more known than a Kyle Larson.

Is there ANYONE that gives a crap about the ESPY award? Even when I was a multi-sport following nut I could have cared less. I wouldn't walk across the street to see it, even if Chase was there in person to accept the award.

This is for 2020.

Shhhhh. The hive mind has spoken. All hail our overlord Larson, blessed be his name. He is the almightiest to have ever held a wheel. Shalom and amen.
I did read the link and I guess I missed that the award was for 2020.

It's your choice Dr B UNC as a race fan to not appreciate what Larson has been accomplishing. I am sure there were members in your camp back in AJ Foyts heyday too.

OMG....Are you Hendrick kids eating each other now? Good. That means I can take a nap.

I've stated MANY times that I'm an Elliott fan, NOT HMS.

In fact, I prefer it to be like the last couple years: HMS struggling a tad but Chase doing really well in spite of them. I think he laid the foundation for the success they're having in the playoff run and now the other three are all benefitting.

I appreciate what he's doing. I tip my cap. I am a little sick of the hyperbole and hype, but that's another story.

Whatcha got against HMS if I might ask?

If I have to guess, you’re gonna figure out that not being a fan of somebody or some entire organization doesn’t mean that they are also against it.

Have you talked to @StandOnIt about this? If I had to guess, I'd say not. Perhaps I should have DM'ed @Dr_B_UNC..... Oh well, since more are part of this quick question than I had anticipated, I will play and adjust my words....Why... @Dr_B_UNC ... are you a Chase Elliott fan and not necessarily a fan of the organization of which he is a part of, gave him his start, and provides him with the critical support necessary in order to be a champion?

I don’t see why this matters?
I believe that my friend is the very antithesis of your assertion of what I am about to figure out. Thus, he might be in need of your counsel as well.

I LOATHED them in the Jeff Gordon era. Then it continued into the Johnson dominance. I was a Bill Elliott fan, then when Bill was ebbing I went to Jeff and Ward Burton, who I watched come up through late models as a kid. When Jeff Burton was on the verge of greatness and possibly a title, that was when Gordon surged and you just couldn't beat HMS. So, it was frustration mainly. They were "the enemy." Much as HMS or Penske (depending on time) is the enemy for you because they're in the way of TRD and JGR. Make sense?

Fair questions, all. I guess I'm just from the old mold of fandom. In the 80's, you pulled for a driver and maybe had a manufacturer lean. My dad always liked Fords, so I pulled for Bill Elliott and then another Ford to win. Anybody but effing Earnhardt or Waltrip back then! With the rise of multicar teams, it seems we've been conditioned to pull for the entire organization. That's not me. I'm weird I guess. I'm a UNC alum. Come March Madness, I pull for UNC. if they're eliminated, I couldn't give two damns about other ACC teams. In fact, I want them to lose as well so we went the farthest out of the league. I'm petty. Same with HMS. If Chase finishes 2nd, I'd rather it be to JGR or Penske than Larson, Bowman, or Byron. I'd rather run 10th and be the first HMS car (which happened a lot the last 3 years) than run second but to Larson. Again, I'm petty.

I have no manufacturer loyalty, because the brands I drive the most and are loyal to are not in NASCAR.

Thinking that throwing shade on Larson and not catching any heat is as nuts as mentioning Elliott in the same vein. Them's going to be fighting words about anywhere you go in Nascar world. I follow the Okie C.Bell, but I sure as hell aren't naive enough to publicize it around here.

I guess I've just never understood how admitting that I don't pull for Larson and really don't like him is "throwing shade." It is what it is I guess. I just made the mistake of hitching my wagon to the most popular driver, which in turn means hordes of jackass fans that annoy people and cause a backlash. I get it.

Try yelling at the top of your lungs that you hate Larson at the next Nascar race you go to then. Stand up for your right for free speech. ;) I think it works much better behind a keyboard

Props to @Dr_B_UNC even though I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. I'm a Gordon fan, Hendrick fan, Chevrolet fan, Chase Elliott fan. All of the above.

That being said, I understand your point about UNC and rooting against the rest of the ACC. I get that. As a diehard Florida Gators fan, I can't ****** stand Georgia and LSU and Alabama and Auburn, etc. **** the conference, I just want MY team to succeed. I have never understood the fans that want to see their rivals do well "for the sake of the conference" or whatever.

That being said, racing is different. When I was a hardcore Gordon fan, Terry Labonte and Kenny Schrader were my other favorites. And as a Chase fan, I pull for Bowman and the other HMS guys. I guess it helps when your favorite team hires likeable drivers.
