Asked whether the radio message regarding O’Donnell was about the tires, Busch doubled down.

“No, the package,” Busch said. “Every time you run somebody down, then they accordion you backwards, and then you run them down, and then they accordion backwards. It’s terrible. It’s a joke. But sign me up for more, I guess.”

If nascar doesn’t change the rules package soon I don’t see Busch hanging around much longer. He doesn’t seem to be having fun like he used to.

You are probably right about the not having fun, but I'm sure he likes the big fat checks he cashes and his wife probably does too...so that may override his feelings.
 
He's right, he's been right. Harvick was right when he was critical. Stewart too, Edwards as well, all of them. Underpowered foot to the floor racing is awful. Always has been, always will be, there is no nuance to it.

What gets me is that this applies to the superspeedways too, and for some reason even most of the 'purists' want to claim otherwise there.

The desire to try to get closer to that everywhere is what is at the root of this.

Kyle isn’t a dumb man and has made a fortune, I’m sure he has investments that would keep the money coming in. You can only be so miserable for so long. I left a good paying job for a not so good paying job a few years ago… yeah I miss the paychecks but I’m a hell of a lot happier and look forward to going to work.

I agree 100%. But the more zeros on the check sometimes makes a person hang in there just a little bit longer. It is going to be interesting next year to see what teams hit the track running hard with the new car and which teams will struggle for a while.

Daytona and Talladega produce 85% of the pictures NASCAR will use in ads and that's part of the problem. Apparently the "casual" fan they try to appeal to wants to see cars flying through the air every week. NASCAR made a terrible decision to try and recreate this kind of racing at all tracks 1.5 miles or longer.
KDB is right, hopefully the racing will change dramatically next year.

I don't doubt that he can make money doing that. But I don't think he can make a fraction of what he makes in a cup car. There is a lot of overhead in operating a chassis shop vs just flying in and driving a cup car. Right now he can do both and make money at both. With the no practice or qualifying he doesn't have to dedicate near as much time away from home as he did pre covid..

Toyota has him propped up in the truck racing as it is.

Kyle was whining in the same interview about drivers having no respect anymore..it never gets old :laugh:

I'm still of the mindset its okay to have races that are not good.

That's apart of motorsports, some races are barn burners, some are not. I feel as if the spoiler should be reduced, if they want keep the tappered spacers and keep it at 550, its cool.

Many drivers I could imagine feel the same way.

What he said. Mr. Gnome has nailed it on the low horsepower/high drag/high downforce rules package. I'm not pre-disposed to agree with anything Kyle Busch says, but on this topic he is right.

What's funny is Kyle also complaining, in the same interview, that NASCAR racing is being ruined by the younger drivers not showing enough respect for the veteran drivers. Ha ha, Kyle, your first dozen years in cup racing, many of the veterans were whining about YOU not showing deference and yielding to THEIR desires. And now YOU have become the entitled veteran doing exactly the same thing. The entitled vets were wrong back then, and you are wrong now on the topic of younger drivers yielding to the established vets. But you're 100% correct on that silly NA18D stuff.

I mean Kyle is right even though he’s whining. You got Chase Elliott throwing it 3 wide at Nashville Superspeedway on lap 1.

The 550 package was cool at Charlotte in 2018 and was fine to change things around for the sake of competition and parity for 2019. But it’s a tiresome package of racing once Kansas hit back in late 2020 with Harvick and Logano not being able to do anything.
 
The problem is that the NASCAR supplied alternative was even worse. The current package is crappy, but it does often supply some excitement. Their low downforce package (which I supported) supplied long naps on the couch. I STILL think there is a low downforce package that could give us the best of best of both worlds, but it doesn't look like anybody is interested in even TRYING to figure it out.

yep the 2018 package was a snore fest. Nascar properly saw the whole thing going down the tubes if it continued.
