Deegan update

AM racing huh?

AirBox, Inc. and VIVA Tequila Seltzer to sponsor?

I see that 2023 was the first year in some time that AM racing ran an xfinity team. Is this a true top tier team?

This says it all for me:
"Deegan will remain in the Ford Performance camp, which she’s worked with as part of its developmental program since 2020.

“We are excited to see Hailie continuing to advance her career by running full-time with AM Racing in the Nascar Xfinity Series in 2024,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports."

AM Racing has an alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing, which operates its own two-car Xfinity Series team.

hmmm maybe stewart seeing deegans body of work in the SRX series pulled some strings....

It worked for Kyle Larson. Hell, it worked for Jimmie Johnson. Honestly, if she had signed with JGR or JRM, it would have been failing upward. In this case, I think it's no more than a parallel move, but more importantly it's a change of venue that MAY benefit her career.
I love how people think Jimmie Johnson sucked in the Busch series. He did win a race in a season where a dozen cup regulars were racing every week on cup series teams that had Busch programs. Johnson had way tougher competition and didn’t have the best equipment and still managed a win and several good runs. Deegan is severely underperforming. The two are not comparable.

As for the Larson thing, not even the same situation. He is a proven winner in everything he’s ever sat in. If he said that word with Deegan type results he’d still be full time dirt racing.

Yes, Johnson was OK in the Busch Series, but are you telling me ANYTHING he actually did there justified the ride he got? He was hired on potential and a good personality and not much more. I watched every single race he ran praying that he could do well enough to ever even get a SHOT at a Cup car. The win came AFTER he was signed to HMS. Larson may have been a proven winner, but he got fired from a B level team and hired by THE team. Obviously his talent wasn't enough for Chip to go to bat for him, or his sponsors to ride out the flak and bring him back.

3) Look at the bright side. If this doesn't work, her NASCAR career is likely over.

I disagree.

I think she'll be in a SHR Cup car no matter what within the next few years.

Ford Performance has invested too much in her to turn back now. They're all in.

You aren’t able to review the team’s “performance” statistics and decide for yourself?

I can, but I know Andrew has been following this situation even closer than I

I like it, as to me, This is what DP10 should have done - got more Xfinity races in before cup.

Sigh - thanks for weighing in, but I REALLY hope if she bombs in Xfinity there would be no cup.

There comes a breaking point for everyone. I doubt the investment has been big enough that you don't cut your losses at some point and move on if she can't at least be a regular top 15 driver in Xfinity.

And there SHOULDN'T be, but if it happens, who do you blame? Her from taking what is offered, or Ford for being dumb enough to offer it?

Today's announcement I think tells us Hailie Deegan is guaranteed a Cup ride, no matter what.
With the new Cup car, if that were expressly the goal, leaving her in the Trucks would have been a MUCH better path. I think they are just trying to find a place where she can fit and produce SOME kind of decent results.

I like that Deegan is getting plenty of seasoning in the lower ranks. Patrick didn't have that & it showed. Deegan could contend for top 5's in Xfinity. Having experience in those series is huge for her development.

wauit you feel trucks are a better preparation than Xfin for cup? o_O

They are. Xfinity drives way less like a cup car than a Truck does. Many drivers have said that. It’s why drivers coming from Xfinity like Harrison Burton and Austin Cindric have struggled mightily, while drivers like Carson Hocevar and Zane Smith have impressed in their cup starts.

The disparity between good teams and bad teams is so much greater in Xfinity that her results, on paper, will improve in Xfinity. That puts the talking points for moving her to Cup in her favor.

Sure, moving Smith and Hocevar straight to Cup may work. But they were also frontrunners. With Deegan, we're talking about a 20th place driver.
