Bristol Pre-race Race Thread

Let's see what this new car does on the high banked short track of Bristol. That Gyro-Cam is really going to get a workout this week. Time to break out the Dramamine®.

  • Practices:
    Friday, March 15, 12:00 - 1:30 pm/et, TV-SPEED
    Saturday, March 16, 9:00 - 10:00 am/et, TV-SPEED
  • Happy Hour 'Final' practice: Saturday, March 16, 12:00 - 1:00pm/et, TV-SPEED
  • Qualifying: 2 laps for positions 1-2, Friday, March 15 at 3:40 pm/et, TV-SPEED, re-air scheduled at 10:30pm/et and 12:30am/et.

Track Specifications:
  • 0.533-mile concrete oval
  • 500 laps, 266.5 miles
  • Degree of banking in corners: 24 to 30 degrees
  • Degree of banking in straights: 4 to 9 degrees
  • Straightaways: 650 feet long.
  • Concrete racing surface: 43 feet wide.
  • Seating capacity: 160,000
  • Bristol has two pits roads: 22 pit stalls on the front stretch and 21 on the back stretch
  • Pit Stall Size: 25.5 feet long, 15.5 feet wide
  • Pit Road Speed: 30 mph
  • Pace Car Track Speed: 35mph
  • Track Opened: 1960
  • First Cup race: 1961

we didn't all drink the same beer

like TV stations before cable, there were always at least 3 or 4 different ones to choose from . . .

I don't know about the tires, but that will certainly increase the squealing. I'm just not sure if it will be his body hangers or his competitors'.

I know I'm in the minority, but I prefer the new Bristol. I went a half dozen times before the major overhaul, and twice since. I like having more green flag racing and fewer yellow flag parade laps. I like getting out of there before midnight in August. There are still wrecks enough to satisfy my inner Neanderthal, and more side-by-side racing than before.

Just this idjit's opinion.
 
I used to hate the short tracks because of all the yellows. Passing was shoving a car out of the way. But now I like the short tracks especially since they gave Bristol 2 racing grooves.

Schlitz, falstaff and PBR were the top 3 in the fifties and sixties in our area and we also had a local brewery, Spearmans that was popular in the south east, also Dixie made in New Orleans that was popular.
 
I just dont get too excited about any short track especially Bristol since they re did the track. Martinsville is a total waste though and I have no idea why cup races there.
 
Bristol was reconfigured again before the August night race. It was supposed to bring it back to a one groove track, with the bottom groove being the fastest again. We went to that race. The top was supposed to be too slick to work. Took about 40 laps or so, but you could see the cars working their way up there. By lap 100 the top was the working line. Denny was the car that seemed to be able to pass both high and low. Should be interesting to see how this race goes.

I get excited about all the races . Nothin beats a Nascar race in my book . I really don't get fans who can say they don't like some tracks but they do like others . It's all just Nascar racin to me , the difference of each track makes it so much better.

I understand what you mean but I also can understand why people prefer some tracks to others. But some people are malcontents and will never be pleased with anything.
 
I am looking forwards to this race, hoping to see the Gen 6 cars get bumped and scraped out on track!
I tend to prefer most short tracks over some of the longer tracks purely because it can get up close and personal, which is always a buzz to watch!

Local in NJ, NY and PA, Ballentine, Neuweiler, Iron City, Genesee, Rolling Rock and Rheingold. Did any ever know of the Rheingold Girls? And living in Texas in the late 1950's, Lone Star and Shiner.
