Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

I don't think you are trying to understand it... if you did, you wouldn't have posted such a misleading comment. Sure Chicago isn't in the top 10, but does that mean it's safe? No. And it's not racist, stupidity, ignorance or a bad joke.... it's reality.

I understand just fine, I live and work in the city daily. Like actually work in and around some rough areas. Is it dangerous, sometimes yes. Would I feel unsafe at a NASCAR race held in a touristy area in and around Grant Park like being proposed. Hell no. The Chicago Bears host 8 games a year just across the park, I dont see people getting shot at those games. Maybe they do I miss it, but I dont see it. Chicago Bulls I've been a season ticket holder for a few years....never seen someone get shot at the United Center. I guess what I am trying to say is, I dont see bullets flying at a sporting event like NASCAR but maybe I have the rose colored glasses on.

I once looked forward to Sonoma a lot, but it's been quite boring unfortunately the last several years. I'd be okay with them removing Sonoma

Well a couple of things... if you go back and look at my post, I never said that NASCAR shouldn't race in Chicago due to the crime I simply said that the PNW also had bad crime which the city of Portland does for example. Also, I guess I didn't know where the proposed street circuit would be... is it planned for racing around grant park and that touristy area?

On a side note, I travel to Chicago frequently as well. Bears, Cubs and Bulls are my teams.
 
It was so funny I was listening to the late shift last night and when the started discussing the possibility of a street course in Chicago Jeff Hammond immediately brought up concerns about keeping the fans safe while in town for the event......

Detroit doesn’t seem worried. Baltimore and Houston should have had fan safety as their only problems.
 
Yep, a lot of craziness happens within major metropolitian areas.

The ignorance is striking, Chicago is a great place to live. Great food, culture, always things to do, etc. The only thing that sucks about Chicago is the harsh winters.

Everyone thinks 63rd to 65th is every street in Chicago... Englewood and Chatnam is every street in Chicago to some folks, good God man.

Kansas is an ISC/NASCAR owned track, NASCAR wants to race Chicago streets... makes me think Road America stays and Kansas is the date lost for Chicago.

Trying to figure out how in the world Richmond still has 2 dates. One of 'em should've been axed 10 years ago.

I personally like Kansas, probably my favorite of the 1.5s.

I think one race would do wonders for ticket sales there, Richmond OTOH, like Pheonix has spent a lot of money on upgrades over the past few years. I doubt its going anywhere or losing a date.

saw that tweet last night, didnt want to post out of adding to the rumor mongering, BUT it does have the folks talking on social media. I think you are right about those areas, those not familiar with the area think all of Chicago is like that. It's not. But I wasnt clear if the tweet was about the speedway or the street race, thats why I didnt post seems like something got lost in translation.

Understood, but as someone who has stayed in Chicago many of times. It's a really awesome city, but the media potrayal makes it seem like its a warzone everywhere.

I wish NASCAR could get a race in Baltimore or Washington to replace a Richmond date.

IndyCar ran the streets of Baltimore without any safety issues. ALMS has run in Washington before, though I think that circuit has since become a park or something. Maybe they could do something really radical like race at Laurel Park or Pimlico.

Totally. I live here as you know and its not as bad as the outside media portray it. I've gone and hung out in the city my whole life and never felt unsafe. A street race would be just fine safety wise.

We're going to have little leaks like this until they release the schedule, its going to be frustrating. Little nuggets of information or misinformation, depending on your view.

I know its another road course, but for ISC to sacrifice Kansas to test the waters would be cool.

Maybe Chicagoland gets a second wind? Who knows? People have to show up and support though, I think NASCAR is not fooling around with moving the schedule around to test avenues. If Chicagoland gets the nod, I hope it is a success.

I cant see the market supporting both a street race and the oval...... I feel like its gonna have to be one or other.

Kansas was always said to be a tough removal because NASCAR/ISC got the license to build the casino in part because they promised the state two races a year. I don’t think it’s a bad track, but I’ll take splitting a date with Chicagoland if they can figure that out.

A few days ago Pockrass mentioned Meadowlands and New Orleans are also part of the street course evaluation. NO is new to that discussion, I think.

I recall either Indy or IMSA ran on the NO road course several years ago. I recall it rained buckets and whichever series never went back. Is that track still active, and in shape to support a major series?

It could possibly host Trucks and Xfinity, GTWC America raced there recently but even that was a replacement for the Ozarks track not being finished yet. Long way away from anything like Cup though.
 
I fully expect this race to be at a street circuit, Wilkesboro and in an NFL Stadium all within the next 5 years or so…I think the gloves are off if Fox is “talking to the league about that” and spearheading this. Get read to get weird!

Meadowlands is basically New York City. A market NASCAR has wanted to be in for years
