Silly Season 2024

It’s weird how people don’t want drivers with character and then whine and complain when someone like Matty D does and they tell him to get out of the sport. I don’t think he’ll be back with the way people are ok with PC sponsors.
Yeah Matty is a victim now.

Not all character is good character.

I notice the phrase 'drivers with character' is often used to excuse actions repeatedly taken without thought to the effects on one's career.

They tend to be the same people who can't figure put why people like Chase Elliott.

Timothy Peters never ran at the level Matty D did (show me the stats) and I’m not sure Ty Dillon will make the playoffs or not. You can hate him for spewing politics or not attracting sponsors, but he’s a Cup level talent.
I never saw it, he was a middle of the field 14-16 the playoffs guy in a good year. That 21 team he pointed his way to the playoffs was just coming off back to back appearances with and if memory serves me correct a bunch of those guys were still with the team even when Blaney went to the 12. I didn’t say he’s not a Cup level talent but he’s just a guy, not someone the fans needed this vehemently defend. Frankly when you’re making the playoffs at 14-16 range, they’re all interchangeable at that point…kudos to making it and having a good season, but you’re just kind of there. That’s Matt in my view

It's not about what Joe Chud who just wasted a magazine firing it into a case of Bud Light wants.

It's about what sponsors want.

Jimmie Johnson raced for the best team and had the best crew in the Nascar Cup series for years. That crash at Pocono was a game changer. Not only has age and accidents taken their toll, he doesn't have that caliber of a support system under him anymore. The new car is the hardest to drive in decades and Johnson has little seat time and what he had he looked like a fish out of water. Jimmie has a whole lot of things working against him IMO. I'm a Jimmy Johnson fan jus sayin, but I don't think this is going to end well.
Plus he lost the best cheater.
Nope nope. Chase is boring and bland. Lots of informed NASCAR fans in my circle think so.
I have the same opinion.

I notice it's used in relation to whether you agree with a person's point of view or not. Agree with them, good character. Disagree with them, dirtbag.

It's been tough around here. I've been ducking these things left an right. They are everywhere.

I know everyone was wondering when would Cody Ware be back...

Who was it that was doubting me about Cup driver salaries now being drastically low awhile back?

Kyle Larson:
"For a driver contract, from 2015 to where it is now, it’s probably half, even for the top drivers.”
“I bet you the top 4 drivers in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series are making more money than a third to half of the Cup Series guys. Probably half of the Cup Series guys. That’s pretty crazy to think about."

With dirt racing, Larson commands a huge following and gets to keep the entirety of his merchandising sales as opposed to NASCAR where the team and sanctioning body gets a cut.

Both Sprint Cars and Late Models have raced for a million dollars to win at Eldora Speedway over the past two years. Most driver deals in dirt call for half of the earnings and the entirety of their merchandise sales and personal endorsement deals.

This sounds like Kyle is comparing total income from all sources, not solely from the contract with the team for driving services. I don't intend that sentence as a criticism or a denial, just a clarification.

It does make me wonder why Kyle runs NASCAR when he a) likes dirt better, and b) can make a comfortable living at it.

A number of top dirt car drivers have said besides Kyle Larson that fans and press continue to say this driver or that driver is good enough to go to Nascar. Drivers like Tanner Thorson, T-Mez or Justin Grant aren't going anywhere and they continue to say so. IMO Larson was letting Nascar fans know that a decent driver can make good bank in a dirt car.

DiBenedetto is a Cup level driver but he's not good enough for the baggage he brings. After 2021, he should have invested in an agent and PR person. If he has either of those things now, he needs to replace them.

I dunno. Matt’s stats are really good for a driver that everyone hates. Lol.

Few here disagree regarding his on-track abilities. It's off the track where he jams his foot deep enough in his mouth to pass toenail clippings.

I don’t pay to watch PC garbage. I pay to watch wall rides, I pay to watch drivers like Gragson pissed off, I pay to watch drivers like Newman, DiBennedetto outperforming the equipment.

Matt provides entertainment value that’s sorely lacking sometimes lol.

When he almost won in a Leavine Family Racing car, I knew he had something. Surely almost doing it at Bristol.

It's not politics.

WBR and Penske gave Matt over a year's notice that he was out of the 21 at the end of 2021. He had plenty of time to lineup sponsors and try to get a new ride. He knew he had no funding so finding backers was imperative. What did Matt do? Publicly beg to keep his ride at WBR, thought he was entitled to stay in the 21 once it was clearCindric was going to the 2 (Cindric was originally slated for the 21). He also alienated his Reddit fanbase by telling them not to call him DiBurrito, which while it seems silly on its face, was actually a good example of him alienating fans, which doesn't look good for sponsors.

He also does these bizarre "updates," which is a sign that he has no idea how to be a public figure.

The only political thing is his association with Benny Johnson at Phoenix when he said "Let's Go Brandon" while wearing his firesuit without clearing it with his sponsors. There are many openly right wing figures in NASCAR. No one gives a **** what Matt believes. People do give a **** when you do things like that without communicating with your team and sponsor. It shows poor communication skills.

Matt likes to play the "woe is me" victim but his predicament is his own fault. There are lesser talents who have been able to find enough funding to keep themselves on the track. Staying in Cup might have been difficult for Matt in 2022 but he could've lined up enough money to at least get a part time schedule in a good Xfinity ride and set himself up for 2023.

Don't fall for Matt's "I've been politically persecuted" bull****. Matt doesn't have a ride because Matt is a ****** idiot.
