I try to stay away from downtown but may have to check it out.

This is our new race itinerary since adding the Coke Zero 400 to Pocono and Michigan. Over 4600 miles, over 68 hours of actual driving time and we'll be gone 5 1/2 weeks. I hope I survive pulling the beast over and through all of those mountains.

It sounds like you are going to have a blast...have a safe and fun travel my friend. I'm leaving Fri for about a month on the road also. The hauler is loaded and i'm leaving California Fri evening for Gainesville Fl and then up to Charlotte NC before heading back to California to reload parts for Las Vegas.

Will do. We always have a good time thanks. Take care, that's a looong trip.
If you see an old man mooning ya out of the back of a 2014 silver Ram 1500 quad cab on I-10 around exit 7 in Florida, that'll be me. :D

Third-generation Allison to begin his stock car career:Robbie Allison will get his first experience in full-body stock cars in 2015, and he'll be leaning heavily on the advice of his racing coach and grandfather - 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Allison. The 23-year-old third-generation driver is the son of the late NASCAR star Davey Allison, who was killed in a helicopter crash in 1993. As a child, Robbie began racing in the typical junior divisions where tomorrow's racing stars cut their teeth.

I want to ask this but don't want to make a separate thread for it:

Does anyone know if the Southern 500 will be a night race this year? Thinking of making a trip to the South for the race but am wary of watching a race in the heat of the day on Labor Day weekend in South Carolina.

Yep, its a nice race.

So it's not just me? I'll be going, but I don't get the appeal of sitting in the heat at Labor Day. Even at night, it is going to be hotter than a Mothers' Day afternoon.

May had a couple other advantages over September. Over the years I talked to several people in the stands who traveled from outside the southeast. They'd watch the Darlington race, spend the next several days in the region (Myrtle Beach, Charleston, or Charlotte), then catch the All Star race the following weekend. Scenery wise, a lot of the spring-flowering plants are still in bloom. You're not competing with as much traffic or for hotel space; more people are traveling on Labor Day to jam in that last summer weekend than Mothers' Day.

Screw that 'tradition' nonsense. If the calendar was being filled completely from scratch, no one in the southeast would pick a date between June and September. Those are air conditioner months. They had a better date and were filling the seats. Labor Day beats no race at all, but that's about all it's better than..

I ran across this video -- I'd never seen it before. Smoke taking DW for a 'ride' around Eldora. If it's old for some of you,
give me a pass on account of age. :D

Made me laugh....hearing DW cuss...smoke really enjoys dirt racin'. Heres to hoping he gets back at it

It concerns Tony Stewart so I posted it here. I hope it was as simple as stated and not internal as to get our credit card numbers and other info.

  • Eldora Speedway's website hacked: The website of a dirt track owned by NASCAR driver Tony Stewart was hacked Saturday, and a message on the site credits the Islamic State. The message was on the webpage for Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio less than half an hour before it was removed by Eldora officials. Track general manager Roger Slack said authorities had not confirmed that the incident involved an actual message from the Islamic radical group. Slack said officials investigating the incident told him that the hacking apparently impacted several websites based in the Cincinnati-Dayton, Ohio area, including two well-known restaurants.(USA Today)(3-8-2015)

You should have heard them back in the day when Ethel spun out in final practice @ Langhorn Speedway. She slid down the track collecting Curtis Turner. Curtis had to run to the local Oldsmobile dealer for a brand new 49' Olds. He was relegated to start at the rear of the field and fought his was back up finishing first. The telegraph service was going wild that day with calls for her to be removed from the sport because she was unable to compete with the big boys. I had to look all this information up. Perhaps @Johali could fill us in with his first hand knowledge.
