Tony Stewart running over someone?

I pray for the family... I'm still at work, but later on I will have a full opinion. Right now, if I was Stewart. I would prepare for the worst because this will not only obliterate his name and credibility. Bass Pro, Mobil, BK, and all of his sponsors WILL leave.

For the family, all I can do is pray for solace. To bury your son... It's unjustifiable... What a shame. This could have been avoided on both parts... I'll get into that later, I have to go bck to work...

Because the didnt see any video yet, explains why they are asking this

The Ontario Co. Sheriff’s office requests anyone that has amateur video of Stewart incident contact the dept.
I would bet my last dollar that they have seen the same video we are watching. But, they are probably looking for more videos that shows different angles of the incident.

It will be interesting to see how tight lipped both the espn broadcast and nascar big wigs may be tomorrow.
They have to be pretty tight lipped until the investigation is done and the facts are in which may take a few days or even weeks.

But both NASCAR and ESPN have no problem showing a graphic video of a guy literally getting ragdolled to death. I don't get it.

Sad story. Just got home from shooting pool. A series of tragic events happened.
Not sure what happened or why. I guess I'll comment further when I see video.
Don't know why someone would get out of their car on a racing surface.

I always was a fan

You'll regret seeing the video.

They can show a video of the real incident...but they can't really say much until they know all the facts.

Wow! I just saw the video. Looked to me like someone was out walking where I would not have been.
The angle was terrible but it did not look intentional on Stewarts part.
Wow. Just. Wow.
I'm surprised the white car didn't hit him.

Really wish I could see Stewart's GoPro video before making any more opinions. But at the end of the day, the only guy who knows what happened in the ****pit of that sprint car is the one who has to live with it.

I think the gopro would really clear things up... I have to imagine LEO has seen it by now..

Did Stewart gun it, as witnesses are being reported as saying, or was that sound an effect of having a human body get sucked into the wheel?

People are saying Stewart turned into him. But it looks to me like the car only turned right after he got sucked in the wheel.

Incredibly tragic. The guy placed himself in harms way by going out into traffic. I can't see how this is Tony's fault.
Nobody will ever convince me that Tony aimed for a driver, out of his vehicle on a racing surface.

I'm not even convinced the engine rev was his car tbh...

Who TF expects someone to step into the path of a race vehicle?
Absolutely absurd for anyone to speculate that this was intentional.

Without a better video angle it's hard to tell what happened. The kid could have stepped forward to cuss out Stewart and slipped, leg gets caught by the wheel and that's that.

But that video is what everybody is gonna see. Hopefully there are other angles, but probably not a good one from the side or back that could really clear up what happened.

You're over thinking the "sucked into the wheel" thing.

The tire is rolling forward, the tread on the front is moving downward. Ward's feet probably got ran over, his body was pulled down and launched out of the back of the tire. Sprint cars have like 700-900 hp. That's what they mean by "sucked into the tire".

Nascar fans are something else. A terrible accident and everyone comes out of the woodwork with videos to prove how awful someone is.

I don't think Stewart intended to hit him but I see two possibilities:

1 - Stewart gunned the engine as he went past to try to intimidate Ward, the back end kicked out ("because sprint car") and accidentally hit Ward.
2 - Stewart gunned the engine as he went past because sprint cars are like jet skis or boats and don't turn real good unless they have throttle ("because sprint car"), trying to miss Ward and accidentally hit Ward.

This isn't the time or place for "probablies."
I was just trying to explain what "sucked into the tire" means since I think most people who have driven cars/motorcycles/ATVs may be able to grasp the concept.

Unbelievable.
Almost surreal.

I'm glad I don't drive much on Sundays because I don't know if I would want to drive with a Tony Stewart hitch cover or not.
I'll wait to see how this plays out.
It's hard - for me - to tell exactly what happened prior to impact as far as Tony hitting the gas and fishtailing.

I do agree that it wasn't smart for Ward to get out of his car.
But we see it all the time.
Like Yeley did with Bayne today.

This sucks.

So your position was that it was intentional on Stewart's part or an accident?
I never knew that dirt sprint cars and jet skis shared similarities.
Have you been drinking?

Right. And the news reports going around include an eyewitness saying it was #1. That person has no idea, of course, but that is what's been in every article I've seen.

Or was Stewart swerving back and forth, on & off the gas cleaning the grooves under caution?
It doesn't always have to be sinister.

You're really a peach, you know that?

Stewart has a temper, everybody knows this. You think it's totally impossible that he would try to intimidate the kid by dropping the throttle as he went by?

And as a matter of fact, read a ****** book. Sprint cars don't turn real well unless throttle is being applied.

Never been called a peach before. Guess that's a Midwest metaphor.
I'm sure a book will enlighten me on your confusion. Thanks for the suggestion.

Unreal... I wake up to this wondering if it's a dream, I wish it was. As much as we enjoy drivers showing emotion this is a horror story. This is the end of an era in racing. Can't help but wonder if Tony is ever racing or owning a team again.

You know what, I really want to say something but you and your buddies will just go crying to TRL and get me banned, so it's not even worth it.

My interpretation, after watching the video and reading the eyewitness accounts, is that the rear wheel jumped out on Stewart and pegged Ward. I'm sorry, I'm not going to blame the dead teenager because I have a massive hard-on for Tony Stewart.

He looked like he was going at a pretty solid clip.

No one is saying he tried to murder the guy but going that fast near him seemed pretty reckless. That's not to say running towards the racing groove is brilliant - both parties made mistakes, imo.

NASCAR needs to adopt a rule that bans people from walking onto the track for ANY reason from green to checkered. When you wreck, you can walk from car to ambulance and that's it.

Any other move and you're suspended.
I'm kinda surprised it didn't happen after the jet dryer incident at Daytona a couple of years ago. A broken truck arm and someone waiting to flip off another driver is dead.

PR disaster for NASCAR.
I agree, but just browsing here and /r/NASCAR, people who seem to be coming into this late (and this isn't a passive aggressive slight on Bobby or anybody else) seem to be of the opinion that Ward ran into the path of Stewart. Whereas people who stayed up and followed the news as it happened seem to be more inclined to believe that Ward tried to get out of the way at the last minute and Stewart hit him regardless. Maybe something to do with the earlier headlines or something. I actually think, reading some of the later opinions coming in on this now, there is a chance Stewart may race tomorrow because it seems like public opinion is shifting towards Stewart.

But, like you said, it's crappy all around, no matter what you think happened.

@KevinWI and @BobbyFord - easy, fellas. I know I'm not the boss, and I know everybody's amped up for obvious reasons, but this is really not the time for us to be at each other's throats.

I just got done reading this whole thread and I am in total shock. I can't believe this just happened - and I can't believe Tony is actually planning to race later today. How in the world do you get back behind the wheel of a race car not even 24 hours after you run someone over with one (not saying he did it on purpose)? Unreal.

R.I.P. Kevin Ward.
