Plane Crash in Statesville NC

Jack Roush has 2, Ted Christopher and Mike Stefanik from the modifieds. I agree it seems like a lot, though I think statistically its because like you said they fly a lot.

They also fly distances that most people would drive. Dale Jr’s deal happened when he was preparing to go to Bristol and the Hendrick crash happened flying to Martinsville. Bristol and Martinsville are 3 and 2 hours by car from Charlotte respectively. I would feel safer in a car than a private plane.

In most sports, athletes fly via a chartered commercial flight, which is WAY safer than a small private plane. I saw a study once that said that commercial flights were 200x safer than those taken on a small private plane.

Just to throw this out there, the Pilot Debrief show on Youtube has a video out covering the flight profile of the Biffle plane. Being the professional he is, Hoover draws no conclusions yet, but it seems apparent that that plane was in some kind of serious trouble almost from the moment the wheels left the runway. Altitude and airspeed were all over the place.

Sadly, private planes do have failures in either equipment or occasionally pilot error. It is a risk all pilots face. I think about Chase Elliott who flies his own twin engine plane to most races, and others who are certified. Greg was an excellent pilot who suffered a major aircraft failure on his last flight. Takeoff is the highest risk point of any flight, as there is less opportunity to manage an issue with low altitude. So tragic….
This is true. We hear more of smaller aircraft crashing than we do the large jets. I'm not a big fan of flying. I have often thought how convenient it would be if I could fly to places on a private plane. But those are much riskier. I don't know if I'd want to get on one now.

I went to the Indy 500 one year in a small private plane. You have no idea what the air controller traffic was like. They had 600 planes leaving at the same time. The air traffic controller sounded like an auctioneer. We followed a jet plane in our little air craft. It was beating us to deaf. We got the clear to go when my husband (pilot) told the controller... negative, we needed some distance between us and the jet. Good thing, no matter how busy it is, the pilot has the last say.

Yep. Exactly why I don't fly. Plus i'm poor.

I was lucky enough to see the Biff win that Truck race at Texas in the KBM #51. One of my favorite memories. He still had it. He had many more wins in him after Roush if he’d gotten another opportunity in a good car. I always appreciated his amazing talent. Gasman in every since of the word.

It was amazing to see his second act as a humanitarian and everything he did to help Appalachia and the Carolinas after Helene. Not to mention the stories coming out the last couple of days of fan interactions and him being one of the few who always made time for everybody. Just a humble and honest gentleman racer. This really really ****** sucks that he and his family are no longer with us.

I woke up this morning with a big knot in my stomach as soon as I remembered the accident yesterday. It's clear that each new day is going to bring a lot of pain to many people over the loss of "Da Biff" and his loved ones and friends for a long time.

May God stay close to the heartbroken.

Here is the first NTSB briefing on the crash.

The first thing that came to mind for me was Kobe Bryant. Sports figures and especially racers also like to fly their own planes while commericial pilots do this day in and day out and have large technical support systems to help and back them up. Even many charter pilots don't get the opportunity to log high hours that a pilot for say Delta or American Airlines does.

Another category in the same boat are musical performers, because they have to travel so often for performances, just like racers do. Lynryd Sknryd, Rick Nelson, Buddy Holly, and Patsy Cline for example.

When it comes to people flying themselves, I also think about JFK Jr. Another one we lost way too soon.

A lot of new information in this first video. There's probably going to be a ton of this stuff over the next few days and weeks.

Also, a new update and pics from NTSB in 2nd and 3rd videos.

The 3 guys below are all well respected former NTSB investigators. They have some new insights into the investigation.

A lot of youtube pilot shows and opinions out there. This guy may be right.
