I recall only two Daytona Roval races. Wasn't the first in the middle of the COVID shutdowns, and the second the week immediately after the D500? If I could attend only one race over two weekends, I'd have gone with the Roval, but I believe most fans would spend their money on the marquee event.

You are correct. It will probably be the only time I could book a room directly across from the speedway for $79 per night. Best Daytona experience ever.

I have been watching street races since the mid 1980’s (IMSA, T/A, Indycar) and not one time have I EVER said “I want to see more of this”. If we have to throw street parties to con people into attending NASCAR races, let’s just concede that our product stinks and can’t stand on its own merit.

IMSA will be there as well, a GT event only.

Exciting, I think I have no military commitments in July either next FY... I think I know what I'm doing that weekend.:)
 
If they keep Road America and add Chicago street race, then I love it.

If they remove the best road course in North America for a boring street circuit, then I'll hate it.

I think we have an answer. I've said my peace on this race a few pages back and dont want to diminish the joy that others are having about a street race.....but the whole "we are taking a track date away because attendance is terrible" card that most like to play when discussing these types of things is now null and void. Road America did nothing but pack those fans in there the last two years.
 
I’m trying to think what track I would want removed, and honestly I just keep going back to I rather it be an exhibition race. Like, this is something brand new to the Cup series and everything. Try it out in a race that doesn’t really matter at first.
 
Okay, with another RC added and replacing another...

I guess it time for Indy to go back to the oval? Or alternate to keep the IndyCar double-header weekend? I enjoyed the Indy RC, but I'm curious to see these cars get on with the oval.

I wanna see the Brickyard 400 get its shot with the new car. We might get a preview of what it would look like with the race at Pocono this weekend.

Especially since Kansas and Richmond still keep their underperforming 2nd dates

I'm not enthusiastic about the Chicago Street course but I would prefer this one over a return to Chicagoland.
However, dropping Road America is just unacceptable to me. If NASCAR feels the need to take away a date from a road course it should be Indy IMO.

fair enough. I just prefer NASCAR to race on ovals, we have 1-2 many road courses as it is. I would like to see what the new car could do at Chicagoland or even on the Indianapolis oval. I think folks would like the racing.

I agree that racing at intermediates has been very good so far. But instead of adding another 1.5er I'd rather try to improve the racing at short tracks and road courses.
Returning to the IMS oval would be a good move, they could drop a race at Richmond instead.
 
There is nothing wrong with a Chicago street course race. In light of the success of street races in other series, NASCAR executives essentially have a fiduciary responsibility to attempt them. The reality is that like the Coliseum race, this will put NASCAR in front of eyes that would never otherwise see it.

However, the way Road America has been handled is not impressive. It does not inspire confidence in said executives, nor suggest that there is a coherent vision on the scheduling front, beyond "trying things". You don't market that you are establishing a new July 4 weekend "tradition", and then cut and run two years later when the event is well supported by its region. If the commitment was that shallow, it needed to be a lower profile event from day one.
 
We're losing Road America for the Chicago street course.










And we still go to Richmond 2x a year.... ya know, the track where the racing has been some of the worst on the calendar for 10+ years, where they can't keep up with tearing out seats, and the track is owned by NASCAR so any schedule changes should be easy unlike working with SMI.

They haven’t torn out any seats at Richmond in quite a few years, they’ve renovated the infield, the fall race had a great crowd, and the racing in the spring wasn’t too bad…….

The doom and gloom for Richmond around here......can we give it a little time to see how the new car works at some of these places before we do more schedule changes?
 
Drop a Texas race
Revert back to using the rectangle for Indy

That way, you keep the same amount of Road Course, stay at the Brickyard, and get rid of one of the worst races on the schedule all in one.

That's certainly part of it, along with the fan base that they're targeting.
