We can debate this playoff nonsense until we are blue in the face. Nobody can convince me that who ever owns NBC this week isn't involved in the playoff nonsense process along with Nascar. Whoever came up with the playoff excuse are for the children viewers needs their heads examined. F-1 isn't doing flip flops with their points system, they have plenty of younger fans, and we Nascar fans have had 20 years of this nonsense in one form or another and they don't have the numbers. That should be their sign.
Pretty sure there won't be a peep out of the top 3 or 4 teams who manage to have their cars in the playoffs every year also.

My money’s on this sadly. I also would bet, NASCAR’s tv overlords demand some type of playoff as well as nascar honchos can’t admit failure in going back to a full season championship. Points resets with 3/4 of the season done just get everyone’s competitive juices flowing

I'd take the 2004 format over this silliness. But USA Sports wants this playoff elimination drama.

I’d honestly love that point system. Maybe double the points though and go to 18 due to the bigger field? 50-36-30-25-24-20-16-12-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

Until I tried to explain the current system to my wife did I realize how silly it was.

- So that guy won a race so he's in the playoffs but he's 30th in points.......yup
- So the guy that won the final, winner take all race didn't win the championship even though he was in the playoffs.....yup
- So the guy that won the didn't get the most points because someone else ran better than them until the end of the race.....yup
- So the non-playoff drivers that are in the same race as the playoff drivers can essentially take away points from playoff drivers....yup
