Tony Stewart running over someone?

I think he was trying to avoid him...but he couldn't. I hope someone has a better video that will clear this up. Even the car in front of Tony had to swerve to keep from hitting the kid.

Me too. From what I understand about Sprint cars (and that's very little) you turn left by JUMPING on the gas. I think Tony saw the kid at the last second and tried to get the car to move down instead of stopping and risk stalling. Poor decisions by both parties.

Oh please. At that speed all he had to do was turn his steering wheel to turn the car.

I think it was typical road rage Tony but this time with tragic results.

Damn, and I thought I've been having a rough couple weeks of being sick not knowing why only to end up having oral surgery and I wake up to this!!!!
For goodness sakes, when does the craziness end and real life begin again?????

1) There was no reason for the kid to get out of his car and (much, much worse) walk down close to the path of cars going way too fast for pedestrian traffic.

2) There was no reason for Tony Stewart to gun the engine.

When idiots collide, bad things happen, and one idiot is dead.

Spare me the rage that I have no respect for the dead. If he had more respect for sprint cars, he'd be alive to tell his future grandkids racing stories.

As for Smoke, if he really was attempting to throw dirt, he'll get another shot to throw more dirt on him in a few days.

NASCAR has been celebrating drivers walking on the track and gesturing, confronting, punching, throwing helmets and fans (and young drivers) eat it up.
You reap what you sow.

That's exactly why he hit the gas. Dude would've never been out of his car if it didn't involve Tony Stewart. Tragic string of events, but my prayers for Stewart to have to put up with all these "expert" opinions.

Darwinism?????

Did you post in the wrong thread?

"Darwinisn" is a term used to describe people dying after doing something ridiculously foolish.

They even give out awards for it.

Tony gets one too though.

EDIT: well, Tony isn't dead so he doesn't qualify.....still idiotic though.

Video doesn't show the turn, but he may have been coming out of the turn, and perhaps from Tony's perspective Ward was camouflaged by the car in the background. Tony probably never expected the guy to get out of the car so quickly, and his reflexes took over when he did. Tragic for sure. I'm not going to trash a deceased 17 year old for making a fatal mistake.

OK, thanks. Never heard the term used that way.

Matt, a 17 year old kid making a fatal mistake deserves better than that.

I hope Tony did have a go-pro video of the incident. Seeing exactly what Tony saw is the only way to clear things up.

I have no doubt in my mind that Tony would never intentionally hit another person with a vehicle on purpose, those are games pros would never play. My prayer go out to all involved, there can never be a good ending when something this tragic happens without intent or cause. Freak accident and stranger than fiction.

Not really. His moronic a actions caused a huge s**t storm. He was obviously too immature to handle racing at that level.

Your moronic comments show a total lack of evolution. The only other thing that could explain your comments about Ward is that at least one Chimp has learned to type.

I came on this morning to read all the moaning about cup drivers in NWS and see this. Wow.

I don't care to watch that video as I know what pain and suffering look like.

Just heard the news, very sad. It sounds like an unfortunate accident to me.
Decisions made with tragic consequences

I can't believe (if reports are true) that Stewart is actually planning to race today.

I......mean......speechless

If he does race today, they will have to create an entirely new idiot award and call it the Smoke Trophy.

NASCAR isn't stupid enough to let him get in the car are they?

Speechless. Tony should be smarter than that. If he can't make the right decision, NASCAR needs to step in.

I am a bit disappointed we haven't heard from Tony directly, rather than comments by his PR team. Hell, they don't even offer a quote from Tony.

"Tony Stewart will race as scheduled at Watkins Glen. "We're business as usual today," said Greg Zipadelli, Stewart-Haas Racing vice president of competition."

"Everything that's been made available to us at this time would not preclude (Stewart) from participating in this event here today," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said.
He said NASCAR has been monitoring the situation and will "honor the process and respect the timeline of the local authorities."

There is a news conference scheduled. I am trying to find the specifics.
